We would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff of the Portman Ritz Carlton in Nanjing West Road Shanghai for the consideration and kindness during our stay over the weekend, in particular to Angus who looked after us on Saturday evening no differently to how he looks after all the guests that arrive in the club lounge. We have stayed at the Portman Ritz Carlton many times and have had the honour to meet many members of the staff there and we are always made to feel welcome. Carson who looks after the Portmans Restaurant and Tural who makes the best Negroni I have ever tasted are others that make everyone welcome. Can't wait for the Champagne on the 8th floor to reopen.
We had high expectations when we booked into this hotel. The website photographer did a great job of contributing to those expectations. I have to say the service is great. The hotel staff are attentive and friendly and go out of their way to help. On the website it said we could check in at 2:00 but our rooms still weren't ready so they put us somewhere else. The rooms are okay. It was still a bit dirty in one of our rooms. In the morning our other room smelled of cigarette smoke. This is a common problem in hotels here and even though they are "non-smoking" people still smoke in them and it's pretty gross. I have children who are allergic and it was not a good experience for us in this room. When I talked to reception they tried to help by saying that they would charge the person smoking and remind people not to smoke. I don't think this is good enough. We paid a lot for our room and had a poor time in one of them due to the smoke. We most likely won't return and will stick to the hotel we usually go to in Shanghai. The breakfast was okay...just frantic and busy and noisy. The pool was not what the photo makes it look to be. It was neglected looking and the tiles looked old and dirty. Overall we would not recommend this hotel as there are better ones in the city if you are looking for a nice pool and experience for your money. …
Great hotel. The location is very conveniet. In the middle of the center of Shanghai. All the famous places are easy to reach. The staff off the hotel is very friendly staff. Especially Luna. I had a great stay in the hotel.
Deluxe room upgraded to a corner room due to elite Bonvoy status. Room was clean but the decor looks like it was stuck in 2000s with sterile lighting before USB charging points. The power point at the work desk was awkwardly placed in a drawer left of the chair - I knocked it out a couple of times while working on emails. The equipment in the gym and 20m pool looks old and in desperate need of a update. On the bright side, the jacuzzi/steam in the men's locker are now running again since the lifting of COVID restrictions. Breakfast options located in the next building were not inspiring. For a fraction of the price the hotel is demanding, you can head out to Element Fresh or Manner Cafe just out of the entrance for a more healthy option. On the plus side, you can't beat this location in the middle of JingAn. Lots of malls, local eats with easy access to the subway. .…
It feels great to back in Shanghai. Wishing my family can join me but this time it is a business trip again. It never fails, everyone is so welcoming especially Angel, Lounge Director/Manager. She is very friendly, caring, and pays attention to the guest. All of her staff is awesome. Never regret coming to the Portman Ritz Carlton Shanghai. Awaiting to see my other great friends, Angus and Turo.
