A fairly basic 3 star lodging - rooms are reasonable size and beds not too bad. An extra towel would have been very much appreciated - 1 for both hand and bath not really sufficient. Breakfast was good with a great choice and the waiters both at breakfast and dinner were very attentive and well drilled in their art.

This hotel seems to be the hotel of choice for tour groups. It is fantastic too. A free dinner and breakfast was included and, given the tightness of our schedule, we took advantage of both which were excellent. It's a great location within walking distance of the city and an excellent base to retire to at the end of a...

We stayed here for one night on a tour of Srilanka Can't comment on hotel cost as this was included in the tour package, but we found the amenities at the hotel very good. There is a pool which looked good but we didn't have time during our stay to use it Room was clean, had satellite TV and large...

Rooms just about fit two people. Not much moving space around the bed. Bathrooms are tiny. Although good balcony space outside the room. Food just about fine, if you are looking for Indian food. Not much options available. Had ordered for Veg pizza and the guys served with cut chicken slices. Bad dinner experience of in room dining. Over priced....

The hotel was a great place to relax after a long day of cycling. The pool, albeit it very shallow, was welcoming and the staff were friendly. The food was good and the rooms were clean & comfortable. The hotel is over many floors and a bit of a rabbit warren so you need to be good on your feet...

Stayed here for 2 nights. Not directly in the city center of Kandy but easy to reach in 10 minutes by tuk-tuk. Nice location in the hills. Rooms were compact but clean and modern. Very good restaurant with great choice in food. Good service.

At first, the hotel looks nice. The room too but the shower was leaking and this was leaving water everywhere. The food was good in general but the dining room is rather small so you may have to wait to be seated. The views from the dining room are great

Avoid the rooms 518, 519, 520 and 521. They are located directly under the dinner area, which is on the top of the building. The live music is obviously very loud into the rooms. And then you ear very clearly the noise of the cleaning staff until midnight.

This is an excellent, clean hotel with very friendly staff. It is a healthy walk (or easy tuk-tuk drive) up the hill above the lake to the hotel, but you will be rewarded with beautiful views from the well-run restaurant. Wi-fi works well too.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Serene Garden Hotel is situated within walking distance of the city centre and overlooking the serene Kandy Lake. Above all these things, something unique about Serene Garden Hotel: its ambience is serene and the experience blends with the unique enchantment that Kandy serenely weaves in the mind of the foreign traveller, as it has done for centuries. From Serene Garden Hotel, it is walking distance to the Dalada Maligawa (The Temple of the Tooth) across the road from the Kandy Lake. This hallowed temple is synonymous with the historic hill capital of Kandy; it is where the tooth relic of the Buddha is enshrined, enduring symbol of a nation’s sovereignty. ... more   less
