Absolutely spectacular hotel at the Bund & right in the centre of Shanghai. Beautiful place - amazing halls, big and comfortable rooms that leave no wish open (the bathroom is fantastic), excellent breakfast & very good restaurants. And don't miss the jazz bar !!!! The staff is just amazing - very helpful & always smiling. The location can't be better...

This is not just a place to spend a night, but a travel experience all on its own. It is located on choice Shanghai real estate on the north end of the Bund with a view of the Pudong skyline from river-facing rooms. I received an upgrade from a Fairmont Room (their basic level) to a deluxe room facing Nanjing...

An 'institution' in Shanghai that now fails to live up to its reputation: the afternoon tea was disappointing as it was dry and sparse. The Jazz band finished an hour too early. The service was slow and mostly indifferent. The price is still at London levels, but like so many things it lacks the quality, detail and polish of a...

Dear C R, On behalf of our entire team I would like to sincerely apologize for not living up to our well established reputation. We were here to celebrate our anniversary and were greeted with such warm welcome. We were delighted to arrive to chocolates and macaron in the room! The front staff walked us to the room and were nice enough to introduce the hotel to us. The following night, Calara, Chelsea, and the guest relations team even specially brought up an anniversary...

Lovely room, bathroom amazing, amazingly clean through out. Great restaurant food, jazz band on site in bar - how ever was difficult to get in as was busy! Right on the Nanjing Road - no better place for shopping and a stones throw from the Bund. They didnt like us taking photos inside of the decor for some reason but...

This hotel is at the top of its game. it's authentically an historic hotel, NOT like other luxury hotels which are put into buildings built originally for other reasons. The rooms, even the modest 'standard' are spacious and well thought out, quiet and comfortable. The spa and pool facilities are some of the best I've seen...the pool especially is sparkling clean...

The location is perfect, the staff attentive and polite. The standard room could be bigger but then - it was comfortably enough:) the jazz bar being there on the spot adds to the overall comfort of stay. one complaint - no free internet! Seriously? At a 5* hotel?! That really came as a surprise!

Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
