We were greeted by a grumpy woman who demanded full payment before we had even seen the room and from that moment it was awful. Filthy mosquito nets with multiple corpses in them, to showers that made you shudder, staff wearing dirty outfits, to breakfast tables that were filthy, cutlery encrusted with old food (we gave up rapidly). A dark...

We had dinner on the old colonial balcony surrounded by amazing glimpses of memorabilia from the Victorian period. All of it is real and genuinely part of the history of the Property. Locals gather in the bar for beers and snacks and a good old chin wag. Magical. There is a Labyrinth of wood paneled rooms each with it's own...

Found via TripAdvisor and really intended just to have drinks, but we're delighted to see a Xmas set menu with grilled barramundi, parsnip and pumpkin soups, followed by Turkey with an excellent stuffing. Good was very good service was excellent.

We went to Kandy town on a few occasion during our stay and we happened upon the Royal Bar and Hotel. It is on a busy street but offers an oasis of calm in the upstairs bar where you climb the stairs taking steps back in time, The photos and posters on the walls evoke feelings of bygone days and...

Nuff said... Person next to me got less head than me, right after I complained about their being too much head. I'm pretty sure it was to spite me. Other than that it was pretty good. We had a nice time.

Nice, quiet comfortable bar upstairs in an old colonial style building overlooking street. Nice drinks and food and reasonably priced. Friendly service. It was not mentioned in travel book, so we were happy to find it.

Old colonial building with a lovely open air courtyard where we had gin and tonics and local beer. The gin was reasonably priced with lots of ice and lemon and tonic on hand. The waiter was really helpful without being overbearing. Really nice for an after dinner drink!

We ate and had drinks here a couple of times while visiting Kandy. It’s an old colonial building, with seating available upstairs that looks down on the busy street. Food and drinks were very good, if a little more expensive than other places, put you’re paying for the ambiance.

The hotel is in a lovely colonial building that has been kept up quite well. However, for the small room (with only one chair so only one of us could sit down at a time) it was overpriced. The restaurant staff was friendly but the food was not very good and overpriced. The "fish and chips" for 1500 rupees was...

This place has a special ambiance; the building has plenty of history, the staff is professional and the people who turn up here are more than worth to have a chat with. I had the chance to get to know the owner, wo is just the kindest guy! Use this place as a door to an alternative universe! ;)

“Room 6/7 is a suite on the top floor but bear in mind this is an old colonial building so suite is not large. Bed is a 4 poster, reasonable size but when bedsheets were changed on day 2 they did not fit, which made for an uncomfortable night. This room has A/C and fan. Fan is very noisy. Bathroom has rain shower but is fairly basic & uninspiring with a grubby looking mat by the sink. Beware light suspended above the sink. It is easy to bang your head on it.”
