I'd give this place 4.5 stars if could. I got a group rate of 125 a night and for 125 a night this place was awesome. Clean, beautiful view, comfortable bed and I was fortunate enough to have a balcony!!! They had a very nice shower tub area that had a glass enclosure. Everything in there was clean modern, and...

Good hotel offering good rooms at a reasonable price ( suggest you check search engines for best value rooms as booking direct is quite expensive ) . Very well positioned near night life and good restaurants , thorouglly recommend. Just a word of caution there are a number of east asia hotels in Shanghai and our taxi driver took us...

I stayed at the Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel with my husband for my birthday. The Vice GM Lily Gao kindly helped us arrange the stay and she was most helpful. The hotel has great facilities including one of the best gyms, pool and tennis courts in Shanghai. Located so conveniently in the French Concession area, next to the subway...

Stayed with a big group back in Dec 2013, and we loved it. The rooms were not the most spacious, but had all the bells and whistles - including possibly the greatest shower I've ever been in. The hotel is right in a beautiful green neighbourhood, and quite close to the subway, restaurants and shops. They have great athletic facilities...

The location is great and the room is very good, the breakfest is good, but still, a little overpriced. If you can, get a room with access to the executive lounge and enjoy a reasonable wine in the end of the aftenoon. The gym is also very good.

An excellent hotel to arrive back to after very long days of train and car travel to various mills and factories. The room was extremely comfortable with all the amenities one expects from a 5 star hotel. The staff always greeted me with a smile. The concierge Frank and the rest of the team were very helpful. Laundry, pressing service,...

An oasis of peace in the heart of Shanghai. From the very moment I came in, I see and feel the luxury, friendly service and quiet peace needed for resting from a long trip. The gym is outstanding, and with so many amenities (tennis, squash, golf simulator, game rooms, bowling, pool, sauna, etc) there is always something to do. In...

Stayed 4 nights and found the room to be most luxurious. Everything without exception worked perfectly. The bed was so big I almost got lost. Here is a hotel that puts in a 42" television, whereas most economise with a 32", which sums up their consideration of the customer. The staff were efficient and courteous. Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
