The hotel is quite sweet. Rooms, basic but clean and spacious. Pool was dirty, never saw anyone clean it during our stay. Gardens, pool area and rooms in general all lack attention to detail. Lights in bedroom were filthy. Lack of WiFi in this day and age not acceptable. Constant music being played which was annoying as all we wanted to do was listen to the birds or our own music through earphones. Food not great, breakfast was ok but the main menu is largely European not done well. Should stick to traditional food and do it properly.
Booked through online and hotel was quite exceptional than what we expected. We have got upstair room which in front of the pool view. Rooms are quite big than normal room size .Room setup & cleanliness is amazing. Bathrooms also quite bigger & enjoyed with jacuuzi .Its exceptional for paying normal amount with jacuzzi. staff is very friendly and always supportive.
Don‘t get unsure about the way there :) from the mainroad it is not far along some forest dust roads and very last bit is very narrow.BUT as soon as you enter through the gate you see this lovely place, quite, nice and clean with a pool :) Our room was clean and comfortable, aircon worked well and the bathroom was big and clean as well. Fantastic breakfast with fresh fruit, egg and toast and coffee.
This resort was one of those resorts where we were left wanting more. My viewpoint is fairly subjective. It's location would be appreciated by recluses. We felt very cutoff and the urban souls in us were feeling anxious. The food was decent and the room were okay but lack of wifi and room phone was surprising in this day and age. The pool and landscape is very pretty in the mornings yet look slightly creepy at night as the resort isn't well lit. The service offered could've been way better. This resort has a lot of potential yet it is not close to peaking on that front. The reviews tend to be a bit sugar coated and the reality is definitely not the same.
We arrived late in the day along a dirt road through what seemed like the middle of the jungle. The hotel was a surprise looking fairly nice. There are a number of two storey units around a nice pool. Without taking a car there does not seem to be much to do in the area. Our room was adequate but a bit shabby with broken glass panes in the clothes cupboard, broken tiles in the bathroom, a tilted shelf in the shower off which shampoo and things would slide. There were lots of plugs for recharging things. The bed was firm but comfortable for my taste. My wife found it too hard. There were a few mosquitoes both in the room and at the restaurant in the early evening. The dinner was fairly good the breakfast choice was pretty skimpy. There were a few large brown bugs in the bathroom harmless I expect but unwelcome. For the price you can do better…
First of all the hotel is really nice, pool is a good size, and clean. Sun loungers are comfy. The breakfast on a morning is delicious, especially liked the selection of fruit & also the omelette. Only hot drinks offered no juice or water which is disappointing. The rooms are very spacious, high ceilings , good A/C and nice shower & bath. Down points are the WIFI just did not work. They said they were having ‘trouble with the connection’ when we arrived and 2 days later still wasn’t working. This made trying to contact our driver, or plan the trip very difficult. Finding places to eat (we like to use TA for reviews) this was a major deal for us, as we book hotels that that WiFi as we rely on our emails & messages to book future arrangements on the go. So if you are like us DO NOT BOOK. No help from desk, just the same thing said everyday asif it was a script. Ants in the room, everywhere. I tried to get rid of a few but it just didn’t happen. When looking around there was small ants nests around, and cobwebs and spiders all over. So the place hadn’t been fully deep cleaned for months. Luckily we have stayed in more open places (wooden huts on the beach) so they didn’t phase us too much. Just would be expect places to be cleaner. The hotel was located down a long dark dirt track, massive pot holes and bumps all the way, which was very difficult for our driver to drive down, and we didn’t really want to be walking down it either... If I stayed in Sigiriya again, I would not book here. There are lots and lots of hotels & home stays to chose from. I would advise to stay somewhere else. …
Beautiful place with nice swimming pool. Only the hammocks not clean. The food really tasty and room clean. Mosquitos problem!! Is important to close all doors and windows if you don't wanna be eaten by them!
The hotel is in a wonderful jungle location, nice pool and rooms However, on the first night I asked for a gin and tonic, no tonic available. I asked for bacardi and coke, no bacardi. Told only gin available, but no mixers. Second day, asked for sri lanka curry, for the evening. Giving more than 5 hours notice. Was told no rice and curry available! 3rd day, ordered a salad, surprise, surprise, no salad. At this point I complained to the office, the manager was on holiday, and then told they has stock problems! Luckily we had a driver and found great local restaurants. Our friends room had a broken TV and safe. We were unable to watch TV as the bill needed to be paid (staff words not mine!) It felt like the staff were slacking off when the manager /owner was not around. On the last day we were offered the chance to order a curry, but we were out all day. Overall, a nice place whilst resting from trips, but facilities not to standard. …
Very friendly and polite staff. We had a room with a view over the little pool. The great news is pool is open until 9pm. Since there weren’t many guests around there wasn’t buffet so we ordered from the menu. They do a stellar job of the fish and chicken curry. My husband had a second helping.. lol... breakfast was quite alright too. Those driving by rental cars - beware your google maps don’t work very poor connectivity so make sure you have the right directions before you set out. The rooms are alright though be mindful that this is in the mid of the forest so carry your repellent along. It’s hidden away from the main road but so much better than the other expensive options there. We loved sigriya rock climbing so if we visit again we are definitely staying at Ekho.
