The Mercure Cardiff North Hotel garners mixed feedback from guests. Its central location is a plus for city explorers, though many bemoan the steep parking fees. While the hotel's modern atmosphere and cleanliness earn praise, noise issues and staff demeanor have raised some concerns.
Room comfort and tidiness are highlighted positively, yet poor lighting and heating are drawbacks. The hotel's food is popular for being hot and tasty, but guests have called out maintenance flaws. Opinions on service vary, with reports of both commendable and disappointing staff interactions.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the weekend (Friday - Sunday) including breakfast. It was reasonably priced for 2 of us, the breakfast buffet was good and extensive with cold meats, the various typical hot meats like sausage and bacon, eggs and pastry. Coffee and juices available too. The hotel is a 10 minute drive from Cardiff city so it’s quiet enough but close enough if you want to head into the center.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were really polite and professional and knocked during our stay and asked us if we needed cleaning or towels etc, rather than just trying to come in and clean the room.
We didn’t try the restaurant for dinner or room service as the hotel’s menu didn’t seem very extensive however we got 2 drinks from the hotel bar, paid about £20 for a red wine and vodka Red Bull which I thought was expensive and the wine wasn’t good quality either.
Slept amazing though, the mattress was a medium hard feel, the room was pitch black which I love and there wasn’t a lot of noise from the outside but more from the neighboring rooms (doors being slammed and people talking).

Dear Jasmin, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and found it extensive, offering a variety of options. It's great to know that our location provided a quiet environment while still being close to the city centre. We appreciate your kind words about our friendly and helpful staff, especially the cleaning team who ensured your comfort during your stay. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the noise from neighbouring rooms and the quality of the wine at our bar. We will take your feedback into consideration to improve our offerings. Although our restaurant menu may not have been extensive enough for your preferences, we do offer a variety of dishes featuring specialities from the charcoal grill, such as steaks, burgers, and pizzas. We hope you will consider trying our restaurant during your next visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the future. The best thing about our stay at this Mercure was the food and customer service. The food was always hot, delicious and presented to a very high standard. The self serving breakfast was also incredibly fresh and hot. The customer service was amazing especially waiter Panchi who was fabulous! The only downside to the hotel was our cold room and ( outside wall) bathroom -there was no fixed radiator in either room , only an air conditioning unit in the bedroom which was old and noisy. There was also a small plug in radiator but not really great for such a spacious bedroom. I wouldn’t want to stay during a very cold spell ! However on the whole I would recommend this hotel mostly for the incredible food and spacious room - just take some warm clothes!!

Dear Claire, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We're thrilled to hear that our culinary offerings and the service provided by Panchi made a positive impact on your stay. Our team takes great pride in delivering hot, delicious meals and exceptional customer service. As for your comment regarding the temperature in your room, we're sorry to hear that you found it to be cold. Stayed here for a weekend when attending Bruce Springsteen concert at Principality Stadium. The cost was increased from normal weekend but this was to be expected as all hotels in Cardiff were booked up. Lovely clean room and bathroom with daily maid service. We ate in restaurant for Dinner one evening, the food was lovely. Hotel was busy due to concert but we were able to find table at Breakfast and food was regularly replenished on the hot buffet. We had a slight mix-up with room as we were allocated the wrong room on arrival. we had a few problems over the weekend with key access, but this was sorted out. The night manager was particularly helpful in sorting this out for us.

Very poor hotel stay. The room was freezing cold when we arrived as the window had been left open and the window catch was broken. The room was dark with awful lighting. There were only 2 very flat pillows on the double bed and no extra ones anywhere in the room. The shower is a large overhead type and no shower caps available if you were not planning to wash your hair. Very old dirty looking air conditioning unit on the wall for heating and a portable oil radiator with broken wheels. We came in around 10.40pm and asked if it was possible to order drinks from the bar and were made to feel like we were a great inconvenience. Drinks were very expensive. 1 pint of lager and a Gin and lemonade, 2 packets of crisps came to over 20 pound. The room was £90 (breakfast not included) and we were surprised to be charged another 8 for parking. Especially considering how far outside the city the hotel is.

Poor first impressions with an empty booze bottle thrown in the floor at the entrance, staff were disinterested and there was no politeness or conversation, we felt like we were a bother to them. Room was large but just unorganised, the kettle was situated in an area without an electrical input. Bathroom was a disappointment, broken toilet seat, porcelain was cracked in the shower and sink and the electrical input was hanging off the wall. We asked for an extra duvet but told we could t as the housekeeping staff had finished their shift (430pm) The bedroom window was broken and we couldnt shut it which wasn’t a problem as it was warm but it was full of cobwebs and dirt. On the plus side the bed was super comfy and clean. Went to the bar area, chairs were stained and dirty, most beers were out and then the gent serving us a dressed me as sir (I am most definitely a female) The worse part was breakfast, at £33 for two I don’t expect a 5* meal but I do expect a decent breakfast, there was no eggs, there was bacon and sausages and some mushrooms and that was about it, I asked if there would be more food coming out and I was told there was but it didn’t come out. The coffee machine was broken but did get fixed whilst we were there. We did try to discuss this in our check out but again the reception staff did not talk to us, we didn’t get asked about our stay and there were no apologies or further discussions when we told them about our experience.

Dear Rebecca, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, We are delighted that you found the bed to be comfy and clean; ensuring a good night's rest is a cornerstone of our service. However, we are sorry that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. We understand the importance of a welcoming entrance and apologise for the oversight you encountered. Our rooms are designed to offer convenience and comfort, and we regret to hear that the kettle placement did not meet this standard. We also take the condition of our facilities seriously, and it concerns us to hear about the state of the bathroom fixtures and bedroom window. Additionally, the experience you described with the housekeeping service and bar area falls short of the high standards we set for ourselves. We are sincerely sorry that the service did not meet your expectations and are reviewing your comments with our team in order to improve our service. Your feedback regarding breakfast is also noted; we aim to provide a varied and satisfying breakfast experience, and it seems we missed the mark during your visit. Nonetheless, our hotel's location in a quiet residential area near major business parks and attractions like Cardiff Castle and Cardiff Golf Club remains one of the highlights for many guests. With easy access to public transportation, our guests can enjoy the vibrant city centre of Cardiff, just a short bus ride away. We certainly hope that we can welcome you back again. I booked a room for the night of the Billy Joel concert in Cardiff. When we got to the room my partner opened the bathroom door and went into the bathroom. As the light switch was by the room entrance she came back out and switched it on to find blood on the bathroom door and she had put her hand on it. I went straight to reception and informed the lady working at the desk but her attitude was very blasé about the incident and just stated that she would get housekeeping to clean it up. No apology, no concern that my partner had touched somebody else's blood and the subsequent potential risks involved - just we will get it cleaned. If it wasn't that the chance of another room in Cardiff would cost a fortune I would have left then but time was running short to get into Cardiff for the concert. The next day I emailed the hotel with my disappointment through Booking.com and directly off the website but to date (27th Aug) I have had no reply. Booking.com have tried to contact the hotel on my behalf and again no reply. please be careful either way this particular hotel - I have stayed in many Mercure & Novotel hotels and never experienced such poor service on the day and especially since the date. Very disappointed.

Reception area was spotless and staff were really friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a good location, it costs between £10-£12 for an Uber to the centre or there’s a bus stop outside. Carpets in all communal areas were badly stained and there were plates and rubbish left outside rooms that were there for a really long time. We had a light out in our bathroom and holes in our bedding. When the people above us used the toilet or shower the noise in our room was really loud! Room was also freezing but they had left a plug in radiator. Food in restaurant was delicious and staff were again, great. Overall, the hotel has a lot of promise if it is cleaned up a bit but I would stay here again

Rooms are fairly nice (premier inn standard), bathroom could do with some cleaning to get rid of the mould and a bit of tlc in general. Reception staff were unfriendly, however bar staff were not. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything and unfortunately if your neighbours are incredibly loud you'll get no help from reception so will have to put up with shouting and screaming and more frustratingly the lack of sleep. I do regret coming here and will not be making that mistake again.

We spent 4 nights here over Christmas with Grand UK Holidays. Coach parties consisted of, mainly, elderly guests many of whom had mobility issues - Zimmer frames, walking sticks, etc. The hotel facilities are totally unsuitable for this type of clientele. All meals, including Christmas Dinner, were self service. Imagine that with a Zimmer frame?! And you had to hunt around for a table - no reservations available (except for Grand UK staff) so groups couldn't sit together. The rooms were lacking storage (see photo) and the lighting poor - just a couple of side lights incapable of lighting the whole room. There was lukewarm, not hot, water in the morning. Management (if you can call it that) was inept and disinterested with the exception of the kitchen staff who did well. Bar staffing was a joke, customers waiting 20 minutes or more for bar staff to appear. And the professional standards were abysmal (see photo)
