The Grand Hyatt Shanghai presents a mixed bag of experiences according to guest reviews. While the central location and stunning views stand out as highlights, garnering appreciation for their convenience and beauty, guests have called out issues with service inconsistency and maintenance. Rooms are generally seen as clean and comfortable, yet some travelers report outdated decor and neglect.
The value proposition of the hotel often comes under fire, with visitors pointing out unexpected charges and underwhelming dining options. Despite these criticisms, the atmosphere is often described as welcoming, with a homely vibe.

Detailed Reviews
A compliment for the staff, be it taking care of my extra luggage, the check-in, the restaurant or the concierge helping with the taxi booking and online payment, they all gave me the feeling they cared about my stay. The location of the hotel is convenient and you get great views from the high floors. My room upgrade to a suite was a nice touch, unfortunately when on a tight business travel schedule, you don't get to enjoy it that much. Dinner in the Japanese restaurant Kobachi was of good quality and again the staff was doing their job well. The only slightly negative comment I have is about the evening coffees and tea we had a the Patio, where there were some communication issues and the seemingly limited availability of teas.

I stayed two days in Grand Hyatt Shanghai (金茂君悦酒店)to unwind and take care some business after two weeks quarantine flying from SF to Shanghai. Grand Hyatt is my goto place in Shanghai stayed there every time visiting, it is one of the first skyscrapers in Shanghai, offers most central location in Pudong, best view and most all around services with reasonable prices. Newer skyscrapers like Shanghai tower is barely open for business and Park Hyatt is much more pricier. The staff is as friendly as can be during pandemic, while following the safety rules. I never felt being monitored or restricted during stay free to visit restaurant, bar, gym and shopping centers as long as you carry quarantine proof and PCR report w you. I enjoyed the gym, spa and highly recommend Patio cafe on 56th floor with live music and fantastic view of the golden atrium. For people have been under lockdown for over a year, this is quite a luxury and enjoyment. I also would like to praise Gustav who went out of the way to arrange my trip to my hometown Hangzhou. He used his own app to reserve ride for me and even paid in advance for my trip. Always enjoyable stay and hope to come back soon!

A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a short stay at the GH in Shanghai as a family. It was one of my husband’s favorites for business travel and at the time, it was the highest hotel in the world.
While no longer the highest, it is still very impressive, occupying the higher floors of the jinmao tower in Shanghai.
As a globalist, we were upgraded to a large suite on the 84th floor (highest floor is 85). Our son’s rollaway bed was in the living room and he was afforded the best view in the house, particularly during the light show. The room finishes are a bit dated but it was extremely well maintained with a super comfy bed (my highest priority!)
The service in the lounge was fabulous. My son found a new love for xiao long bao and the sous chef was personally delivering them to him! The chicken satay and other dishes were also delicious. We made dinner of it and enjoyed the light show from the lounge.
Breakfast was also great in the lounge and they even allowed us to stay after check out and grab a few things to eat as we had a late flight to HK. Seriously great service all the way through.
We really liked swimming in the pool on the 57th floor too. What a view. Highly recommend this property and would no doubt stay here again if we had a return visit to Shanghai!

Four nights on a business trip in this establishment.
The hotel is characterized by its spectacular location in the Jin Mao Tower, which was the tallest building in China for a while. The rooms are located above the 54th floor and offer a truly impressive view of Shanghai with floor-to-ceiling windows.
However, the interior of the Grand Hyatt probably dates back to the year the Jin Mao Tower was completed, which Wikipedia states as 1998. Despite being in excellent condition, the entire decor no longer seems contemporary at all. In my opinion, the hotel urgently needs to be completely renovated and completely refurbished in order to continue to live up to its own claim as a five-star luxury accommodation.
My room on the 65th floor was extremely spacious and furnished with a very comfortable wide bed with good pillows, separate seating and desk. Spacious wardrobe that is accessible from both the room and the bathroom - a very practical solution. Things like kettles and irons have been thought of. Bottles of drinking water are available in sufficient numbers.
The bathroom is also very spacious with a bathtub and separate shower as well as a slightly separated toilet. I was impressed by the numerous storage options at the sink. Pleasantly fluffy towels.
Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the breakfast. It is served in a poorly structured, uncomfortable area on the 56th floor, where there is a constant high level of noise. Tables and chairs show clear signs of wear, the paper placemats on the tables look cheap, dishes and cutlery are of very basic quality and have obviously been in use for a long time. The cleanliness could be better, especially the floor was not really clean when I visited. The range of food is extensive in both the "Western" and Chinese areas; however, the presentation is not very appealing to the European eye. Overall, I felt more like I was in a factory canteen than in the breakfast room of a luxury hotel.
The staff are very helpful, but (probably due to their rather limited English skills) they are not as active in approaching guests as you would expect in a 5-star hotel.

The hotel is located in the heart of Shanghai with many places of interest within walking distance on the sky walk without ever having cross any street. The hotel lobby is cosy and has a wonderful view over the city.
The rooms are spacious and well laid out. Bed is comfortable. The bathroom is huge. Lighting and curtains are all controlled by a panel on each side of the bed which makes things more convents. Electric outlets are for multi standards so, you will not have issues using them where-ever you come from. The rooms are also equipped with USB chargers. The free internet is fast and reliable.
We were impressed and happy.

I called two weeks in advance, letting them know that I would like a room with a great view, as it was important to me. I followed-up on the morning of, telling them I would be arriving later (6pm) and would like them to keep a room with a good view for me when I got there. So, when I got there, yes, there was a room with a nice view, but it smelled like a cigarette factory. I asked to be moved, and was, to a room with a less-quality view (but without the Marlboro Man as my roommate). So again, I asked to be moved, and this time was returned to another room with olfactory hues of tobacco. Truth is, I don't have time for trifle nonsense like this, but of course, it being China, they deflected responsibility, saying it was "busy", "summer", "excuse, excuse, excuse". That's why I called ahead. Twice.
It still remains the Grand Hyatt, and it still remains Shanghai, but it felt more like a Best Western in Times Square, with the hording of guests in and out, with little attention paid to what I expect from a 5-Star Hotel.

We stayed in the Pearl Tower room, and the views were unbeatable. Check-in was okay and required a security deposit of ¥1000. Even though the property is quite old, the interior shows no sign of wear and tear, only the room windows had visible dirt on the outside. The room had all your essentials and did have disposable toiletries; additional items can be requested. We didn't have any issues with the air conditioning or appliances within the room, as everything worked well.
The gym was my favorite facility with a good amount of equipment; pictures may depict it as being quite small, but it's actually spaced well with great views of Lujiazui. The pool, on the other hand, looked decent, but as most Chinese hotels require you to wear swimming caps,.
The buffet breakfast spread, although decent, wasn't anything special; recommend having it for a day or two, but nothing more. The location is on the high end of Shanghai, but you can find decently priced restaurants within basement food courts in the building as well as neighboring Financial Tower and Shanghai Tower. Metro is 15 minutes walk away, and so is the Huangpu River promenade. Would recommend and re-stay.

Being a Hyatt Globalist member, I ever stayed at numerous Hyatt hotels including Shanghai. Every year end I always take my family to stay at a Hyatt hotel and this time decided to try Grand Hyatt. When making the room booking I specifically asked the Hyatt hotline staff to make special arrangment for our marriage anniversary.
During our stay we got upgraded to a suite room even though it's not the best river view room, and the bed had some rose decoration. But surprising, we were never given anything complimentary like fruits, or a bottle of wine. In comparison with our previous stays at Park Hyatt or Hyatt on the Bund, these two hotels were given us the best view suites and a bottle of wine/fruits.
The next day when checking out, I told the hotel staff how disappointed I felt that there was no special arrangment for us, and the hotel staff at the lounge just told us the best he could do was to offer a a river view suite in our next stay. I doubted if I want to stay at this hotel again

A suite upgrade cost me 100 RMB (about $15 USD). I ended up with an amazing room with all amenities, walk-in closet and even extravagant luxuaries such as toilet seat that auto rises as I enter the spacious commode, electric sheers and dark blinds and so much more. Lounge access actually saved me money in the long run with drinks and all meals delicious. I was on the 75th floor. It was designated city view, which it was, but there is still plenty of river to see as it curves around Pudong. And, the nearby world-class skyscrapers were like an arms length away from my window. I almost spent my vacation in my room, the lounge, and restaurants. Everything was first rate. And, everything you hear of the view from the lobby, atrium, and upper floor restaurants and lounge is true. Breath-taking, even for former Hong Kong expat used to living in the sky.

I am Globalist, I booked a room for my friend as guest of honor so she could enjoy free breakfast. She checked in on 12/08/2023, check out on 12/09/23.
On 12/09/23 morning, she was going to get her breakfast, they told her that she had to pay for it. She messaged me from Wechat after she asked. I then told her to go to the front desk to ask again and she did. I even told her to say this : “It is a guest of honor booking so I should have free breakfast“. She asked the lady at the front desk (That was China time 12/09/2023 at around 8:20 am), The front desk lady told her that it was not marked as a guest of honor reservation.
Then I called the globalist line for 40 mins to ask for help while she was in the hotel lobby waiting for me to get back to her. In the end the person from the globalist line told me to have her go ahead to have breakfast and Hyatt would reimburse the cost.
Now World of Hyatt My Hyatt Concierge contacted the hotel managers, they do not want to pay back the cost that my friend has paid, they lied about they had told my friend about breakfast at Club Lounge at check in. If they told her on 12/08/2023, why would she ask again and again on 12/09/23 and the lady at front desk even said the booking was not marked as guest of honor.
How could the two managers know that the front desk people had said to her or had not said to her? My friend and I could not believe why they lied. I would like to know if they could check their front desk security camera to go back to see what the front desk people had said to my friend. It is very unacceptable. Did the two managers work hard to find out with whoever checked her in and checked her out? Whoever at 12/09/2023 at around 8:20 am told her that the guest of honor was not marked on the reservation?
The two managers lied! They just wanted to say that they did nothing wrong, very sad!! I am in shock! Because no one told her about the Club lounge so she did not know where to have breakfast, she had breakfast at the wrong location and not the Club and the hotel managers lied about they told my friend she would be charged because she had breakfast in the wrong location and not the Club at check out. It was not much money she has spent. But again no one had told her Club lounge at check in and check out and the lady even told her the booking was not guest of honor.
A good hotel managers should not have lied about things like that because they wanted to cover their mistakes.

Yes. But seems like most of them are uncomfortable or forgets about how to interact with foreign tourists perhaps due to the 3 years of lock down. This is based on stay in January. Maybe now the staff is more used to it after few months of opening.
Yes they have massage but unsure if it did room service. You can usually get in room service from shops not in the hotel.
Yes. The spa has a pool and hot tub and steam for guests. Bring a bath song cap
Yes! And yet one of the best locker room I’ve been to.
I think it will say very clearly on reservation if it’s bund-faced. So the answer is no.
