Nanuku Resort, Fiji

Our fierce fire-lighting warriors! We were blown away with these two little legends taking part in the fire-lighting ceremony at Nanuku. Their buddy Siko whisked them away from us before dinner & to our delight, just on sunset, drums started to beat & they appeared dressed as traditional warriors helping carry the torch lighting flame. They balanced like statues on their way across the water on this bamboo raft & we watched in awe thinking how on earth did they get our wild 3 year old to do THAT

The Nanuku resort is amazing. Our stay was magical and so relaxing.

The staff were very attentive and took the time to learn our names and always greeted us personally. Everything was a simple request away and many requests were done before we even asked. We were waited on very attentively without it being intrusive.

Our room went right out onto the beach past our own infinity pool. It was immaculate and so comfortable. The entire resort was in immaculate. Everything was in excellent condition and to a very high standard.

The resort was very peaceful, you were engulfed by the sounds of waves and nature. The beach was amazing to swim in with fish up to the waters edge. The pools were relaxing and sunny.

I would recommend Nanuku to anyone who asks and many that haven't. We will definitely be returning.

We travelled with our two boys (12 and 10 years) to Nanuku from 3-10 January. The welcome ceremony on arrival was beautiful, the staff attentive and helpful throughout our entire stay, the food delicious and the location simply stunning. Our boys were probably a little too old for the kids club, but the villa buddy was always approaching them, asking if they wanted to go hiking, snorkeling etc. Attention to detail was one of the things we noticed most at Nanuku. The grounds were immaculate, as were the rooms, dining areas and pool areas. The staff are definitely what makes this place so amazing. They always greet you with a smile and "Bula" and they genuinely want to ensure that you have a terrific experience. We loved the nightly entertainment - those Fijians can sing! Thank you Nanuku for a wonderful experience.

I had been to Fiji before, but not a top end resort. My husband and I had just ended a week up in the Yasawas ( I will post a separate review on that). but when we got back to the Main island, the Nanuku Auberge resort and spa spoiled us for two days!

First of all, if you are considering Fiji vs Hawaii , there is no comparison... Fiji is so much more authentic and the island Fijian people are all around you and so so friendly. This is an ideal resort for not only couples on a romantic vacay, but also families.
It is 20 hours off from US, so less jet lag, actually, since you become almost a day off..

The resort staff is super accomodating to whatever you want to do.. I did yoga each morning on the deck with Cecilia ( not her spelling), and she gave me a great stretch and workout.
Then the staff set up a bird-watching river kayak trip for me and my husband, which was magical, but interrupted by a few downpours.
There is a spa for massages, a great pool with swim up bar, snorkeling just off shore on the local reef, or any number of expeditions, like deep sea fishing, go to a desert island, etc. We were lucky to be there on cultural night, with singing, and a kava ceremony.

If you check out the prices, many are "inclusive" or includes meal plan, which includes B, L and Dinner, which is a great deal, actually, since the service is so good and menu is good. Americans, please understand "Fiji time" means slower, or "when it happens", so expectation set for that ANYWHERE in Fiji.

The only down side, seriously is that it may take a 2+ hour car trip from Nadi airport area to this resort. It is located by the Pacific harbor on the South, If you are staying more than one day... it is worth it.
Enjoy! We will be coming back here, God willing...

My partner Chris and I stayed at Nanuku resort for 5 nights this November and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Every single member of staff is so kind and welcoming. The resort is breathtaking. When we began planning our trip to Fiji we saw a lot about the infinity pool at the Marriott Momi Bay, however the infinity pool at Nanuku outshines even that. It is literally steps away from the beach, and the remoteness of the location means you will often have the entire beach to yourself. We used Bula Taxi to take the two hour drive from Nadi airport to the resort and they were relaible, affordable and very prompt. Mohamad our driver was hilarious, a wonderful guide on the drive and turned us onto Fiji Gold!
Once at Nanuku, I highly recommend the meal packages, as the food is delicious, and of very high quality. The lunch menu is very extensive with something for everyone’s taste, and the dinner menu alternates so you can try something different every night. Mah, Maria and Sera often took care of us at the restaurant and always had some kind words and DELICIOUS recommendations. Definitely try the kokoda!
The attention to detail and the care by the Nanuku staff is unmatched. Zenty was always around to make sure things run smoothly and had some great recommendations. Koroi was extremely helpful and welcoming and put me onto new music recommendations I’ll definitely be taking home and sharing as well. A big shout out to Vitinia, who always had a big smile and kind words. She gave us some great recommendations and made me feel so cared for and welcome. We did a long boat waterfall excursion with Bale and were blessed to enjoy gorgeous views of the river and forest culminating in a few hours swimming and picnicking by a waterfall. Many other resorts also have waterfall activities but the one we went to with Bale was so fresh and beautiful, nearly untouched. And we had it all to ourselves! He spoke to us about growing up in Fiji and taught us some wonderful things. Solo is like a personal cultural guide and always explains and educated us so we had so much more appreciation for our experience. We got amazing bobo massages from Tina and Rosa that were better than massages I have gotten at world class spas. Sai at the front desk made us feel so welcomed and answered so many of our questions. Every single interaction we had with our Nanuku family was absolutely wonderful. We celebrated my birthday and our 9th anniversary and it was truly memorable. I cannot recommend Nanuku enough! We enjoyed a villa with a private dipping pool and about 5 feet from the beach. We snorkeled almost every day. Vinaka Nanuku!

We arrived in the poring rain and were greeted with such warmth and a super fabulous Bula style welcome.

We were ferried straight to our one bedroom Auberge beach villa (210) with our check-in done in our villa.

It was breathtaking to arrive and take in an incredibly well appointed villa with not only direct access to the beach but views from our bedroom across our private pool and to the ocean. Even the rain could not dampen our spirits, we were so pleased with the villa, how well it was appointed but also how aesthetically pleasing our room was.

This villa would definitely be one of the better options in Fiji currently with an international elegance whilst retaining a contemporary Fijian flare in the actual architecture.

Great kitchenette with all the bits and pieces you could require should you wish to stay in the villa and cook for yourself. We loved the bikes that are provided with the villa. Such a fun addition. Service was outstanding right through out our 3 night stay.

The staff shine here. Everyone remembers your name and your likes & dislikes. Some of the best service and attention to detail we have experienced since moving to live in Fiji.

We loved our stay so much we stayed an extra night but we also booked to return in a few months.

Well done to the entire team of Nanuku, what a gem!

Overall we were very disappointed with our stay.

Individual staff attempted to provide personalized and attentive service though it was very disorganized.
The front desk staff was very disorganized and inefficient. We had to ask about late check out four times, and we were provided with four different answers. We did not find out until the morning of our check out, if we could check out late (which was part of our reservation extras and agreed upon by the front desk staff on day one of arrival). I had asked the front desk staff to provide us with toilet paper. After 1.5 hours, and multiple requests, I had to bike to the front desk area and carry it back to the villa myself.

We felt that in a lot of our interactions, the staff was trying to get us to upgrade. They asked us to pay more for a destination dinner table, they wanted us to buy the lobster meals, they wanted us to pay $1000 for a boat trip for snorkeling when it easily could have been done with the jet skis (which we did for $400, thanks to the "activity shop" suggestion).

We were also disappointed with the kitchen a couple times, despite breakfasts being of quality. The lobster salad ordered during our first dinner was inedible due to being so salty. During our last dinner, there was aluminum foil in one of the entrees.

Lastly, despite the grounds and rooms being beautiful (although a bit sterile), we struggled to get consistent cleaning services in our room. It seems that cleaning and turn down services are not in any way coordinated with times guests are at the restaurant. The villa mama came by a few times while we were in our room but not when we were in the restaurant, despite the sign being out for it. We noticed an item missing every time, whether it be a bath mat, clean hand towel, toilet paper, clean glasses, or water bottles.

From the moment we arrived at the resort till the time we checked-out - it was an absolute amazing experience!! It's hard to name just a few staff because all the staff that we came across and met were friendly, made us feel at home and easy to converse with. The resort itself is so exclusive and you have minimum to zero disturbances from other guests staying at the resort. It was the much needed relaxation and quiet time that my husband and I were looking forward to and we got just that! Absolutely fell in love with our room and the private pool! The food was lovely and the resort facilities were better than what I had expected. Would deifinetly be going back whenever I get the chance!

We spent a week at Nanuku for our honeymoon and had a truly memorable experience. It’s obvious the Nanuku staff work very hard. They are attentive and strive to accommodate guests. There was a welcome ceremony and a goodbye serenade with sweets to end our private dining and a serenade as we left for the airport. Special thanks to all the restaurant and bar staff— including Sera, Susana, Mah, Maria, Carolina, Dee, and Rusi.

We had a great experience with water activities— kayaking and jet skis + snorkeling with Solo as our guide. He was good company, striking the right balance between sharing interesting info about life in Fiji and local mythology and giving us space to just enjoy the experience. Snorkeling was unforgettable. Can’t recommend enough. Thank you, Solo!

We stayed in a garden villa. Housekeeping did an excellent job with the daily cleaning and turndown service. We enjoyed biking around the property and the privacy at our villa. For the most part, we enjoyed the food— even though we are used to spicer and more heavily seasoned cuisine back home.

Nanuku resort is a nice property, but it’s the staff that truly make it a special place: their pride in their history, culture, and way of life and their willingness to always have a friendly smile and a “bula vinaka” ready for you, even after a long day.

Recommendations:
- Share the Fijian customs for tipping earlier. In the U.S., it’s considered rude NOT to tip service providers for good service and specialized skills. Knowing the customs in Fiji right away can help guests know/when/and where to show extra appreciation to staff for their hard work.
- Keep a pool net at the villa for guests to spot clean debris out of the private pool if they want to— esp at the garden villas where small plant leaves and bugs fall into the pool throughout the day.

Incredible location and service at Nanuku! I traveled with a group of 14 people (7 couples) and although we only planned to stay 5 nights, but due to some issues we had to cancel a visit to another island and we asked if Nanuku was able to accommodate us us 3 days earlier. With just a few hours notice they had everything ready including personalized welcome messages in our rooms and brought us dinner when we arrived. I've traveled extensively but I have never experienced the level of service and friendship that I did at Nanuku.

Location
The drive from the airport to Pacific Harbour is long but it is the shortest 2.5 hour drive I've been on due how beautiful everything is. The resort is secluded and blends into the lush vegetation with nothing else around it. The beach is beautiful and the reef has pretty good snorkeling. For even better snorkeling there is a great reef a few hundred yards away. Bikes are provided and we loved being able to bike around. One thing to be aware of is that Pacific Habour receives much more rain than the other side of the island. Although it didn't rain much, it was overcast 5/8 days. It didn't ruin our trip but we wished we would have spent a few days in the outer islands to enjoy more sunshine.

Service
I really can't say enough about the incredible people and service that we received. Staff knew our names and went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible experience. One night at dinner I said to my wife that I wished they had the coconut brownies for dessert, shortly after our server brought out a big plate from the kitchen. Concierge was amazing to work with and easily customized plans for our big group. Our favorite activities were visiting a village, Nanuku island, longboat to the waterfall and the shark dive!. I've never been around such friendly people who really care.

Food
We liked the breakfast but lunch and especially dinner were subpar given the price. This was our only complaint about the resort. Meals were expensive and should have been much better. The food isn't bad but just needs some refinement. What we ended up doing most nights is get food from Graces Kitchen (5 min drive). Much cheaper, great variety, and food was fantastic.

Rooms
Accommodations were all really nice both at the villas and the suites. I think we liked the suites more. Rooms were always really clean and stocked with waters, sodas, and daily treates and snacks.

Overall, I highly recommend Nanuku but would have split up our trip so that we could have enjoyed the beauty of Nanuku and the weather of the outer islands.

Expectations are everything.

If you are expecting a Marriott or Sheraton level resort property, you will love this.

If you are expecting a Four Seasons level property, you will be disappointed.

If you can find this place at Sheraton pricing, book it. You will rate it five-stars

If you have to pay Four Seasons pricing for it, don't book it as you will rate it two-stars.

Nanuku has attentive staff that are well intentioned. Problem is that amenities, food, knowledge, etc. is not the same as the intentions of the staff. Inconsistent. Some stuff (e.g., seafood dinner, nice people, warm welcome, etc.) was great. Some stuff (e.g., excursion coordination, some meals, all things working in room, fitness center, etc) were disappointing.

Our issue was value for $ relative to like property quality in Fiji and globally, not Nanuku itself. Resort either needs to up its game to Four Seasons level quality or decrease its pricing to equivalent level of resort.

We travelled from Suva which was about 1 1/2 hours. But YES, worth every minute in the car. The journey itself is quite interesting, seeing different aspects of Fijian life. It’s your personal choice of course but if you’re going for at least a few nights, then definitely worth it. Agree with previous response. We were a couple but the nanny service was incredible. Great activities for them without interfering with other guests wanting a relaxing break.
