We went to Kandy town on a few occasion during our stay and we happened upon the Royal Bar and Hotel. It is on a busy street but offers an oasis of calm in the upstairs bar where you climb the stairs taking steps back in time, The photos and posters on the walls evoke feelings of bygone days and...

Nuff said... Person next to me got less head than me, right after I complained about their being too much head. I'm pretty sure it was to spite me. Other than that it was pretty good. We had a nice time.

Nice, quiet comfortable bar upstairs in an old colonial style building overlooking street. Nice drinks and food and reasonably priced. Friendly service. It was not mentioned in travel book, so we were happy to find it.

Old colonial building with a lovely open air courtyard where we had gin and tonics and local beer. The gin was reasonably priced with lots of ice and lemon and tonic on hand. The waiter was really helpful without being overbearing. Really nice for an after dinner drink!

We ate and had drinks here a couple of times while visiting Kandy. It’s an old colonial building, with seating available upstairs that looks down on the busy street. Food and drinks were very good, if a little more expensive than other places, put you’re paying for the ambiance.

The hotel is in a lovely colonial building that has been kept up quite well. However, for the small room (with only one chair so only one of us could sit down at a time) it was overpriced. The restaurant staff was friendly but the food was not very good and overpriced. The "fish and chips" for 1500 rupees was...

This place has a special ambiance; the building has plenty of history, the staff is professional and the people who turn up here are more than worth to have a chat with. I had the chance to get to know the owner, wo is just the kindest guy! Use this place as a door to an alternative universe! ;)

I was accused of "disturbing" some foreign guests who were having a drink a the Royal Pub. Here's what transpired: I, as usual, came to the pub to have a pint (or two) Eventually, I made friends with a few foreigners. the management accused me that i was e g"harassing" the guests. I have been a patron of the establishment...

This place is an old colonial building looks classy.. We ordered 2 fried rice with prawn curry . I have to say food was good. But it wasn't enough at all if ur a local for sure. There portion size is really small. Also one portion was Rs. 1500.00. The cost of that portion would be around Rs.150 max. Also...

First the good - A lovely historic Dutch colonial hotel in a great location for a whistle stop tour of Kandy. Nicely furnished rooms in keeping with the style of the hotel (set around an upstairs galleried area) and bathroom with extra touches and a rainfall shower.. Interesting pictures of old Kandy throughout the hotel, an open air bar and...

“Room 6/7 is a suite on the top floor but bear in mind this is an old colonial building so suite is not large. Bed is a 4 poster, reasonable size but when bedsheets were changed on day 2 they did not fit, which made for an uncomfortable night. This room has A/C and fan. Fan is very noisy. Bathroom has rain shower but is fairly basic & uninspiring with a grubby looking mat by the sink. Beware light suspended above the sink. It is easy to bang your head on it.”

“Take the suite. Be aware that all rooms are accessed via an open atrium, so be ready for a bit of noise from the bar downstairs. Earplugs recommended.”
