Had a brilliant 4 night stay at Anankhira villas. The villa has everything you need to completely switch off. Special thanks to the amazing owner (Jayne) and manager (Kit), both went out of their way to make our stay superb. We had recommendations for where to eat and what to do, we even had help to arrange an island snorkelling tour.

I would definitely recommend and the next time I am in Koh Tao we will return.

Everything worked as expected in the Villa, no issues to report, the outside area had replenished coffee and water daily, you can purchase beer and sodas from reception.

The pool kept us cool all day and was cleaned daily.

As a reminder, the villas are approximately 10 minutes walk from Sairee, the location is definitely away from the crowds, as you are in a sub tropical paradise you will have to expect lots of insects and gecko’s, the Villa is equipped with moscato repellents which helped as did the mosquito net over the bed.

Thanks to all of the team

Looking for a great, private place to stay In Koh Tao?? SEACH NO MORE!

We have had 4 nights at Annankhira Villas in Koh Tao and we had our best stay in Thailand over our 3 weeks vacation❤️

We can really recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience the pure magic of Koh Tao.

Great view with sunset, private pool, charming villas and perfect location from the main street noise, but still a short walk to everything.

The host has been really helpful before, under and after our stay and booked our taxi and even helped us with some shopping for our first day 🤩

The staff is really smiley and service minded and the house cleaning is perfect!

Kit which is the lady at the reception has exceptional English and was meeting all of our "demands" throughout our stay.

The Host Miranda is the sweetest person and she went above and beyond to make our stay magical. She recommended the Thai restaurant Chu Chu wich was an authentic Thai restaurant with amazing food.

They also have great opportunities for food delivery directly to the villas. Here you can get Thai, Sushi, Döner and Pizza and much more 🍕🍲🍣🤩

They use a guy called Mr San for Taxi Rides, and he is really fair with he's prices and gives very good advice when it's comes to experiences at the island.

As I was very lazy at the end of our vacation I didn't book the ferry to Koh Samui in advance, wich resulted in the early ferry was fully booked..

Miranda let us stay for late checkout, so we could enjoy the day in our Villa until we departed the island. 😍

We can't recommend this place enough and we really felt in love with Annankhira Villas and Koh Tao in General. We will for sure be back soon ❤️

10 out of 5 stars!!!

This place is perfect for 2 couples. It has everything you need. Great view, lovely view, wonderful staff. Nice quiet area, but close enough to the buzz of Sairee beach. The manager Kit was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely come back here.

Koh Tao – 5 days - Mainly sunny with a few clouds passing by.

On Koh Tao we stayed at the very controversial Anankhira. Now many of you will read conflicting reports about this accommodation. I will try to provide a balanced review.

The villas are in immaculate condition and completely finished. They are well maintained and very private. We stayed in Villa 1 which is the most private. Villa 2 is not as private, but may have a marginally better layout. Please expect to see some bugs no matter where you stay on the island. I had to take care of 2 spiders during our 5 day stay. We lit mosquito coils every night on dusk as a precautionary measure. If the pool is green don’t fret. It’s a chemical they put in it to ensure it’s kept clean.

The villas are situated at the northern end of Sairee Beach. Not on the water BUT this was not a problem as you have your own little pool if you don’t feel like walking to the beach. It’s a 2-3 min walk through a small resort onto the beach and then a 10 min lovely stroll down the beach to the main area of Sairee. Anankhira is off the main concrete road along a little dirt road which is about 30m. You will want a small torch at night to see where you are walking. There are roughly 25 small stairs from the dirt road to your villa. After all the eating you are going to do, 25 stairs will do you the world of good.

If you want to stay in equivalent accommodation right on the water I would recommend Koh Tao Cabanas.

As for Koh Tao itself, its mainly a dive island. Neither of us had any interest in diving and we still love the place. Its not a party island but still has nightlife. It is a nice chilled island to get away from the madness of the world. Some great snorkelling to be had for those who are not interested in doing the dive courses.

The first day you arrive go and hire a motorbike of some description. If you are a bike rider already then get a 250cc as it will get you everywhere on the island. We hired an automatic bike for 200bht a day. Money well spent. We found some dirt tracks that the bike couldn’t quite handle so we hired a 2 stroke geared quad bike. It handled everything pretty well. There are still some times where we parked the bike and walked the remainder of the way. Some of the dirt roads get pretty gnarly.

I could tell you all about the places on the island but that would spoil the adventures you can have. I would definitely go back here for a chilled out holiday where all you do is eat, drink pina colada’s, lie in the water on your blow up lilo and bronze up.

Try the Simple Life for great Thai food or Montebello for a nice woodfire pizza.

anymore questions please feel free to ask - marcrae@hotmail.com

Cheers,
Marc

Thanks for your review even though it is now over five years old unfortunately Trip Advisor does not delete old reviews from the system! However, I can tell you that Anankhira is now better than ever. We have also recently employed an eco pest company so there are fewer insects and you will find it hard to even spot a mosquito! Please do come back and visit us soon.

The resort is gorgeous; the villas gave that perfect amount of privacy and luxury, whilst remaining close to the environment and surroundings; the location was idyllic; Kit and the staff were so delightful I can not put it in words; overall, with seamless, top quality service in this stunning setting, my holiday was just perfect!!!!

We stayed at Anankhira for 3 nights in September, it was a very relaxing place, very secluded with a beautiful private dip pool (and we had no issues with the pool) and in a very eco friendly environment.

The staff are extremely helpful and are just a phone call away, they can organise dinner from a Mexican/Pizza/European take away place called "El Toro" which is not bad and they will go and collect it for you (the breakfast also comes from "El Toro" and was included in the price).

There is only one restaurant walking distance from the Villas which i would highly recommend, at the Koh Tao Cabana Hotel and they have lovely Thai/European food, the restaurant is a 3 minute walk from the villas, i would suggest you take a torch as there are no street lights for the walk home.

Anankhira has 3 villas, we stayed in Villa 2 which was lovely with an outdoor tv/sitting area and outdoor bathroom. The bedroom is indoors and the airconditioning works very well. They have a selection of great DVDs and Sky Tv.

The only warning i can give you is be prepared to see a couple of "little friends" (SEE PHOTOS) in the outdoor sitting area and bathroom, otherwise you will love it!

My first reaction on entering our villa was "wow", the views, the pool, the inside/outside living room, the bathroom cut into the rock. This is truely a get back to nature, get away from it all place. It certainly isnt the place for those with a fear of insects or nature but it is a gorgeous place to be. We were met by the friendly, well informed Kit and who gave us a mobile phone so that we could contact her at anytime which I thought was a lovely touch, unfortunately when we did try to ring her later that evening we discovered their was no credit in the phone so maybe this should be checked prior to guests arriving. Also we discovered the torch in our room also wasnt working or charged which considering how dark it is when walking back to resort at night was a shame.
The pool is fabulous, we really enjoyed our swims everyday and the great way that the resort is designed you arent overlooked. We were the only people staying here while we were there so it felt a little like we were on a deserted island. Breakfast is simple but nice, we also had lunch and dinner a couple of times there and it was really good.
Lots of mosquitos but the resort kindly provides sprays etc and mosquito net over the bed for guests which is a nice touch.
Overall a lovely tropical resort and we will gladly return someday.

My boyfriend and I tried to book a 1 bed villa but were a little late. I was delighted to receive an offer of the 2 bed villa with bigger pool for the same price! Of course we snapped that up!
Excellent comms from Michelle before arrival and no probs with the pick up from the pier.
The lovely Kit met us with welcome drinks and showed us Mokara villa. It really is just like all the photo's. Fabulous outside livingroom, small infinity pool but big enough for a decent swim and the most lovely views of the sea. Our bedroom was simple but beautiful and spotless. Comfy bed and lots of windows to allow for the views to continue and a large bathroom with hot shower. We enjoying jumping in our pool every morning before breakfast and im missing that very much now!
The living room had 2 sofas and a table to lounge around. A mini bar, large LCD TV and DVD player and a fan if it got a bit sticky.
Kit speaks perfect English and we felt confident that if we had needed her at any time she would have helped us. The staff working there who i believe are mostly Kits family, were just so friendly and genuinely smiling. Everyone seemed so laid back but yet efficient at the same time. We totally overslept for breakfast once and they were happy to still provide us with whatever we wanted. Other resorts would have turned us away.
We felt looked after when we needed anything but aside from that we hardly saw anybody. You are just left to do your own thing and chill out in your tranquill villa.
There are many mosquitos as with any island, we just lit the coils provided and doused ourselves in repellent in the morning and evening and we emerged with only the odd bite.
To get in and out of the villa there are a set of steps. Think about 110 of them. We counted a few times but kept getting different answers.(our villa was the highest i think) We just took it easy and didnt find it too difficult even when a little drunk! There is a rocky and uneven road which only takes a few minutes to walk down and then we cut through the opposite resorts grounds to get to the beach. It really doesnt take longer than 10 minutes from villa to beach. Saying that, we are in our twenties and early thirties and quite fit. I imagine it may be more difficult for those who are not fit.
We had dinner and drinks from the villa restuarant a few times and from the mini bar and it was very reasonably priced for the kind of resort it is. The food was very tasty and there was lots of it.
There were only a few things to mention which were not perfect such as no replacement flannels after housekeeping had been and no shampoo or conditioner provided. But if thats all there is to moan about (which we were not really bothered about) then i think you are on to a winner! If re visiting Tao we will definitely want to stay here again.

After a week in Koh Samui (thinking our our holiday accommodation could never be bettered), the 3 of us (one couple, plus a friend) made our way to Anankhira. Met at the ferry by the fabulous Kit (fabulous lady and great driver) we were driven to the resort. Now, we had definitely done our groundwork. We spend time reading reviews on anywhere we stay in Koh Tao, and Anankhira proved to be better than what we expected.

We had the largest villa (two bedrooms) which overlooked a picturesque view of the sea. Yes, the beach is literally 10 minutes walk away. Of course we knew all about the steps up to the resort (a bit tiring in the humidity), and that breakfast would be served. We even knew all about the large ghekos, which, apparently, some people find disturbing. As for us - we couldnt wait to meet one. And we did (delightfully). The rooms were very clean - and were cleaned on a daily basis. The shower ran out of water a few times - but, hey - this is an island. A quick chat to Kit, and magically it came on again. And that's what this place is all about - communicating with staff as to your preferances. We would suggest to anyone that they eat in at some point in time. The two fresh fish we ordered (cooked in two different flavours by the delightful Kit) was the best meal we had in our whole Thailand holiday. Which is saying a lot, because we have travelled south-east Asia quite extensively. The flavours were excellent - and the fish was as fresh as if it had just been caught. Add to that meal, eating in your lounge room with that magical view at night.

After walking up the steps in the evening, it was jump straight into the pool (beautifully cleaned every day) and just looking out at the lights on the boats. Mosquitos? Well, we get mosquitos here in Melbourne. It is about being equipped to deal with them. Anankhirah supplies mozzie coils - which we suggest are lit in the evenings. As for us, we also brought our own mozzie lotion.

The service was excellent. Every morning we were met with a fantastic smile from either Kit, her mother, or others working at the resort. The biggest smile was from Ting-Tang....a dog with a huge personality! At the time we were there, a honeymoon couple had come to stay. We saw the staff take special flowers into the room - to make it special for them. It is the small things that make this resort special.

We booked a day on a boat through the reception (Kit's English - and sense of humour - is impeccable), and all went according to plan. Tap into the local knowledge - because they can guide you as a tourist.

Would we go back? You better believe it! Anankhira was all it was written up to be and better. To be honest, sometimes when I read reviews I wonder what people want. Koh Tao - Turtle Island - is a magical place. Anankhira is just as magical.

I am very hard to please and always find something to complain about on holiday - you only need to ask my husband! Admittedly, I am not an adventurous traveller and was worried about travelling in the Far East. As soon as i arrived at Anankhira my neuroses were immediately put to rest however! We were met by the lovely Kit (who seems to work her charm on everyone reading below!) who was very attentive and I felt very confident that if I ever needed anything, be it luxury or help or assistance, she and everyone else at the resort could deliver! The villa we were in was enchanting, clean, airy, very well appointed and I particularly liked the sensation of communing with nature that their design encouraged. It was extremely peaceful but with lots of opportunities to indulge. I loved being able to jump into my own little lagoon like pool and look at the sea. I felt like there was the best of both worlds at Anakhira: we all like to treat ourselves with gorgeous places to stay but often on holiday I worry that staying in luxury hotels detracts from the spirit of the place you are in. At Anankhira there is the perfect balance of all worlds - it feels very personal and left a lasting impression of the beautiful Koh Tao and its people and culture but at the same time I was always comfortable and felt safe and secure. It was my favourite place in Thailand (and Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos - we did the lot!!) so I would always come back here, as it is also great value for money! Priceless memories!

Hi Elan Thank you very much for your message and your interest in Anankhira Villas. Yes, we do have 7 villas and a studio apartment and all of them, apart from the apartment, have their own pool. If you follow this link to our own website, then you can see the different villas and the studio apartment, get all the details fro them and also view a short video for each of them. Our nearest beach is Sairee Beach, a short walk of about 10-15 minutes. But please note that we are located high up (so you get the views), so the return walk has quite a few steps. Koh Nang Yuan island, the famous hour-glass island with the ‘Japanese Gardens’ coral is only 400 metres off Koh Tao.  It requires a short boat trip and can get very busy. The dive site is known as Japanese Gardens; the coral is a wonderment of colours and shapes. The snorkelling is fantastic. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks again for your interest and we hope that we may be welcoming you sometime. :-) Kind regards, Heie

The short answer is no. If your flight goes at 1pm January 1st then your check will be at the latest 11am and you will not be able to get there on time. You will have to travel to Koh Samui on the 31st December and then fly to Bangkok and stay over night there. Or do you mean that your flight goes at 1am on the 1st January? I this is the case then you will still need to leave Koh tao on the 31st December afternoon boat and travel to Bangkok for the flight to check in by 11pm. Either way I suggest that you book both your ferry and flight very soon.

Hi Gyula, There are a couple of different ferrys' you can take and it is very easy to book online. If you follow this link to our website and look under GETTING TO KOH TAO/Ferries there you will see information on the two service providers and details of their websites where you can book. They are about the same price for the same service. If you like to be outside then the Seatran is slightly better as it has a bigger open deck. Both should provide minibuses for the airport to the port include in your ticket price. Kind regards Jayne

Sorry I have tried to respond to this question five times now and it seems that it is not getting through, I hope this one does! All villas have sea views but in my opinion Laelia and Cattelya have the best as they are slightly higher up. Laelia has a ensuite shower which is Balinese-style and open to the outdoors but still private. We have our own vehicle which picks you up from the pier and takes you to Anankhira and also takes you to the pier for your return journey. This service is free. There are lots of taxis the island so you can use these in the evening. We also give you a free mobile phone so that ufo you get stuck anywhere we will come and get you up until 11am. Kind regards Jayne
