Hotel Galaxy is a busy backpackers hotel in a great location managed by a group of lovely, attentive elderlies. My partner and I booked 3 nights and stayed on for a fourth, so we were able to stay in two rooms there, and both were like night and day, though the same price. The first one (room A1) was large,...

Stayed here in July. Having never been in India before, this place helped me settle straight in and get adjusted to the craziness to come. Stay here it's a great stay if in Kolkata. Harry is so welcoming. He even drove me to volunteering one day.

As a western traveler, this place is home away from home. Room rates are reasonable (800INR per day for a double non-AC room). Hotel staff is friendly and kind and goes out of their way to make you comfortable. There is a washing machine on-prem that you can pay to use when the owner is around. Do not expect every...

I booked an air-conditioned room, confirmed my booking a week or so before arriving, and when I got there in the late afternoon they took me to a non-aircon room that was shockingly substandard. The manager on duty claimed without apology that they had no aircon rooms left available. However once I kicked up a bit of a stink and...

Despite appearances, this is a clean and comfortable guesthouse in a quiet location. Hari and his staff are helpful and friendly, he even allowed us to store bags with him whilst we went on the Sundarbans trip and again later when we went to the Andaman Islands. Our first room was spacious on the ground floor with a large bathroom...

Location is down a small street, so a little hard to find, but what makes this place is the kind as lovely staff, Harry is always around to help you. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated. For the price this this is perfect, and few more rupees you get A/C too We'll be going back.

I was staying at the Hotel Galaxy during approximately 6 nights. When you travel to India you need to be previously conscious that it is not going to be that comfortable as the occidental life. So this hotel is exactly what you should expect regarding the quality and the price. The price for a non/AC room is 300Rs. per person...

When I spoke in Hindi to someone on the phone to make a booking, I was immediately told there are no rooms. When I ask for the manager and speak in English, they say let me check and then question me about my nationality and which part of India I belong to (probably to discern how 'western' I am). How...

First the situation really gave us the creeps - when we arrived at the hostel at 4 in the night and the gate was locked...the area looked quite bad actually. But after some time of knocking and shouting the door was opened to us. The room was clean and cozy. We felt at home :) The owner was really friendly...
