Room was excellent, worth the extra few dollars for the executive floor and all the perks. Free use of the business centre was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived via the metro and it was only 500mt walk. Very clean, breakfast very good.

Great place, since three years not slip up. stayed there with family, nearly every month alone, and hosted EU Chamber conferences there. Food is good, maybe not five star, the wine selection is five star. location in the old French concession invites for gentle walk under trees in the evening. Only issue I have are the singers, not my taste

Good location in Xuijahui area on Hengshan road - close to many nice restaurants and exclusive Grand Gareway shopping center. Service attitude is excellent, but some staff members struggle a bit with english. Rooms have been renovated lately and are nice and modern. Hotel has large, well equiped gym with spa/massage services available and a long swimmingpool. Hotel has also...

The hotel was a definite 4 1/2 to 5 star for us. The decor was classy and modern. It was very clean. The breakfast buffet had a wide range of Chinese and Western items, hot and cold. We were only there 2 nights with a tour group but all was well. The only issue we had, on our first night...

The room/bathroom was comfortable and luxurious. Almost didn't want to leave to go outside. Staff was friendly and spoke English. Breakfast buffet was EXCELLENT. I've stayed at this wonderful hotel three times in the past several years. Will return in a heartbeat.

I've now stayed at the Regal International Asia East on 3 separate occasions over 3 years, while teaching at Fudan and Tongji Universities. This hotel is great -- the renovated rooms are terrific, the staff goes above and beyond to help their guests. The breakfast buffet has English/Chinese/Japanese food (but not Indian), and they get to know their clientele quite...

The reception staff were very good and helpful; morning breakfast staff was generally good and timely, although had a rather grumpy waiter the last day who clearly would liked to have been in bed than working. The rooms were very spacious & very clean, although our room was located next to the cleaning staff entry and very noisy in the...

Dear Olli S, Thank you for staying with us and leaving your valuable comments. We will further enhance our training to ensure more morning friendly service. We do indeed have some crew members staying on the 20th floor but they normally arrive between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. We have reminded our housekeeping team to be more considerate for the...

Growling front desk staff, smoked filled rooms (in a hotel that says it has a no smoking policy), breakfast that contains almost no healthy choices, and rooms where the temperature is uncontrollable (too hot some days and tool cold others) are just a few of the problems with this hotel. I was placed on a high (un-renovated floor) and the...

Dear sacrotravel, Thank you for staying with us and leaving your valuable comments. The smoking policy was recently implemented and we still have some stubborn guests who are ignoring the regulations but however charged a deep cleaning fee if found out. This is a major step for Shanghai and we are making steady progress. We will enhance our breakfast buffet...

This hotel is in a very nice area of Shanghai - French concession. If you want to stay closer to the Bund, then you should look for another hotel. Hotel is clean, but need some facelift for sure. Large rooms. Breakfast has a large selection of International and Chinese dishes.

I switched rooms to one of the "updated" rooms (for a price) and thankfully escaped staying in one of the older rooms with the small bathroom and tub. Although the room I had was nice, it is TOO HOT in this hotel. The air conditioning barely works during the day, and they appear to switch it off at night -...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
