Jungle Tide is a British-owned homestay in the Hanthana mountains of central Sri Lanka, away from the tourist spots yet still only forty minutes from Kandy city centre. Wake up to the sound of birdsong and marvelous mountain views. Stroll in the gardens, or take a longer walk in the surrounding hills and tea estates. We are close to the start of the world-renowned Pekoe Trail and can provide you with an experienced guide and naturalist. Swim in the lovely big pool; take a walking tour of the village with Martin, our housekeeper; learn the secrets of Sri Lankan cookery with Rani, our marvelous cook. Play games on the lawn. Or just relax with a book from our extensive library.. All services, bed linen and towels and Wi-Fi are included in the price on a B&B or half board basis, and Martin and Rani will look after you superbly. We recommend a minimum two night stay so you can get the best from Jungle Tide. We are always very happy to help you plan your time both at Jungle Tide and in Sri Lanka, and we know lots of hidden gems the tourist crowds don't visit. We can arrange transport whatever your needs. We spent 2 nights at Jungle Tide and wish we had time to stay longer. What brought us up here was Jerry's book "Broke'n' English", which is a must read!
Sally and Jerry were gracious hosts who cooked up some awesome dishes with the help of Rani who handled the Sri Lankan meals. Specially loved Sally's vegetarian tajine with couscous, Rani's Hoppers and Pol Roti!
The house was clean and tidy, the linen crisp, hot water on tap, the views are amazing and the little village had plenty of walks and things to see, specially the traditional bakery which we visited at 6.15am to buy some food to take on our early morning walk.
Jerry has some suggested walks/ maps which we used to walk over to the next valley.
We skipped lunch on both days as breakfast was filling. But if you do want to have lunch, you can order from Mount Royal or walk up there in 2min.

Jungle Tide is a half hour tuk tuk drive from Kandy. Up in the hills the air is clean and a much more pleasant temperature than Kandy. The bungalow has several bright and airy rooms each with bathroom and veranda space. The house is surrounded by gardens with views across to the Knuckles Range. Sally and Jerry are wonderful hosts and are happy to arrange transport and suggest itineraries. The evening meals vary between western and Sri Lankan cuisine and all delicious. I fully recommend Jungle Tide as a starting point from which to explore central Sri Lanka.

We were a group of 5 persons and stayed 3 nights. Our hosts Sally and Gerry were very welcoming and kept us entertained. The food was a mix of European and Sri Lankan. The cook is a star. We took 3 rooms and which were very comfortable. There are doors out to the veranda from each room overlooking the garden where you can see up to 40+ bird species. It was lovey to sit out on the veranda for early morning coffee or having drinks before dinner in the evening.
Their 2 dogs accompanied us on our daily walks. They seemed to have sensed which turn we would take and waited patiently until we actually took the turn. Then they would run ahead of us until we got to the next turn. Gerry gave us detailed directions for our different daily walks.
We all had a very relaxing 3 days and I look forward to my next stay.

We stayed at Jungle Tide in February 2020 and we are still closing our eyes and remembering the beautiful views and serenity of this lovely swap! First of all, I would like to highlight the kindness and generosity of Sally and Jerry. They are amazing hosts and will do everything to make sure you are happy with your stay. They will make sure all meals and activities you would like to do are organised and Rani (their help) cooked some delicious dishes! From Sri-Lankan typical curries, coconut pancakes, Sally's typical English Roast and tasty puddings to Jerry's lovely barbecues! Though it is about 30 mns from Kandy town, we thoroughly enjoyed our Tuk Tuk ride down the hill with the children. Jungle Tide was perfect to come out of the busy town and chill on the wrapped around terrace, reading a book, looking at birds, playing board games. On the BBQ night, we also saw some magical fireflies! Thank you Sally and Jerry!

I was exhausted with heat and travelling when I arrived at Jungle Tide. But the ease, comfort and warm welcome extended by Sally and Jerry revived me immediately. Our spacious room opened on to a generous veranda with a breathtaking view of the mountains. The excellent meals, both western and Sri Lankan, were served in an informal family manner at once sociable and professional. Our charming hosts were entertaining and informative, and their hillside retreat a a jewel of relaxed good taste. Jungle Tide is a truly original spot created with love and commitment. I was sorry to leave, and hope to return.

Sally and Jerry were very nice and careful hosts during our stay in Sri Lanka. We were a big group of 18 people in total (four families including 10 children). Sally and Jerry made everything they could to make us feel at home. They cooked themselves amazing meals for us and shared discussions with us while keeping not intrusive. The villa is beautiful with a wonderful view on the surrounding mountains. The three nights we spent there were delightful and we warmly recommend this accomodation to any family or bigger group.

I have been to Jungle Tide on several occasions: with colleagues as a break from work in Kandy, with my husband on holiday, and with a group of friends for a delicious home cooked lunch . The atmosphere is a cosy, family home but with wonderful stylish, modern bed rooms and bathrooms and great Sri Lankan or western food. Jungle Tide is in the middle of tea plantations: walk through tea bushes or just sit and relax in the garden or by the pool. The welcome from Sally and Gerry(or Rani and Martin) is warm and friendly staying at Jungle Tide is excellent value for money. I love staying here because its stylish but comfortable , friendly , good food and great value. Thank you Sally and Gerry

I came to Jungle Tide in Hanthana mainly do my bird photography. This is an amazing place for bird lovers as it blends with both Wet zone and dry zone Aves. Yello yeared bulbul became my fav till I depart JT. Also i spoted many species including Sri Lanka White Eye (Endemic) followed by some other endemics as SL Jungle Fowl, SL Grey Hornbill, Brown Capped Babbler, black capped bulbul. This place is really unique with surrounded mountains. Also they have a track made for bird watching. Rooms are really cleaned, comfortable and spacious. Food is made to local cuisines and it is very tasty. Sally and Gerry are the owners of the place which offers you a dedicated service filled with unexplainable hospitality till you leave. Any one looking for a place to board, I recommend the Jungle Tide for you to experience.

We loved our stay at Jungle Tide. The room was very comfortable with lovely French doors opening into the verandah, which looked over the gardens and views to Kandy. It’s a fair way out of Kandy but very peaceful and cool. Rani cooked us fabulous food, I would recommend if you stay here to take half board because there are few restaurants nearby. The common lounge and dining area is lovely and there are loads of books and games to keep you busy. The gardens are lovely and we enjoyed a swim in the lovely clean pool. Highly recommended.

We recently stayed at Jungle Tide in Sri Lanka and had an amazing experience. The hosts, Jerry and Sally, were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Communication before our trip was outstanding and they even helped us book a taxi for our travels. Our family of four, including two kids, had a wonderful time and everything went smoothly. The accommodation is stunning and the nature surrounding it is breathtaking. I highly recommend Jungle Tide to anyone visiting Sri Lanka.
