We stayed in a four bed room and it was very clean but had a strange smell in it. The staff were helpful and attentive but some had limited English and did not know some things about the hostel. This hostel has well appointed facilities but seemed pretty empty when we were there, Overall a place to stay for a...

We stayed for a couple of days in Shanghai and this hostel seemed the best for the price. It is quite big and well appointed and only a nice 10 min stroll to the metro station. We stayed in a four person room which although clean did have a strange smell and a broken window. The staff on the whole...

We usually stay here when we fly international the next day out of shanghai. The hostel is very friendly, clean and has a nice location. It also has a really nice rooftop bar with decently made and priced drinks.

Often come to this hostel when my friends and I decide to go to Shanghai for a weekend. Close to some bars to start the night (2 minutes walking). Clean and honest. We never had any problem staying there. It is very quiet, so if you are looking to meet new people, it will be little bit difficult, specially if...

Visited here with a couple of friends as part of a visit to China. The prices were competitive and the location (near the Jing'an Temple tube station) allowed us to travel around Shanghai with ease. On a side note: any non-Mandarin, English speaking tourists in Shanghai can get around the city cheaply, quickly and without hassle by using the tube....

It took a while to find this place off of Xianyang Road, but it's in the middle of the French Quarter three or four blocks south of the Jing'An Temple, which is a fun site in itself. Close to the subways, it serves as a surprisingly affordable hostel located not too far outside the city center. My girlfriend and I...

We stayed in a 3 bed room, quite confortably for a few days. Very clean, excellent bathroom, nice roofbar, good laundry service and friendly reception young clerks. The location is in a quite neighborhood not too far from the underground station. It is very shanghaiese in my opinion.

I arrived in Shanghai in the evening by train from Beijing and took a taxi to the hostel, the driver dropped me off at the entrance of a narrow alley which wasn't greatly lit. The first impression was negative as the staff wasn't polite, talkative or very helpfull. Other than that, the room was ok and the showers were brilliant....

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Tour Traveler’s Rest Youth Hostel is located in the downtown area of Shanghai and is just 10 minute’s walk from the Subway (Line 2 and Line 7) (JingAn Temple Station and Airport City Terminal). Shanghai Exhibition Centre, Paramount Entertainment and former French Concession are all within walking distance. 5-minute's walk from the subway Line 7 - ChangPing Road Station, which leads directly to Shanghai EXPO Park.Nearby Nanjing West Road is a busy main road with offices, shops, restaurants and pubs. However the hostel is set back in a quiet residential side street away from the hustle and bustle. The building itself was built in the 1930s and is a former Towel Factory that used to supply towels to almost every family in China. When renovating the building we tried to salvage and re-use as much as we could from the old building – much of the furniture, flooring and panelling that you see in our guest rooms and common areas are made from the original timber. We accepts ISIC, IYTC, ITIC, HI Hostel card, Hostelworld VIP Card, … as our membership cards. We can offer accommodation in double rooms, twin rooms, apartment rooms and shared single-sex dormitories. The hostel offers a lively, vibrant atmosphere and has a Café and Bar, 24 hour access, free internet, bike hire, laundry, luggage lockers, garden, TV/DVD lounge, Table Tennis, Billiards and a quiet reading room. Also, at our reception there is a Travel Center, where customers can book flight and train tickets, as well as tickets for local one day tours and acrobatics shows, and much more besides… ... more   less
