My girlfriend and I just wrapped up two nights and three days at the mSp hotel in Dambulla. It’s location is in contrast with the busy city center in a beautiful and peaceful scenery right on the Kalundewa lake. 10 minutes away by Tuk Tuk ride from the city center, you are not too far from the main restaurants and markets but not too close either because of the hustle and bustle and loud noises that comes with a Sri Lankan down town. It is the ideal location. As for the main sites, it is 20 minutes away from Sigiraya, the main attraction and if don’t have a driver you can arrange for one to take you there early (avoid other tourists). Now about the hotel, as you arrive you see this spacious peace of land an actual cricket field, perfect for the little ones to run around and play. There is also and pool with a view onto the beautiful Kalundewa lake but caution as there are crocodiles 🐊 so if I were you, I would stick to the pool 😊 (just kidding, they don’t let you swim in the lake). The rooms are simple and nice and every single one has a view onto the lake which is a huge plus. There is also a restaurant within the resort with the lovely waiters that serves delicious local food. This is a hotel that can accommodate anyone from a couple to a family and is composed of the kindest staff that you could find, definitely would go back.

The place was very large. however the pool was dirty and very unclean. The rooms were very uncomfortable with thin mattreses and one thin pillow for each bed. we barely got any sleep THE TOILET WAS A DISASTER BECAUSE THE SHOWER DID NOT WORK, THE WHOLE SHOWER SYSTEM WAS BROKEN this place needs to be renovated. Food was the only consolation since it was tasty!

When you arrive at MPS village you immediately realise that you have arrived at a place where owners have placed emphasis on looking after the beautiful natural environment into which the lakefront houses have been placed. The man made lake and scenic mountain backdrop are soothing and simply magic and all cabins and rooms are facing this view. Dinner and breakfast was lovely, staff outstanding and after two nights I still wished I did not have to leave.. If you rise early and sit on that little bench, you will know what I mean.

Clean rooms with good A/C NOT directly over the beds! Willing staff; ie happy to provide extra towel per guest for use by pool, in addition to shower towels. Early morning tea arrived on time. Good situation for access to Kaudullah national Park which is excellent for herds of elephant and stunning for birds of prey. Sunday buffet-style breakfast offered variety of cooked breakfasts, cooked while you watched. Delicious banana fritters and ice-cream dessert. Chef with good English who understood strict dietary requirment for no onion, garlic, gluten or dairy in dhal, sauces for chicken mild curry and omelletes. (only place one of our party was able to risk and ENJOY a chicken curry as result of this chef.

I was really disappointed by the services of this hotel. The scenery is nice, the hotel is situated near a lake in the middle of nature. First of all, when we arrived we had to search for the receptionist. We had dinner at the hotel that night, we asked if the food was fresh, finally we realized they have only frozen food. You can not find real authentic food here. Service is a incredibly slow...we had to wait 30 minutes for our beverages. The dining area is very dirty, like it hasn’t been cleaned in years. Thé room was ok, but honestly it is the first hotel where I have been and didn’t find any shower gel or shampoo, this is completely unnaceptable. Pool is dirty and full of dead insects. They started cleaning it only when some more tourists arrived. All in all, I think the hotel has a lot of potential, but is very poorly managed, which is a shame.
