We had lunch here on the penultimate day of our trip to Kenya before travelling to stay at the Ark Lodge. The surroundings are breath-taking and the food fantastic. I'd certainly recommend spending a couple of hours here to relax before moving onto the Ark

Hi guys, Beautiful garden, a lot of animals in the garden. Warthogs, zebra's, bushboks. If you are a birder, then there is a lot for you to spot. Fire finch, waxbill, white browed sparrow weaver, robin chat. The rooms have an open fire place. So the first thing you do, when you enter you room: open the windows. The fire...

This was the first stop on our safari and was perfect for those who had just arrived in Kenya the previous night. Our room was half of a small building sharing a huge fireplace, up on the hillside. It was quiet, and they lit the fire for us at night as there is no heat here. It was charming! We...

We spent two nights at the Country Club then one night at the ARK. We were looking for a place to relax and enjoy just being with our friends who live in Kijabe. It proved to be the perfect spot. It is a very relaxing location. We enjoyed swimming in the heated swimming pool while watching the peacock and bushbuck...

Rooms are nice--some with Fireplace --can get cool at nights. Food is good and good service and can see some animals from your location. Some right on 9-home golf course. Went with family and was good to have rooms next to each other. More of relaxing and enjoy views type place. Not full of activities--though one can schedule game drives...

We've been visiting here for over 36 years. The service, setting, scenic views, and facilities are wonderful. We are members at the club and come here several times a year. The food is average, but acceptable. Tourists can be a bit overwhelming. But that is not the fault of the club. Heated pool, golf course, sauna/spa, all very nice indeed....

Gosh, how I want this place to be wonderful but it just isn't. Amazing views and gardens and it should be a beautiful piece of old Africa - full of memorabilia and yet comfortable and luxurious. Instead of which, it has that jaded, faded, "government run" feeling - lack lustre rooms, tiny and rather grotty bathrooms, and rather bland and...

What a start to our two week Safari! From the moment we arrived, I was blown away by the setting, landscaping, food and animals nearby. Highlight was a horseback ride to the Plains where we were surrounded by Giraffes, Zebras, Whart Hogs, Gazelles! What a start to an amazing two weeks in Kenya on the Plains!

The service you receive at aberdare country club makes you feel really at home. Everyone went out of their way to make us very comfortable. The food was great with a good variety. The rooms are old (I guess that's the concept) but very clean and well maintained. The bathrooms however are very modern. Great location except for the road...

We visited this venue to check into its sister venue Ark Lodge in Aberdare NP. We had lunch while waiting for the transfer bus and were we glad we did! It was excellent with fantastic service!! This is basically a golf course and it put many of its UK brethren to shame over the quality of buffet food on offer!...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Aberdare Country Club, only a three-hour drive northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was selected by an English couple who had decided to settle in the land of their choosing - Kenya. It all happened many years ago; their children grew up there, but then moved on to different places. After almost half a century, their home, "The Steep", was sold and re-named "The Aberdare Country Club". Even though the property was developed beyond the imaginings of the original owners, they would be pleased with how carefully it has been nurtured and the grandeur it has maintained. This is highlighted in Monty Brown's book, "Haven Under the Hill" which says: "Today, despite the fast-changing tempo of the outside world, the old home still retains that comfortable, solid feeling based on traditions from a time when life proceeded at a far more leisurely and gentle pace". The Club's 1,300 acre wildlife sanctuary is teeming with eland, impalas, zebras, giraffes and the more reclusive leopards. It is a haven of unhurried charm set in a garden bursting with a profusion of colour, and with peacocks living within the lush green lawns. Walking through this unspoiled terrain is paradise. Play a round of golf, watched by a family of warthog, or fish for trout, play tennis or just relax by the pool within the beautiful gardens. From here you can see the sunset with the stunning Aberdare Mountains as a backdrop. ... more   less
