My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dragon Boat Rock Homestay. The rooms which are plain and simple and really good sized are based in bungalows surrounded by beautiful, lush gardens and each with its own verandah for relaxing. There are plenty of bicycles to borrow for free and Trang An and its boats are a nice forty minute cycle. Breakfast is really plentiful with lots of local fruits, bread, local specialities and really good coffee. There is a communal dinner for only £4 per person which provides lots of delicious Vietnamese dishes and local rice. Sabine is an excellent hostess and it was really interesting to talk to her about life in Vietnam and her knowledge of the area. She was also very good at organising transport around the area. Overall, one of the nicest homestays that I have stayed in.

Travelling solo and stayed in DBR that run by a friendly and helpful German Lady, Sabine (and her 6 lovely doggies!) for 3 days. I really like the breakfast and dinner provided. The breakfast was simple but it was just so tasty! The dinner (5 dishes) is cooked by the local Vietnamese lady and just don't bother to look for dinner on the street, I would love to back to the homestay and have a 'round table' dinner with all of the travellers who stayed during the same period! I was meeting new friends everyday and yes, we also travel together to explore the beautiful Ninh Binh by chance and with the super useful travel tips from Sabine! It was so much fun and I won't forget this place and all lovely people that I met during my visit. This place has beautified my solo journey.

Visited Ninh Binh with my girlfriend and some mates. We booked at Dragon Boat and they booked elsewhere. After they had a crap first night at their hotel and we told the very friendly and accommodating owner of our place, our host went out of her way to get our friends a room at Dragon Boat. A really nice and unexpected gesture. The rooms at Dragon Boat are great and tastefully-decorated. Mattresses are of Western standard; not break-your-back Vietnamese. Mozzi nets are a necessity as the place is smack bang in the middle of a few ponds. And Ninh Binh mozzies are no joke. The owner made us feel incredibly welcome and provided tons of helpful info about the area which made our trip more special. The meals are tasty, affordable and served in a communal setting which lends itself to getting friendly with other guests and staff. Motorbikes are available on site for about $5/day and bicycles are free. Highly recommend staying here and will be back myself.

We stayed at Sabine's beautiful homestay for two nights in one of the nice and quiet bungalows. She had so much suggestions for activities and helped us with everything, like renting a scooter.
The breakfast is amazing and so is the dinner!

We had a relaxing time at this peaceful and atmospheric homestay. Sabine was a great host - offered great advice and helped with transport arrangements. The rooms/cabins were spacious and clean. The gardens are beautiful. A terrific array of choices for breakfast. Dinner is available on request. We would definitely recommend Dragon Boat Rock!

One of the best homestays,I've ever visited! Sabine, the German owner, provides excellent service and helps you with all problems. The rooms have air con and are very clean. The breakfast is extraordinary. This is a peaceful retreat, where you can escape from the stress of your daily life. A hidden gem!

I stayed here at the recommendation of a friend from Sapa and I'm so glad I did! Each bungalow is designed differently and I found the homestay to be welcoming and artistic. It was really cold when I stayed but they provided a warm campfire and space heater as well as many blankets. They have free bicycles, and motorbikes that you can rent to check out Tra Ang and Tam Coc. I love the feel of this place and will definitely be back.

We had such a great time at Dragon Boat Rock. The place was a nice escape from the craziness of Hanoi. The grounds were beautiful and it felt like we got a nice experience of rural life in Vietnam. The room itself was comfortable and clean. The first day we did a nice loop on bikes to Trang An. The second day we rented motor bikes and got down to Tam Coc. And the third day we took a taxi out to Cuc Phuong National Park. Each night we decided to have dinner at DBR, and that was one of the highlights—the food was great and Sabine and all the guests ate at the same table which facilitated interesting conversations. The place was also nice for our 10 year old who really liked the dogs. All in all, Sabine and her team made us feel at home and we highly recommend DBR! Muchas gracias!

Dragon Boat Rock is excellently situated for exploring in Ninh Binh. It is close to Trang An where we enjoyed a boat trip in the waterways among the granite casts. We also took a visit to Van Long nature reserve where,at dusk, we were lucky enough to see critically endangered langur monkeys scrambling in the rocks above us.
The home-stay has push bikes and mopeds available to rent for a small fee and this was great for getting out and about to explore the area.
We loved the funky decor in the bungalows. The accommodation is very nice and the gardens and setting very beautiful. Food was plentiful, freshly cooked and tasty.
There is an honesty bar for beers and soft drinks at small prices and free wi-fi is available throughout.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
