Lovely, quaint hotel in the middle of a busy city. The room was clean and spacious, bathroom looked newly renovated. spoke to the lovely lady that owns the hotel, 91 and looking good. The food was not much to write home about. The staff were very helpful.

We stayed at the Fairlawn twice recently. This hotel is an oasis amidst the overcrowded bustle of Kolkata. Our (second floor) rooms were spacious and clean, with newly renovated bathrooms. Avoid the windowless ground floor rooms. The staff are very keen to please. The western breakfast is perfectly adequate but we heard uncomplimentary reports on the dinner menu. The tree-filled... I enjoyed staying at Fairlawn because it was in a great location (Sudder St), the staff were friendly and I had a lovely large, clean room with good airconditioning. I had the pleasure of meeting Voilet who is absolutely charming. The history surrounding the place is fascinating and you should read it before staying there. There is a garden to... More

Why is it that indian stays away from offbeat heritage hotels? this was my second such stay after one in goa and i totally recommend. we were woken up by chirping of birds ...hundreds of them in the heart of city wakable distance from park street and metro.

I chose this hotel because of the whole history of old good hotel and good reviews and was completely disappointed. Our room was big and clean, but definitely wasn't worth 4000 inr (entrance to the room was from the restaurant on the ground floor)!! We had booked 2 nights there for a comfortable stay, but cancelled the second one. Its... More

Staying at this hotel is more than just a bed for the night, it is an experience. The rooms are modest but comfortable, clean and a good size. It is rather like staying in a museum, you could spend a day just looking at the photographs and other memorabilia which adorns the hotel, especially the upstairs sitting room. The staff... More

We had visited the Fairlawn's beer garden for a drink on a previous visit to Kolkata and were lucky enough to get a booking there this time. Don't expect 5 star luxury - you get a decent room at a decent price - but it is a totally different experience. The food is good and fairly priced, the beer garden... More

I didn't get to overnight there but am disappointed about their service: No real online booking, just a form on their website which they didn't even respond to at all, as little as to a consecutive e-mail. When I eventually called them they told me they did receive my mail but were fully booked. Not very professional.

It was an exposure trip for my office staff. A weekend getaway, if i must say. The hotel is hidden behind a thick foliage (a reason behind this) from the road and one enters into this old world charm of colonial architecture complete with lace curtains and flower printed blinds. It's mainly frequent with foreign travelers (not backpackers) but the... More

This was my first trip to India, and I stayed in range of accommodation from B&Bs to 5 star hotels. Although I would place the Fairlawn Hotel in middle market accommodation, it's the sense of Raj history and timelessness that sets it apart from others in its field. This reason alone makes it more than just tempting accommodation, it makes... More
