There is a difference between the ferry that uses Vela Luka and catamaran service. The catamaran is what you want for Korcula town otherwise it’s a taxi or bus ride to vela luka. The catamaran goes to Split and Dubrovnik in a loop so it’s easy to access both. Use the jadrolina line and book in advance because it can be busy.
The ferry will operate in bad weather however the catamaran (quicker and more convenient) is weather dependent. August should be fine though as weather seems to break about September.
The catamaran docks close by for Korsal so easy to access in about 10/15 minute walk.
