La Loma is the perfect location to forget your cares and responsibilities. As travellers who try to find accommodations with a kitchen so we can do our own cooking, dining at La Loma was a huge treat. The food is simply divine-- and they go above and beyond for those with dietary concerns. Plenty of ripe fruit, fresh fish and...

...was absolutely enchanting and lovely! I recommend it highly to anyone visiting the Bocas area and I hope we'll be able to return some day to stay overnight. The main kitchen and dining area is in a lovely structure amidst the trees. Lunch from local ingredients was delicious, including the various chocolate dessert treats and the miracle berry - you'll...

I am writing this review mainly to thank Henry and Margaret for the most wonderful two days we spent at their property with our two boys, 5 and 8 years old. Right from the moment I contacted Henry by email, I felt like a friend, not a guest. They both are extremely kind people who were very patient with our...

On a small hillside on Panama's Isla Bastimentos there lies a jungle lodge out of a dream. You won't find any air conditioned villas, seafood buffets or infinity pools here, and you won't miss them. Instead you'll experience a place more connected with the land and more in tune with nature, craft, and community. La Loma Jungle Lodge and Chocolate...

This was our second visit to this special place; a lush jungle location with fabulous food and an attentive staff. The owners, Henry and Margaret go all out to ensure guests have a good time, planning activities and packing lunches for the beach. It's a treat to wake up to the sounds of the birds in a comfy rancho with...

We spent four nights at La Loma in April 2017 and had a tremendous time. It's in the heart of the jungle so the biting insects are real (bring plenty of bug spray!), but this didn't detract from our time at all. Our cabin was lovely with beautifully finished wood, luxurious hammocks, and comfortable beds (not to mention the great...

The short review: La Loma is an amazing experience and well worth the expense and travel required to get there. The longer version: La Loma was recommended to us by a family friend several years ago. We checked on dates in 2016 but discovered that La Loma booked up quickly. Make sure to so plan well in advance, or have...

How do you write a review for such a unique experience. I've often thought that there are two types of vacationers. Tourists and travelers. This is a place for a traveler. Not only will you experience exceptional food, all locally sourced and exquisitely prepared, but you will experience people. The limited Tuesday through Saturday week allows for a true camp...

Every morning we woke up looking at monkeys and sloths in the trees, drinking caffe with muffins that were brought to us early in the morning. Henry and Magret have greated a wonderful relaxing place with many small lovely details. The lunches and dinnerd were very good and...

“Splurge on an ocean view cabin. ”

“We like the top room for the ocean views. However it's a steamy uphill walk from the main lodge.”

“It is the jungle. The bugs could be annoying so you had to make sure to stay on top of ensuring the mosquito coils were burning. Plus there are monkeys, sloths, and lots of birds around. I loved the sounds of the jungle which rang out, in one way or another, all day and night. I say this in order to point out, it is never quiet. La Loma is alive 24/7. La Loma suggested bringing extra money for activities and drinks. I don’t drink but everybody raved about the ever-changing nightly rum based cocktail that was on each night tap. I stuck with kombucha, tea and coffee which were all locally sourced in not made on premises. The final bar bill did not add up to much and the prices were all reasonable. Most of our extra cash went to ‘activities’ which are extra in addition to the cost of room and board. Because the actual number of things you can do at the lodge are limited, it made sense for us to head off the island for different excursions. The items we tackled were pretty standard for what other families there did... *Snorkeling: Lots of fish, nice water, worked out great for several families at the same time. *Trip to Zapatillas Beach: Longer boat ride out to and island with palms, waves, beach and protected cove. Was good way to get to beach and escape the crowds. *Bat cave hike: Interesting but my youngest child hated it. Definitely a physical experience that requires some nimble bouldering and wading through actual bat caves. Not for the claustrophobic, arachnophobic, or mysophobic. *Fishing: We didn’t have a great day but still caught a few fish. It was all handline stuff provided by lodge’s guide. This was a good two hour excursion for our youngest child. *Farm Tour: Interesting background on cacao and how it is grown. Cool demo with beans at the end. Good for older kids and adults. Each of the activities is extra. At the end of the trip the bar bill, activities, and souvenirs totaled up to another $500 for a family of four. Cash was required at the end to settle up but La Loma also takes Venmo, and there is an ATM in Bocas. I went with the Venmo option (I was using one of the ATT Daily Passport phone plana and was able to get connectivity in our cabin, but not in the lodge.) ”

“There are 4 cabins, 3 of which are up in the jungle canopy; the hike is well worth it.”
