This was the first hotel we stayed in during our 2 week tour of Sri Lanka. We spent 4 nights here and visited the Caves at Dambulla, visited Polonnaruwa, climbed the Ancient Rock Fortress at Sigiriya and went on an elephant safari. All within comfortable driving distance of the hotel. We stayed in a deluxe room on the first floor. The room was well appointed, with en-suite, balcony with views, king size bed with mosquito net and air conditioning. On the first night we were the only guests which made the place even more magical. We had breakfast & dinner at the hotel. The food was of a high standard, well presented & delicious. We were required to order dinner at breakfast but this didn’t bother us. Each night there was a rice & curry option and one other main choice. Food was served outside alongside the pool where there was a glorious breeze. The staff were attentive but unobtrusive and spoke good English. The pool was well maintenance & perfect for a dip after a busy day of sightseeing. Complimentary drinks & nibbles were served around 5pm an thoughtful touch. The owner was helpful & always around should you need him. We loved our time here & would love to return.…
I had a great stay at the hotel, Michel, the owner is charming and provides the personal touch for his guests. The location is terrific, the room is large with a nice balcony, the pool was lovely and food at the hotel is very good. Michel also arranged tours and a car for transfers for me that were excellent. I highly recommend the hotel.
We will always remember Michelle and the other friendly people working at Lake Lodge. We had a wonderful time and everything we needed was provided in the room. The food was excellent and eating out beside the pool was a lovely experience. perfect in every way.
We had an amazing three night stay at the hotel. Rooms were clean and well presented and the staff were incredible. Food was out of this world and just kept getting better. Really good place to stay for the national parks and Sigiriya. Would highly recommend and happily go back again. Brilliant!!
I brought my family (husband and four kids ages 15, 13, 10 and 8) to Sri Lanka last week and we had the good fortune to spend two nights at Lake Lodge. We stayed at variety of hotels during our two week trip and they were all very different - ranging from luxury tree houses to small b&bs, villas and large smart resorts. On balance, this was probably our favourite. It's a wonderful place. Calm, beautiful with lovely rooms and a stunning 23m swimming pool. The location is perfect for visiting Sigiriya and the cave temples at Dambulla and only an hour or so from Polonnaruwa so it's a great place to base yourself for these sights. The manager, Michel, is lovely and runs the place with a passion and care. Both he and the staff are so friendly and approachable and worked very hard ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. On one occasion we were sitting by the pool and the barman brought us complimentary drinks and snacks, which was a lovely touch. The hotel has a very elegant and exclusive feel to it, which is not always compatible with a young family, but the staff were lovely wth the kids and we were made to feel very welcome. The attention to detail is clear in the impeccable finish - Michel evidently runs a tight ship. Everything works well and is very clean and tidy. The food was fabulous. Breakfast was very good. Dinner is pricey by Sri Lankan standards, but it was really worth eating here as a treat and the views from the dining area towards the lake were lovely. Lake Lodge offers similar standards and facilities as some of the smart 5* resorts in the area, but with just 12 rooms the feel is so much more exclusive and intimate. I guess it's down to personal taste, but this would be my choice every time. I'd love to come back one day. Many thanks indeed for a wonderful stay.…
