This may not be your 5 star resort but it is the place in which you can say you had a true holiday because this island puts your mind and body at ease. You do not spend money at all in this island because all meals are included. I'm the type of person who loves the beach and having my...

Caqalai has had a change of management recently at the time of writing this (December 2011) and it isn't at all like the bad reviews say. The staff are so friendly and caring and helpful. We felt we left the island as friends with the locals. The manager is excellent and sounds like he has turned the place around. We...

If my Bure had been any closer to the beach, it would have been on the sand with water lapping in at high tide it was so close! Real Robinson Crusoe stuff. A lovely little island with basic but cute bure accommodation. It is very good value for the price. The Lovo lunch on Sunday is very nice, but do...

I can't really believe what I'm reading when I see all the negative reviews, because when my friend and I stayed here in April this year, we had the most magical time. The Fijians who ran the accomodation were lovely and friendly, the food was delicious with the added bonus of afternoon tea, and the people we shared the island...

The island itself is sooooo beautiful!!! Paradisiac!!!! BUT OH LORD.....the people who run it, just RUIN it!! Our bure was a mess and definetly needs renovation! Broken furniture and roof, dirty, filthy. To me the "open showers" are a nice idea, but the weaved palm leave walls were old and destroyed.... Toilets were acceptable though. Food was always the same:...

As a backpacker/hostel location, caqalai isn't horrible but when you can having amazing experiences elsewhere (Bobo's Farm, Leleuvia, etc) for about the same price, it's not even worth a second glance. The rooms are basic, and dirty. My brother and I shared one of the bures with peeling floors and a door that was covered in mosquitos- thank goodness we...

Wow... Caqalai really is a true mix of Fijian culture and western ideals of a tropical paradise... Staffed by Fijians from the villages on the nearby islands (Ovalau and Moturiki), there is a real sense of Fiji here... from the good humoured banter and the laughter that you only find in Fiji, to the chilled approach to everything and the...

Caqalai was the last leg of my long journey across two continents, and it offered everything I was looking for: peace and quiet, great snorkelling, chilled atmosphere. It's one of those rare places that don't attract party animals (no booze on the island), so you can really relax. It's low key and very basic, mind you: simple thatched bures with...

We stayed at Caqalai for a few nights in June. The property looked a bit ragged around the edges, but the staff were very friendly, the snorkeling was great and the atmosphere was just totally chilled out and relaxing. This is what you'd imagine a little, slightly ragged, thatched bungalow on a beautiful beach would be like! The food was...
