We absolutely loved Dera Mandawa! When you arrive the owner treats you to tea and a dose of history on his family's home. The rooms are GORGEOUS and spacious. We also loved the open air dining in the courtyard. Breakfast was the best of our trip with traditional porridge and Indian courses as well as eggs to order and toast....

Situated within short walk of the old walled town, this 125-year old Haveli has an interesting royal heritage, yet still has the feel of a family home (albeit a large one). You are greeted by members of the family, and if you choose to dine here in the evening, you will be eating with them in the Courtyard (weather permitting)....

If you are looking for a hotel/home stay with something different, this is it. Styled similar to the Hotel Marigold this is a beautiful old Indian Aristocracy family's Palace still owned run by the family but now as a hotel. It has ample facilities, is clean, comfortable, great wifi, genuine attentive service and a perfect location.

This homestay is hidden away off a noisy bustling main road. It is a tranquil haven offering comfortable accommodation in the extremely spacious rooms. We had a wonderful welcome from the owner who told us a little bit of it's history as a 125 yr old haveli. It could almost be a small Maharajah's palace! We spent three nights here...

What a cracking little place of tranquility in the mist of the madness of Jaipur. We had a wonderful stay, the room was beautiful and bed very comfortable, the food was exceptional as well as the staff serving it. Hair the head waiter was humble and professional but with heart warming kindness in his attitude to us as guests. We...

This is one of the gems in our 31 day trip through India. Massive suite with mezzanine, beautifully prepared and restored. Durga is a superb host and has such attention to detail that rivals the best. All meals were taken in the central courtyard and served by the ever attentive 'Harry' and the rest of the staff who are all...

Dera Mandawa was our favourite place to stay during our trip to Rajasthan. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family. Our room was fabulous, a real taste of haveli living, with traditional features and modern touches. Despite its proximity to a busy main road and close to major sights, as soon as you step through the entrance...

During our travels we have stayed in many different places. Most of them were nice, some of them really nice and a very few are so special that they would justify travelling 16 hours in a plane just to stay over there again. The Dera Mandawa falls in the latter category. A beautiful old palace, with dreamy spacious rooms and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A lesser-known fact about Rajasthani monuments is that rarely were forts, palaces and havelis (large residences) constructed at one go. Each generation added new wings, rooms and arches in an architectural style prevalent during its time. DeraMandawa has also seen such an evolution, as the Mandawa family constantly kept extending the residence over the years. Thakur Durga Singh, the current custodian of DeraMandawa is a keen observer of history, culture, religion, current affairs, and is a bank of knowledge so vast that he has a point of view on anything under the sun. He is what one could call a modern traditionalist, actively seeking the use of modern technology and methods to support the principles of traditional living. The inquisitive can have endless conversations with him on a number of his projects like rain -water harvesting, biogas plant, solar heating and, even, healthy cooking. He would be more than delighted to share his experiences with you. ... more   less
