This is our second visit to Koh Tao and our second stay at Mountain Reef Resort. It is excellent just like we remembered it. Their location is excellent on Tanote Bay directly on the beach. The snorkeling in Tanote Bay is excellent. Many fish and healthy coral. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Big exterior deck. Nice comfy king size bed, hot shower, cold AC, fast internet, refrigerator, safe, and plenty of space to store your things. They give you water each day and they supply shampoo and body wash. The restaurant is excellent. Both the breakfast and the dinners are excellent. The menu for both is ala carte and there is plenty to choose from. They have a wide variety of drinks, juice, shakes, water, coffee, tea, and soda. These can be enjoyed all day for a small price. They rent snorkel gest if you don't have your own. I'm sure they serve alcohol. We don't drink. They have an ice cream case with many tasty selections. The staff is excellent. They are so friendly and will do anything to help you. Thank you Kim for your service. They can arrange pickup and drop-off to the pier. They can arrange whole island snorkeling tips for a very reasonable price. We stayed 5 nights. The time flew by. Thank you. We hope to see you again.

We spent a lovely week with our 2 kids at Mountain Reef Beach Resort. Tanote Bay is beautiful, with great snorkeling right at your doorstep. We had the beach front family bungalow (fan), very clean, spacious, nicely designed, with 2 large beds with mosquito nets, a fancy bathroom and a fridge. The owner Cho is very friendly and helpful! Breakfast is very tasty! A couple of nice restaurants on the beach cater for everything you need. We‘d always come back!

Very hilly descent to the hotel but well worth it! Lovely spacious rooms, powerful shower and very kind and friendly staff.

Right on the beach, this is an excellent location for snorkelling. The fish are often less than a metre from the shore so great for families too. So many different types of fish of all colours and sizes. Best we saw in Thailand.

Hotel food lovely but restaurant lacking a little atmosphere. We are ate at Lai beach bar on the beach for most meals.

The overall a great place to stay for the best snorkelling (better than Shark Bay).

We stayed for two nights in a family room with sea-view. It was a light, spacey room with a lovely balcony and a stunning view. The snorkeling from the beach didn't disappoint - lots of colourful fish from the moment we stepped in. The hotel had a restaurant with lovely food, and there were other great options to walk to - everywhere had a nice vibe. All in all, a wonderful, relaxing quiet place which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

Wonderful place. Spacious family bungalow right on the beach, literally 5 m from the ocean. Friendly staff.
Tanote is a nice bay to chill and snorkel for a week. After peak season its one of the most secluded beaches on the island. We love it here!

With its unspoilt coral and laid back feel, Tanote bay is the very best location on the whole island.
We stayed here in 2 aircon rooms with our 3 kids aged 7, 10 and 12. Everyone loved it! Our hosts were a very welcoming and accommodating family, and their kids made friends with ours, spending many happy hours playing in the water and jumping off rocks.
The main highlight was the truly amazing snorkelling, with colourful coral, teeming with diverse sea life just a meter from the water's edge. Look out for the little crabs that climb up the rocks - our daughter watched them for hours.
Our hostess was very friendly, helpful and kind to the children, teaching them how to open up a coconut so they could drink and eat the contents.
The rooms were clean and seemed to be newly refurbished and the restaurant was great with a choice of floor or chair seating and a range of food to suit everyone. We recommend the coconut lassi and the masaman curry.
If you're brave/reckless, swim out to the big rock so you can jump off. The climb up (using a frayed rope for support) is far more scary than the jump.
The hotel has a small boat, so we took a day trip to visit some of the other beaches around the island. It was a great day out with a nice packed lunch provided by our hosts. You will find, however that your own beach - Tanote bay - is the best that Koh Tao has to offer.

Small hotel with unique spot managed by Thai family. Price is not cheap. View is superb, beach was right there in front of us. Food at the restaurant is like homemade and prices are correct. Staff is friendly. We went there for snorkling. Good spot but we were unlucky due to the storm. The boat ride to reach Koh Tao was rough. Great place. We should go again. :-)

The owner who accept the guest is fantastic, kind and sweet. the room was fantastic: very big, with two enormous king beds and a bathroom with stone and wood floor!! it was the boungalow in front (really) of the sea...just 20 metres from the reef. the breakfast was very good and with a big selection... bread with nutella was a dream for the kids after two week of thai food!! the restaurant was also very good.

My family of 5, including 3 teenage girls stayed here for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had the new rooms with aircon and the were very large, spotlessly clean, decorated to a high standard and had a great view.
The food was delicious- some of the best we had in Thailand and service was always with a smile. The sea was crystal clear and teeming with life. It was fascinating to watch people jumping off the big rock opposite and we did consider having a go but couldn't even climb it :)
It would have been better if there were some sunbeds to lounge about on, a couple of days we took a taxi to Haad Tien for more of a resort feel but the water and fish life wasnt as good. I found it expensive getting around as a family (500bht per person each way no matter where you wanted to go) and we got taxis really easily from the hotel next door which also served great food.
I would stay here again for the quality of rooms, great service and amazing location.

We stayed at Montalay resort down the beach. I think they sent our laundry to town and we got it back the next day.
