We stayed here because it's a good 15-20min walk to and from the FU LU River which hosted the 2015 Taiwan Dragonboat Festival. Our team, composed of 40+ paddlers and around 20 supporters where housed in the Matsu / Mazu Temple. Good location because it was very near convenience stores and market place. Like the previous reviewer, I would not recommend this hotel for more than one night. Although an unusual experience at a convenient location, I would nit advise staying here for more than one night as their bed was unusually hard which makes for poor sleep. The towels were also disposable paper towels that tears if you wipe too hard... But...

This hotel is listed in both Lonely Planet and Rough Guide, although under slightly different names: Lugang Matsu Temple (Pilgrim's Building or Believer Hotel). The two books list 2 other hotels, one more upscale but 10 minutes walk from the tourist stuff, and one even simpler. Good points: cheap ($29 for two), excellent location, hot water, and quiet.
