Helgas Folly is a magical collection of art, history, family treasures and antique furniture. Every inch of every wall and ceiling is adorned with frescos and murals ranging from traditional Sri Lankan images to the amazing Madhatter's Tea Party and the beautiful Jane Lillian Vance Grotto. The webpage states "If expecting a regular hotel experience, best look elsewhere" and this... More

Dear Madam Julie. Thank you so much for taking your valuable time to write your beautiful review, about 'our' home, which it is not only to Madam Helga and her husband, but also to many of us who have been here for many, many decades. Thank you. Always a great pleasure having guests such as you who look beyond the... More

Staying at Helga's Folly is a one-of-a-lifetime experience. Created and meticulously manicured by Madam Helga de Silva, a Sri-Lankan noblewoman descended from a long line of aristocrats, it is the most bizarre, eccentric (both words in their most positive sense) and charming establishment you will encounter in your life. Discreetly tucked away on a small mountain overlooking the Kandyan lake,... More

If Salvadore Dali, Lady Gaga and Antonio Gaudi made a house, it would be this. But luckily for us, Madame Helga has maintained her family residence and made it as interesting as they would have. The massive mansion/chalet has rooms, stairways and hallways painted and decorated differently and therein lies its charm. It's like you've fallen through the Rabbit Hole... More

Dear Madam. Thank you so very much, once again, for your lovely review, and MUCH look forward to welcoming you back as always. You are very much a Folly family member, as you know, and as Madame Helga likes to put it, "daughter of the house"! We are very blessed with many such 'daughters', who are passionate about the house.... More

As a local I have been coming to the Folly for years; it is a favourite haunt of mine and I generally meet up with friends for drinks here. It is not a hotel that everyone might warm to, but it does have its own special, magical ambiance, and if you have the whimsy in you, it is perfect. I... More

The restaurant and the bar are fancy, even the owner might be a very special person, but not the rooms. We wanted to stay two nights, but after sawing the room we decided to leave, even we felt betrayed. The rooms are the money not worth. The furniture and the dekoration are cheap. We booked for 140€, but the room... More

Dear Madam. Just to say perhaps you got mixed up with another hotel, easily done. Our rooms are not carpeted. Our bathtubs cast iron and porcelain, however there are some water marks, where the water come's down from the taps, in the tubs which are being re enameled. Room rate is not correct, unless it was a family room. Sorry... More

Dear Sir. Sorry that your wife did not enjoy her English breakfast or the fresh coffee. Did you complain at the time? If so was nothing done? (- so it says in their description.) We were interested in paying a visit to this infamous hotel & restaurant, as you must be too. We had read the box in the Lonely Planet, saying that "for many it's actually one of the most interesting sites in Kandy". It's not difficult to find, and it's not a very strenuous walk... More

Lonely Planet was wrong. Service was average at best - no food available in the afternoon and we didn't feel welcomed as non-hotel guests, even after the hike up the hill to get there. Reviews said there would be good music, however none was playing.

So very sorry that you had an unpleasant visit to Helgas Folly. It would help us if you could let us know when you came, as I could then take action.
