What a nice place! It is amazing and totally worth to stay a night there. Me and my friend love the environment and the place. The only thing that pity is we didn’t get to have the ice-cream! The staff is very nice, met a sweet intern Jessica, good service. Recommend to stay!

As the coronavirus started to invade Shanghai, Shanghai geared up to fight the virus and citizens are grounded at home for the lunar new year. We canclled our trip abroad as well for three reasons: 1. Flying out of Shanghai exposes us in a confined airplane 2. We might be affected already and don't want to potentially carry the virus abroad 3. There is also a chance we might not be able to get back if Shanghai is quarantined.

We decide to escape from the city and check ourselves into the secluded InterContinental Wonderland, hidden in a pit in the far away Sheshan area. We figured that this hotel is unlikely to attract people escaping out of Wuhan.

Guest Services called me a day before to confirm our arrival time and asked for preferred room type. As my Royal Ambassador was downgraded to Amnassador this year after 11 years as RA, I asked whether the hotel can grant us lounge access.

Upon check in, Sanny generously offerred a triple room type upgrade, and granted me lounge access.

We all have been to this hotel before and are familiar with the property. But the executive lounge is new to me and it's wonderful. Located on the 13th floor, one level above the viewing deck, this executive lounge is a full service lounge that offers breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour and check in/out services. I was surprised that the lounge manager Sarah greeted me when I first stepped into the lounge. She recognizes me from another hotel I stayed before. What a pleasant surprise.

The staff here are professional and courteous. It's the people here that makes this property one of our favorite hotels in Shanghai, and most importantly, a peaceful sanctuary for hideaway in turbulent time.

It has an extremely unique architectural and is full of interesting views from the internal lake to the rock faces and waterfall. The evening water / light show was neat, and all of the staff we encountered were extremely polite, helpful and professional.

The rooms are very functional and well designed. Little details and amenities that made it more comfortable.

We enjoyed the swimming pool as a family and felt the breakfast buffet was very tasty and differentiated in terms of the quality compared to other hotels' buffets.

In short, highly recommend for a quick escape from Shanghai city, or if you are travelling in the area. Sheshan has a lot to see and do as well.

Pros: Very cool location in a quarry - impressive and unique. Rooms are very comfortable and we have a nice view on the balcony facing the water and waterfall. Nice amenities in the room like Dyson hairdryer. Also there is an Alexa type “Xiao Du” that can control all the electronics using voice command (requires mandarin). Good friendly service overall, particularly the Maitre D at the Fisher restaurant who was extremely attentive. He took us to see the sharks in the private room which was very cool. There is a nice water show at 7:30pm and 8:30pm.
Cons: Very pricey so the value for money isn’t great. The check-in took a very long time, and they should hire more staff at reception to prevent the queues. Dinner at the Fisher restaurant while service was very good, the food was mediocre for the price point at $140/pp and there was only a set menu (no a la carte). That bottom floor of the hotel / restaurant is supposed to be underground / in water but it’s actually large aquariums versus actually in water. Breakfast buffet was quite hectic.

As a IHG platinum member, this last four hours could easily be the worst 4 hours I have had in any hotel.
1) i checked in at around 3:15pm, the lineup at the hobby was chaotic, to say the least, i waited there for 15 mins before someone helped me.
2) The room assigned was at one end of the building, i asked the staff to switch to another one, she said she can't do it, even after she confirmed the hotel is not full.
3) I asked for help to setup the TV, it took me 2 phone calls and a 20 mins wait before a staff came to my room.
4) He wore his shoe and walk right in when two of my kids are barefoot, running around the room.
5) I called again and asked for a pair of slippers for my kids, it took another 10 mins.
6) I am sitting at one of the restaurant for dinner as I typed this comment. It took a manager and two staff in order for me to get an extra bowl of rice.

I don't know what i should expect in the next two days, can't of hard to imagine this could get worst!

Overall excellent! An upgrade to Ruby is worth it. The view from the room is gorgeous. Such a view may be common in a national park, but absolutely rare considering that it's just a 30-minute drive away from Shanghai. Facilities are new and upscale. The room is not huge but feels luxurious and cozy at the same time. Service is also topnotch. GSM Irine called after check-in and again after check-out to ask about my experience, displaying a high level of customer care. I never had a problem during my stay but if there were, I believe they'd handle it promptly. Highly recommended for a weekend retreat.

The only thing that I see could be improved is the waiting time at the reception in peak times. The number of reception desks is probably designed corresponding to the number of guest rooms. However, because most guests here stay for only one or two nights, the traffic at the reception can be several times busier than that of a business hotel with the same number of rooms.

I like the hotel not only because of the facilities or cleanliness or location. I like hotels when the staff knows what good customer service is. It irritates me when staff does not know English and does not know how to respond to guests. I was irritable when I came to check in because I was exhausted from a flight. I was tired, sleepy and most of all STARVING. I wanted to call room service but the girl answering the phone is not very bright and does not know how to speak English. And kept telling me to just wait. I cannot wait because I was very hungry. All I want is for someone to take my order. So I had to walk up to the reception lobby to order my food there. The manager, Mr. Yan accommodated me. I am thankful for his wonderful service. Also, another manager, which I failed to get the name, went out of his way to buy me pads. Because the location of the hotel is far, there were no convenient stores where I can buy sanitary pads. The manager bought pads for me and delivered it to our room directly. So lucky this hotel have these 2 excellent managers or else I would have given this hotel a very bad review. Thank you to the managers for knowing what true good customer service means!

We had the best two nights for relaxing; the reception staff were so friendly and kind.

No words for the room; it was enormous, comfy, clean, and offered different spacious areas to enjoy.

The experience of staying at this hotel includes different shows that you can be a part of, such as a water and music show that took place right in the reception area, and another show that takes place in the lagoon. This was amazing—a water, lights, and music show that happens every night, and we saw it from our room.

The breakfast is buffet-style, with many choices. In the same restaurant, you can have dinner, which is also buffet style, offering so many different options, and everything is really tasty.

In case you want a fancy dinner, you have the option to go downstairs to Mr. Fisher, where we had such a beautiful time enjoying every plate of the tasting menu and viewing the aquarium.

Even though this hotel is located about 47 km away from the city center, it is worth it to spend some special nights here.

Hoping to get back soon.

We had a wonderful time at the hotel, this hotel is a magnificent architecture piece and trust me it looks better in person. We were warmly welcomed and had a quick check in, the hotel manager Sally was beyond kind to us and explained a lot of details of the hotel and also have us the best advice on how to enjoy the hotel better and where to take the best photos, her advice on when are where to go truly made a difference !
The rooms where nice and clean, it’s an experience to get to your room as you walk through the mine, the room had an spectacular view and nice balcony, totally worth to spend some time there and enjoy the view . We called in advance and since we mention it was our anniversary they prepared the room to look lovely and romantic (thanks btw), we managed to do everything in English without any issue.
We had dinner at the underground restaurant Mr fisher, as sally recommended we booked as we did the check in and we managed to have a great table, Logan the restaurant manager and his team spoiled us and made us had a great time, they also supported us to take photos and showed us the restaurant. They have a set menu which was worth it, mostly based on sea food, they can be flexible if you have some allergies. I do recommend to book in advance and they only have the set menu, just so you know, also prepare to stay some time there as food never stops coming.
Lastly one of the most things to do is to see the drone show and the water show in the night! This was a beautiful well prepared show full of technology and music, if you have a nice view you can see it from your balcony but I would recommend to see it on the ground floor.
Take into consideration that the hotel can get really busy, so if you are looking for a nice chill time I would avoid holidays , definitely worth it on a normal week!

This is a beautiful hotel located in songjiang. It is actually not far from the Shesan attractions.

The big draw for this hotel is that it is built inside a quarry. You enter the hotel at ground level, and then you can go down 16 levels where the bottom three levels at a restaurant as well at the club levels.

There is a very good cantonese restaurant, but you must make reservations to get a seat.
