Good central location; good rooms and overall infrastructure; Japanese management can be felt throughout the facility and also inside the rooms (especially through the heated toilets ;)) the staff is quite slow and unprofessional for a 5 star rated hotel; the internet is extremely slow; Good option only if you are getting a good offer.

This is a typical Japanese brand hotel. With grand lobby, large and comfortable room and facilities. The staff are very proactive and helpful. We tried to look for a nice place to have a drink after midnight. Since the bar at hotel has closed, a male staff gave us recommendations nearby. Only one minor shortfall: insufficient of staff station at...

This review is the reason I register with TripAdvisor, as I think it is important to inform my fellow travelers, especially those on business, to watch out for this hotel. To be fair, the rooms in the hotel are decent. Comfortable bed, clean bath and shower facilities. Great spa experiences, would highly recommend. On the other hand, service standard dropped...

Avoid the Nikko Shanghai if you can help it, Hilton is nearby for similar price and much better service. The staff and management don’t really care about customer service and the rooms face one of the main arterial routes into Shanghai, is right outside the window it is busy 24-hours, not good for trying to sleep.

Rooms in desperate need of refurbishment. The hotel staff appear to be totally untrained. To call them amateur would be too much of a compliment. Management is non-existent. Almost everything on the room service menu is not available. Hardly anyone speaks English. I cannot thing of a single neutral, let alone positive, thing to say about the place.

Landed at Nikko as regular hotel had no rooms. Would come back for following - v good price when booked through agent. Excellent swimming pool, gym and sauna. Did not use spa but looked good. Maybe not because - tried to extend my 4 night stay by 1 night and was asked to go to agent as the hotel could...

this hotel is up to standard of 5-star, concierge helped us with luggage and also very friendly, especially maybe their manager Jayden was most helpful, he recommended many good restaurants for us, and helped us to take the taxi and metro very carefully, he is a good staff here.

This is my first time staying in Nikko. Room is big but the room temperature cannot be adjusted, too warm - don't think the thermostat works. Their buffet breakfast has plenty of choice but quality not impressive. Traffic in Shanghai is bad as ever and the staff at the concierge were not especially helpful and attentive in the morning rush...

Staying in Zhongshan Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Zhongshan Park
The residential and commercial areas around the beautiful grounds of Zhongshan Park have never been considered particularly fashionable by a majority of Shanghai’s foreign residents, but plenty of expats do choose to live here. The park itself is a huge draw, providing a pocket of serenity in the middle of the metropolis. The area has its share of trendy shops with wares that can’t be found elsewhere, delicious restaurants with food ranging from fancy to affordable, and great hidden bars. Rents are also cheaper here than in other neighborhoods with the same conveniences. Aside from the obvious attractions, with its neighborhood fix-anything shops and pop-up street stalls that sell anything you need, you’ll never sacrifice Western comforts.

“Make sure to clarify that you want nonsmoking. It may not always be possible, but I can guarantee that my room hasn't been smoked in recently and no ashtrays are available. If you get a south-facing room, you will be overlooking the highway. As is often the rule in Shanghai, if you get a good view, you are in a more expensive floorplan. Be sweet to the checkin and if occupancy is low, they may upgrade you just out of kindness. All staff in big hotels are given a little bit of leeway to accommodate a few guests per week. Hallways were super quiet the entire time, with staff clearly not belting loud conversations through the hallway during housekeeping - something many hotels in the world, not just in China, could learn from. Cheers to that!”
