Was initially apprehensive as to how this might turn out to be for a stay since have stayed at the Marriotts and Radissons in Shanghai before . Well was happy to see firstly having all staff speaking in English pretty well and with very well intended courtesies extended all the time. The concierge was equally well qualified and also the...

This hotel is well located near the Hengshan Rd metro station. It is a convenient starting point for walks in various directions through the former French Concession, and a 10 minute walk to (or 1 metro stop away from) many shopping centres and restaurants at Xujiahui. The hotel has many facilities, including tennis court, swimming pool, and bowling alley, and...

Due to delayed flight we arrived in the early hours but were processed promptly for quick access to our rooms. Our room was large but could have done with some updating, however no real complaints. We didn't get too much chance to get our bearings but a short walk to underground station. Breakfast was very good.

I enjoyed staying in this hotel, rooms are clean and up to standard, and the service is very good. Location is rather central and conveniently close to subway. It was the 3rd time that I stayed here, and I will surely come again.

Hotel is good as international hotel. Cuisine however is very much focused on foreign travellers, so not impressive. As there are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood though, this is easliy solved.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
