Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really enjoyed our week at the Royal. We had two large adjoining pool view suites rooms (family of three adults). Mosquito nets around the four poster beds but they don't reach over the open top so a bit pointless really. The pool is lovely. It's a very pretty resort, lots of trees, water features and foliage. Walking through the grounds there were, for short distances, some areas which were a bit smelly as others have mentioned. Our rooms were away from them so it didn't bother us too much. Others have mentioned noise from children and other guests, but we didn't hear much - this was mid March so Covid likely made the hotel less busy than normal. We've stayed in Koh Lanta a few times and to be honest it is a kid friendly island so we always expect a bit of noise and it doesn't bother us. Rowdy nightlife is minimal so no noise there.
We didn't have breakfast or any meals at the resort so can't comment.
The beach is fabulous, Klong Dao has long been one of our favourite beaches. Gently sloping, clean, warm. Loads of beach bars and restaurants both on the beach and on the main road at the rear of the hotel.
I would have no problems staying here again, it was my wife's favourite hotel of the whole trip and the minor downsides are far outweighed by the good points.

It’s a shame that this hotel is aging and clearly lacks essential maintenance to maintain the comfort that one has the right to expect in this price range.
Wooden slat terraces are very dangerous and window joinery is starting to rot. One door in our cabinet was only held by the bottom hinge. We could have taken her on the head. After reporting a makeshift repair was undertaken (corner outside 🥴). Noseful odors are present in the bathroom. And very approximate daily maintenance.
Only the air conditioning is being renewed.
It's a shame because this hotel from the 80s is falling into disrepair due to lack of investment necessary to bring it up to date. It nevertheless benefits from an optimal location.
In a word DAMAGE

Stayed for 6 nights in a double room in the main building. Room was okay, but very small. The door was very thin and it didn’t feel very safe. Air conditioning worked well. The hotel has nice grounds and areas with a lot of flowers, statues and a fish pound. Smells sewage around the bungalows and I’m glad we didn’t stay there. Beach is nice for small children and families. The breakfast is very poor with the same every day. Would recommend to buy breakfast elsewhere. Everything closes early at the beach and in the area. Close to 7/11 and a few restaurants. Spa was good. Would not recommend the restaurant for lunch or dinner.

This is the second time we've stayed here this year. We were here for 5 days over Christmas and it was magical. Breakfast on the beach is perfect, and the barbeque food in the evening on the beach, whilst more expensive than if you went down the road, is great and plenty of it. We had 2 rooms with a pool view as the bungalows tend to get surrounded by mossies in the evening, wherever you go wear plenty of deet. Lots of shops nearby and restaurants for cheap food and for getting your laundry done. The spa is lovely but do take advantage of the free massage voucher you get on arrival. There is a lovely massage place just on the beach and plenty in Saladan at a much reduced price but just as good. Tuk tuks up the road are cheap and an easy journey into Saladan in the evening. We are divers so this area is perfect for us. Room is good and air conditioning effective and a great relief from the heat, bathrooms could do with a bit of a renovation, but were clean and towels provided for showers and pool each day. Try the Irish Embassy for a great meal and good evening out and walking street in Saladan has great street food. We will be back. The pool areas are great but beware of the sun as it moves quickly and you need to continually move the shades and beds but that was no problem. Free water provided in room every day and the staff are more than helpful. It's a bit overpriced but we like the unspoilt views and go along the beach to the Indian bar to watch sunset and the fire shows in the evening.

We stayed at royal lanta for 7 nights and we were not so happy Firat of all when we booked we couldnt see our choise of room but we booked anyway because all pictures looked good.

The paint in the first room was coming off from the seeling in the bathroom, the walls was dirty and the cleaning was unsatiesfying. We told the people in the reception and was able to switch room the next day. Same there but the walls were clean. The breakfast was poorley, no bacon no fresh juice and terrible coffe. The wifi was a joke and when we rented a moped from the reception we got a whrak, we changed it and got one whith a wobbeling front deck so we could go at maximum 25 k/h.
Also the cleaning was terrible, I have a shave in the bathroom ans some foam came to the mirror and on the basin and it were still there when we left 3 days later. So spend your money elswhere, where you get moore value for the money.

Location is the only positive and our cleaning lady Paw who was fantastic. Property is dangerous as the decking around pools and walkways has rotted so you have to walk very carefuly. Breakfast buffet was cold, same same, rarely removed dirty plates from our table. Property gardening all overgrown, nothing trimmed or maintained. Swimming pools falling apart and large pool is green after 5 days. Spa is closed, however Emma from Family Spa on the beach is fantastic. We stayed at 8 resorts within Thailand over 8 weeks and this Resort should be closed immediatley as it is not safe on so many levels. The Thail culture is lovely and they respect their guests BUT this resort has completley insulted us and couldn't care a less that we stayed for 2 weeks.

This could be a nice place but they just don't care. It is so unwelcoming.

We had a superior room which had nothing superior about it. No black out curtains as advertised on the website. We was awoken at 0400 by the light each morning.we had to ask 3 times over 2 days to get the safe fixed.

Room was not very clean. Empty shower gel bottle stuck to ledge in the shower.

Breakfast was basic. Bacon rationed under strict control.

A small change in the behaviour of the staff would make this a completely different place.

Quiet hotel, with really nice staff.
The hotel is right next to the beach, with a bar and beach chairs.
We stayed in a cabin, which was very exotic and cozy.
There is scooter rental from the hotel, which can be recommended if you are going for a trip around the island.

In July 2023, I was given an offer for a 34 night accommodation in a Deluxe Villa - I confirmed in August that yes I wanted to make a reservation and was sent the appropriate documentation. They wanted me to put my credit card information in an e-mail which I was uncomfortable doing. I decided to call and give them my credit card number and info over the phone. I did not hear from them so I sent another email asking when my credit card would be charged. I was informed that it didn't go thru and call my bank which I said I would do and then I get an email from their head office in Bangkok indicating they were working on a new gateway payment system and my reservation was guaranteed and I would be sent a payment link shortly. As I never heard back, I sent numerous emails without any further response to this date. Today, I found alternate accommodation

Really liked this hotel. It was very reasonably priced so I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

The staff were really helpful in arranging taxis and trips.

The pools were great with plenty of sun loungers.

Right beside the hotel there are plenty of restaurants and bars.

Yes there are, but be warned, our room was entered, they had a room key, and they had a safe key, and stole all our money out of the locked safe. This resort has untrustworthy staff and management did nothing to help. We don't think they even alerted other guests of the problem.
