Just stayed for one night before we went on a tour. Cheap but clean with good facilities and helpful friendly staff in the middle of Sandakan. No issues with the hostel but if you can avoid staying in Sandakan I would as it's not much to talk about, better staying in Sepilok if you can.

We've been traveling for 3months now around south east Asia and Borneo sandakan backpackers is by far the best hostel we've stayed in. The area is perfect, The place is very clean, the staff very friendly, the price is low and you quickly feel at home. The staff prepares your breakfast in the morning ( or you can prepare it...

Amazing value for money. Really friendly and helpful hosts. Super clean and loved that they cooked eggs for breakfast for us, irrespective of the time we came down. Air conditioned spacious room. Toilets and showers clean.

My friend and I stayed here twice, each time for one night. This hostel is conveniently located not far from the sea and also from a shopping mall where you can get almost everything you might need. The rooms, the toilets/showers and also the entire building were very clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful.

If I HAD to return to this city, I would stay here again. Very clean & affordable rooms, staff were very friendly and helpful. We also booked some tours through them in-house, as we trusted them. Sandakan itself is not a place I would return to, with nothing to offer but the obligatory Borneo wildlife tours which I'm sure can...

The staff were wonderful and helpful. They went out of their way to help my friend and I. The hostel was clean and had a nice common area to socialize with the other guests. The location was one street from the ocean and close to many restaurants.

The Backpacker is really clean and got an extremely friendly staff. The staff speaks very good english and loves to help you, if you have any questions about directions and the area. Rooms and Bathrooms are really clean. Beds might be a littlebit to short, if you're a big person. There's access to unlimited tea and coffee in the lobby...

We stayed over night before travelling to sepilok the next day. The staff were amazing- really welcoming and helpful and the hostel itself was very clean and comfortable. We didn't see much of Sandakan itself as it was just a stopover for us but if you are going I would definitely recommend staying here!

I stayed here for just one night in early October but the staff (especially Difi) could not have been more helpful with organising tours, giving directions & tips. There was no problem checking in early, leaving bags while on a 3 day trip & using the hostel as a base on our return, before leaving later that night. The rooms...
