We were in the downstairs room at the back of the house which was pretty unremarkable, with a small one person at a time bathroom. Maybe the upper floor rooms have more character? Liz and Bernard were helpful hosts and the simple breakfast cooked fresh to order and served in the nice surroundings of the cafe/shop.

My parents in their late 60's were totally charmed, as were we. The location doesn't get any better, and the store in the front has some lovely hand-picked items.

Heeren House is a quaint building overlooking the river in an excellent location. The room was very clean, bathroom basic but clean and wonderful atmosphere. I think it was a bit overpriced and the cooked breakfast was not very generous - 1 egg, 2 slices of cooked tomato, 1 small sausage (hot dog) and half a has brown. Serving half... More

15 Ringitts from the Bus Station by taxi, and 15 minutes! Great location by the river and quiet at night. Good English breakfast, although no local food choice! Excellent service from Liz and Bernard who advised us on directions and other local info. Okay, so the television is rubbish, some of us want away from that intrusion! My only complaint,... More

This is a great place to stay. The accommodation reflects the mode of the old part of town: a long and narrow house with a feel for its history. Liz and Bernard were helpful and friendly hosts, full of ideas and aware of our needs as first-time visitors.

Heeren House in my opinion has a great location being so close to Jonkers Walk but its rooms and service are over rated and not worth the price we paid. The old world charm and architecture of Heeren House is lovely but the renovation does not include modern facilities. The TV has very poor reception and there is no cable... More

A small, but very well maintained, historic house which is situated right on the Melaka River in the heart of old Melaka. Excellent breakfasts in the cafe/shop so that you are surrounded by lovely artefacts from the region while you eat. In addition to it being a wonderful setting, our hosts, Bernard and Liz, were extremely helpful with suggestions and... More

We staid at the Heeren House for 2 nights. The location is just great. Right in the middle of the old town and really close to the bus stop. Right next door is a great restaurant, Harper's. The guesthouse is furthermore very charming and really fits well with the old town. The down side is that it's pretty noisy. We... More

We stayed for 3 nights with 3 other friends. The owners are really friendly and make you feel at home. Nice breakfast - proper tea! - served with a smile. The guest house is just on the edge of China town overlooking the river, so you're cloes to the action without the noise. The building is a traditional dutch style... More

Hereen House is the way a guesthouse should be. It has charming old rooms with plenty of character, very friendly owners, great cooked breakfasts and very reasonable rates plus the added bonus is that it is right in the centre of the old town - overlooking the river. The rooms are small but pleasant with beautiful hardwood floorboards and our... More
