Haadtien Beach Resort has won the hearts of many for its exceptional service, with the staff's attentiveness and friendliness often highlighted. Guests have called out the resort's serene atmosphere and stunning views, though it sits a distance away from bustling island activities. While rooms are generally appreciated for their space and scenery, some visitors have encountered cleanliness issues.
The pristine beachfront, however, consistently receives high marks for cleanliness. Opinions on value are divided, balancing the perks of resort amenities and breakfast inclusions against some service inconsistencies. The resort's amenities, including the private beach and water sports, are popular, but guests have noted a lack of evening entertainment.

Detailed Reviews
Spent 7 nights here, so enough to be fair in the judgement.
The place got many pros but even quite a lot cons - so I am giving 3 stars as average of good and bad.
The location is probably the best in the island, the shark bay is very nice (btw, there are sharks in the water but no worries, a kind which is harmless), the overal service quite attentive and dedicated (I was not happy only with the room cleaning service and the lady at the reception should play less professional role and rather try to be more friendly). There is a nice green area at the pool and the bar is nicely located, you can enjoy the sea breeze while seating on the chair on the grass(if you are lucky to get one free).
Unfortunately, and here I come with the cons, the pool is dirty, not nice to stay inside, the bar is overpriced considering we are in Thailand and, something for me not acceptable, they charge 300bth for 1h on the kayak, for a place where you pay 200$/night I would expect to have those facilities included.
What I really did not like was the breakfast, limited selection, every day same things, tasteless fruits and very low quality juice, after few days I did not know what to take anymore.
I know beaches are public in Thailand but the resort allow people to enter the premise by just paying 100bth, so if you have booked and expensive bungalow on the beach then you get people blocking your view and beach access. The resort should simply forbide people to pass through, let the non guest to come with the boat if they want.
So in summary it is a nice place but management can do lots of things to improve the costumer experince and getting more 5 stars reviews

The resort is located on a secluded private beach, which was beautiful and peaceful and offered great snorkeling. This is one of the main pluses of this resort.
Haadtien’s staff was amazing and always very happy to help. We liked the spa a lot and enjoyed several treatments. Also, the dive shop, Reef Dive Centre, was well managed and professional. We did several fun dives with them and we very happy with the boat, safety, the choice of dive sites and our dive guide. The boat was spacious, comfortable and sturdy and we were the only divers at that time, which was great.
The cottages are a bit tired and could use some upgrading, especially for the price which we found a bit too high compared to the standard offered. As we booked directly through the website, they promised a free upgrade. When we checked in, we asked about the upgrade, they offered to upgrade us for additional fee and the offered cottage looked less appealing than the one we originally booked. Also, breakfast choice was very limited. Perhaps it was because the resort just reopened after the Covid lockdown. However, the resort seemed full to us. As I have gluten intolerance, and most of breakfast offered at the time was heavy on wheet-based bread and danishes, we decided to order breakfast from a nearby cafe offering healthy and delicious smoothie bowls and other treats. We appreciated that breakfast charge was deducted by Haadtien upon checking out from our final payment.
We would recommend that the resort includes more gluten free and vegetarian dishes in their menus.
We loved snorkeling in the resort’s bay, which is filled with coral and fish and saw a few blacktip reef sharks. All in all the stay was pleasant, services were great, and the beach, scuba diving and spa were wonderful.

I just spent 5 days in this magical place and I have to say the island is one of my favourite in Thailand. It has everything, from diving centers, good local restaurants to great massage places and enough road distance to go for a morning run (or trail run). I highly recommend Koh Tao if you like diving or snorkeling. Now, there are lots of hotels of different prices and I stayed at one of the nicest with Pool Villa. The room product is excellent and I did spend a lot of time on my terrace at night contemplating the surrounding elements. Now. it is not cheap, especially for Thai standards but it is worth it. The beach is one of the best on the island (with a bit too much crushed coral for my liking) and I saw sharks and turtles everyday in the bay whilst snorkeling. Amazing. The bad bit comes down to service and breakfast. Standards are not there and there is a strong need for training staff in smiling, making them feel special. The Thai staff are just polite and the Burmese staff non emotional. It is such a shame because Thailand is renowned for their warmth and natural hospitality. I live in Bangkok and I work with Thai people everyday. What I experienced at Haad Tien is not how service is like, especially when you spend THB 8,000 a night, believe me. Also, at that price, in an upscale resort in Thailand, it is a mockery not to serve fresh fruit juice. Ha, they also charge stupid money for renting gear like a life jacket (THB 200 per day). Small details that make a difference but the overall experience was great.

This is a beach resort that was built in a lovely spot, however it hasn't been maintained well and the overall standard is lacking. The linen was frayed and old
Our room had a great position on the beach directly looking onto the sea. However, the lighting in the room was terrible and the overall presentation/state of repair was tired and needs updating.
The service in the restaurants/bars was very patchy , some excellent some terrible, clearly no consistency. The location was way of the beaten track and although they offered a free shuttle into town it was always fully booked so we couldn't get seats. The prices for food in the onsite restaurants was ok but the quality wasn't, most dishes had poor sauces.
The beach was very rocky/coarse sand, coral so you need water shows to walk on the beach or go into the sea
The reception staff were terrible and completely ignored any negative comments

I honestly cannot tell you how disappointed I was about this resort.
We booked what we thought was barefoot luxury, what we found was completely different to that which was advertised.
The setting for the resort is beautiful but I am afraid it ends there.
The resort is dilapidated, dirty and run down.
We booked a gateway villa.
The villa was dirty, dark and shabby.
My husband went straight to reception to complain (he wasn’t the only one complaining, this is not reflected in most of the reviews on here)
He was told that there were no other villas available.
We decided to give the resort a try and see how we felt the next day.
I slept badly, the bed made clunking sounds when you moved, the pillows were lumpy and filthy underneath the pillow cases.
The towels were thin grey rags, the sort you would use for cleaning at home.
The day bed was dirty and badly stained
We were up early the next morning for a run on the beach, there were people putting towels on beds by the pool at 6:30am, this is not surprising as there were only a few sun loungers for the size of the resort.
We asked to see the manager who was unavailable, his deputy listened to our complaints and showed us two other available rooms, one was an upgrade, unfortunately they were in the same sorry state.
We decided to leave the hotel and try and get some sort of refund.
As yet I have not had a reply or acknowledgement to the emails I have sent.
We also spoke to another couple who were customers of a tailor made travel agent who were trying to leave too, for the same reasons as us
When I have looked at other reviews of this resort I am completely puzzled because most are good, it makes me wonder if they are genuine.
We also used the restaurant and found it to be chaotic with poor service.

This was part of a secret escapes holiday we booked, and we spent our entire daytime diving. On our last day that we were hoping to sunbathe and enjoy the resort, there was a storm so cant really comment on that aspect.
We were in a castaway lodge. It was lovely, very comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Only comments really are it stayed very hot in there, the hot tap let out scalding water and the plug sockets were unreliable. One didnt work, and the other depressed into the wooden cladding wall and didnt feel very safe.
Breakfast had lots of options and we enjoyed the cooked egg option, but other food was left out uncovered and there were lots of flies on them. Just a few more covers would make this go away.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The arrival room at the port is a very nice touch.
The shuttle bus only ran at inconvenient times (5.30am and 11 30am from memory), completely inconvenient for diving which is what many people visit thr island for. Maybe you could increase this? A taxi to Sairee beach is 400 baht (approx £10 which seems a lot when dinner outside the hotel is £2.50 a dish!).
Food in the beach bar was tasty.
My final comment would be that this is quite a long way out from anywhere in Koh Tao terms and therefore quite hard to get taxis back too. We passed many other good options much further in.

Just stayed here with my Husband, although staff are all hard working and the resort is nice it definitely could do better . The resort is too far away from anything , there isn’t even a shop nearby to buy water or maybe drinks to have on your villa balcony , so you have to pay hotel prices for everything . They have a shuttle bus that runs into main area’s the times of that daily are 8.30 am and 2pm also about 6pm I think not very good times at all for a shuttle service . They lighting on the resort is solar I think so it’s very very dark , at night you cant see anything at all and in the rooms even during the day I couldn't even see in the mirror to put a bit of make up on , and if you read a book not a kindle you will need a torch to do it . Even something so simple like a chair in the villa would be good . When you are getting ready there isn’t even a chair or stool to sit on . Like I said the staff are fine and food is good , we got a taxi a few times to stay with our friends in the resort they were staying in the Sairee beach area . When I say it’s out of the way from anything it really is and if I’d have known in advance we probably would not have stayed there .

My wife and I stayed here recently and enjoyed our stay. We had stayed for 4 nights and could have easily stayed for another 4.
It is a lovely place to stay due to its location right in shark bay and on the beach. The grounds are serene and a joy to stroll through when heading to breakfast, the pool or the beach.
We stayed in one of the hut rooms placed back in the trees. It’s a bit of a steep walk up to it but fine. The rooms are quaint and tidy but a little tired. There is air-con which is needed as with it being wooden it gets hot very quickly. There was a bit of a funky smell coming from the bathroom which was off-putting. There is a mosquito net around the bed which is needed as mosquitoes get into the room but it gets really warm under it during the night. For me anyway.
The breakfast was outstanding. It’s a buffet breakfast but the options and range of food as well as the quality was brilliant. The food in general is of a really high standard. We had eaten at the pool bar and two other restaurants and the quality was really high. The service can be a little slow but not a major gripe.
The pool was lovely and the beach was amazing. The hotel arranges transportation out and back 3 times a day into the port or a little further (for a fee) which is great.
The staff were really friendly and helpful during our stay.

The beach is great, the views are amazing and it is very quiet and relaxing to stay here. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. The daily shuttle to the beaches are free and is a great service.
However the prices for the food and drinks are higher the expected. For the same price of 1 dinner you can eat about 4 times at a restaurant at Sairee Beach and enjoy much tastier food.
The room is okay but not great.
The bed was very good but the bathroom is just way to small. However the view from the balcony was great

We rented the simplest bungalow and though at first it didn't seem very spacious, we ended up having enough room for everything. There were no mosquitoes as it appeared the room had been recently sprayed, but ants in the bathroom made it into the bedroom, but that's to be expected when so close to nature. The main pool was large and beautifully located. Breakfast was OK, though the coffee and bread were of poor quality, however there was an egg station and very friendly staff. The best feature was the beach, where baby sharks were present in the early mornings, and you can step into the water and see incredible fishes right away. We also saw a turtle in the bay. You can hire a boat to take you to other snorkelling/diving spots from the beach. The resort was very peaceful overall, though it is reached by steep roads so not very accessible for unfit people. We took the free shuttle into town most evenings to eat at the port.
The resort loses one star due to lack of flexibility on pricing: our ferry was cancelled and we had to spend two extra days on the island, but the hotel management refused to offer a reasonable price, so we moved to a far cheaper, and in some ways more comfortable, hotel in the port for these nights.
