The Blue Pearl Chefchaouen: the blue pearl of the Moroccan Rif. At 600 meters altitude, the city is located at the foot of the high mounts Kelaa and Meggou which protect it. Now renowned for its blue-painted whitewashed houses, Chefchaouen is an unusual place where tourists from all over the world come to enjoy an exceptional quality of life where calm, serenity and spirituality reign. It is a city out of time, where the rhythm of the days is organized around the majestic calls to prayer, which resonate in the mountains Our Hotel The heart of the old medina is the main square of Outa El Hammam. 50 meters from this square where hotel Dar Mounir is located whose entry is remarkable for its large blue door Arab-Andalusian style. Our hotel is located in the former home of a famous Judge Chaouni and is today a family institution, since we are three brothers to manage it. It is in 2007 that the establishment opens its doors after difficult work, due in particular to the geographical situation of Chefchaouen which makes it painful the routing of materials and furnishings into the medina.. The hotel is organized, like many Moroccan houses, around a central well of light. The public areas consist of two lounges, one large, where you will like to relax by the fireplace in the winter and a smaller one near the entrance. The terrace offers panoramic views of the medina and the mountains, and is sunny all day. If the need for shade is felt, you can also bask on the banquettes in the shelter of our khaima (traditional Moroccan tent) where our clients love to have their breakfasts.

Rooms were absolutely tiny with bathroom that had a miniature shower/toilet in the bathroom. Barely any space to even shower. Was shocked to see that there was a window in the bathroom that opened out onto the common area...yet wouldn't lock. Breakfast was ok....but had to wait for a while until ready. Made me feel that you have to adhere to the rules of the hotel rather than the hotel catering to the needs of the guests.

Centrally located Riad in Chef, with simple but nice rooms. Would stay here again if we visit Chef again! The rooms are simply decorated and most of the common areas and terrace go unused, but we enjoyed having a home base to go back to. During the day I think they have a single person working the front desk, but honestly Chef isn't the city you want nor need impeccable service. Save those expectations and desires for Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier!

We were greeted by the hotel staff on arrival who assisted us with our luggage. On entering the reception area you are immersed into the Berber culture. The rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean. Breakfast was also enjoyable with an array of Moroccan treats to tantalize the tastebuds. A quick 2min walk has you in the main square of the Medina. Highly recommended.

As part of an Intrepid trip we had the privilege to spend a night in this unique and quirky placebased right in the middle of the Medina - literally steps away from the entree central square. This means no car access and a bit of walking, but through the hotel a baggage pickup can be arranged. The Riad features extensive decoration in the Arabian local style, with each room different from each other. We were in the third floor so afairbit of narrow stair climbing was involved, but again the friendly staff helped with the lugging of bags. There is a lovely rooftop terrace with good views all around. Breakfast was plentiful and included a good range of dishes. But the main point of difference was the friendliness of staff, with big smiles and very good English knowledge.
