I had a bit of a mixed experience at the Hacienda Merida. Here's a tale of the good and not so good. My ground floor private room was small and sweet with a mozzie net, and had a nicely done en-suite bathroom. It was good value for the money. The downside: the bathroom bin (where you put your toilet paper...

Ok place that offers some activities and view over the lake and the sunset. The rooms upstairs are rustic but nice, with cold shower. It was Lonely Planet´s top choice but we were a little disappointed; it didn´t feel unique and worth the hassle, as presented in the review. The service was not very good, the staff undedicated and unpersonal....

I had originally planned on staying 4 nights here and that was way too much, after two days I changed hotels. There wasn't a lot to do in the area other than hike or bike. It takes at least 1.5 hours from the hotel to go to Ojos de agua and the beach. You can kayak or rent a scooter...

Hacienda Merida will remain one of my fondest memories of Nicaragua. We are a family of four with two teenage girls and everything I read about the hacienda appealed to me from the location and reviews to their community mission. However, the "private dorm room for four" was not one of them. I was so wrong - the room was...

The floor level double bed room was clean and a good price. $25 for a night. We had our own bathroom. New ish place. The wifi was only accessible in the common area. The all u can eat buffet was decent food but slightly overpriced $6-8 for what it was (compared to right up the road which charged you regular...

We loved everything about this place. Gorgeous views, excellent food, lovely staff and a philosophy of sustainability and community support. If you need 3 star accommodations stay away. For those more laid back you will be richly rewarded. Though rustic, it is clean and comfortable. Because there was no room available we stayed in a two person tent by the...

Stayed 4 nights, upstairs lake view. The tents had real mattresses and lakefront location. Quiet, peaceful. Excellent food and coffee. It's a destination. Met wonderful eclectic, socially conscious travelers in lovely palpable eating area, with all you can eat buffet breakfast and dinner. ($5/$8, including beverage). Budget travelers could eat their own food, but not use kitchen. Owner Alvaro Molina...

This was a great little spot in ometepe. Originally booked the 2nd floor for myself and Bf thinking we would get the gorgeous view of the volcano and deck with hammocks- but it was actually on the other side with no room or deck. So we switched to the same room downstairs for $10 cheaper! Good buffet dinners included, fresh...

Had a room in the front upstairs with the best view. Sunset is gorgeous. Great variety of food, lots vege options and coconut ice cream. Mmm. Room had flowers on the bed and nicely arranged towels. Huge hammock. Nice communal and eating area. Staff ultra helpful org tours and taxis etc. Though some processes would speed things up and save...

Been to a lot of hostels in this big wide world, Hacienda Merida is one of the best. Obviously not right in the middle of town, but that was kind of the point Have a damn coconut banana batido and find yourself a hammock. Nice and remote
