As we pull away on the 11am ferry bound for Phuket I can’t help thinking are we making the right decision My wife and I have just spent 10 nights that originally started as 2 but we just couldn’t bring ourself to leave This place has something special The staff are so pleasant and always accommodating with what ever you want Why I think this hotel is so successful and what I was impressed with the most is seeing Angelo the owner of the hotel every morning before sunrise up and at it leading by example a true hard working owner My wife and I are middle aged and we have stopped in some beautiful parts of Thailand and this was our 3rd time on the island but only our 1st time at mama beach I will be back and mama beach will be our first choice

We booked this hotel as it has a double bed + pull out bed. We didn't have accommodation for the night so we were in a pinch and thought a pull out bed would be fine for the one night - when we got back to the hotel at midnight after going out for dinner and exploring a security guard said we need to vacate the properly immediately or they would be calling the police. We were obviously shocked and confused as we were being extremely quiet (we weren't even talking and ready to go to bed for the night). He explained the problem was 4 people couldn't stay in the room and we were breaking the rules, we asked if we could just book an extra room for the night and he said no, we asked if we could pay extra he said no. This was confusing as they had seen us all go into the room when we check in, however at midnight it was somehow an issue. At the end of this conversation, we ended up paying for a night there and not staying as none of us felt safe staying after how aggressive the security guard was and threatening to call the police. With an obvious language barrier (we are Canadian and only speak English) this was a pretty unsafe situation for us. Especially being essentially kicked out at midnight - we never got offered a refund or any other accommodation. Be careful if you are women travelling alone. However, if you do feel safe staying here, the room and location were very nice! (This incident happened in July 2019 but I don't have that option under "when did you travel" as an fyi.)

We were a group of 4 ppl that were finding a place to stay for a night in Phi Phi. I was very picky with choosing a place, as I didn’t want loud noise from party side of the beach, or from longtail boats from Tonsai beach, and also not far from the action - so I decided to go for this place. Location wise I felt like it was perfect for me! It’s not far from the pier to take longtail trips out to Phi Phi Leh, and walking street was only like 10 mins away. The rooms were tropical inspired, very clean. I like the outdoor area with the lounge chairs overlooking the sea and the small shed with sofas!

We stayed here for two nights. I booked a room with a sea view, and was disappointed when I arrived that the view was partially blocked by the reception hut, however, this did not ruin out stay given how close we were to the beach. We were in room A1. The room was small, but adequate for the time that we were there. The bathroom was a good size, and toiletries were provided. Towels and bed sheets were changed daily. The hotel does not have a pool as it does not need one, it does have a large jacuzzi which was a nice touch. The best time of day at this hotel was before day trippers arrived (around 12pm) and after they left (around 3pm), when they had left the island we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. There are a few sunbeds at the beach for hotel guests, but not enough to go round, and on our first day we had to make do with a beanbag. All in all, a lovely hotel, pleasant staff and great location. It was a lovely ten minute stroll into the main part, with plenty of restaurants closer to the hotel. I have read negative reviews about the open air bathroom but there was no issue with this. It was private and nobody could see through. The aircon was fantastic, and my only criticism is that the bed had to be climbed onto from the bottom, as there was wooden panelling around it which went from the bed to the wall, which we found pointless. I would stay here again should I return to this area.

Mama Beach Residence - room B2 has got to be the best room with a view on our whole 3 week trip around Thailand. The room was huge giving us plenty of space to spread out all of our stuff. The balcony was perfect for relaxing in he evenings or mornings catching the sun rise. The garden area's were watered every morning keeping it lush and green. Breakfast was plentiful, and delicious. Staff were friendly always saying hello. We did not eat lunch or dinner here as we would walk the 10mins into town and spend all day out. We loved stopping at the sunshine bar next door for a drink or food. The bed was huge and the pillows even bigger, I've never seen a pillow like it. It was almost too big but we both slept real good and the air con was the quietist we'd come across. Rooms cleaned every day even when we were in it, they were waiting at the door for us to vacate. Didn't use the pool but it looked clean and inviting and the beanbags nearby was a cool place o chill with a book. We borrowed a kayak for the morning and took a bin bag with us collecting rubbish out of the sea as we went, and on any beaches that we stopped at. Just a shame the kayak wasn't big enough and 1 bag wasn't enough for the rubbish washed up on the secluded beaches. So sad but we, the tourists are doing this so it was good to help even just a little bit. Only complaint was our toilet would get stuck and not always flush but no major problem for us. The staff had our bags carted to the ferry upon checkout very swiftly, we were almost running to catch up with him. Overall - an amazing stay on a quiet end of the beach not too far to walk to the main town. We would definitely come back to Mama (requesting room B2)
