The hotel is modern but designed with traditional elements around courtyards. The upper rooms have high wooden beamed ceilings and rooms are tastefully furnished and the bathrooms are modern and spacious. The hotel is tucked in a small lane in the old part of Lijiang and the main attractions are a short walk away. Breakfast has a small selection of Chinese and Western food. Our only complaint is that there is insufficient hot water for all thee rooms so we never had a good shower let alone hot water to fill the bathtub. We told the front desk a few times but the problem remained.

Came to visit lijiang in may 2020, very few people in general. Hotel service was excellent, candy the hotel manager was beyond helpful from the moment we arrived in the old town. Rooms were well designed with good quality hardwares. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is small but warm. Soundproofing is a bit of an issue for sensitive people but it’s considered better than most hotels in the oldtown due to its secluded location within the oldtown. It was a good experience overall, would totally recommend anyone who wants to explore the oldtown and have a modern place to stay at night.

We had such high hopes for this hotel but are sad to say that we were unfortunately a little disappointed.

The location of the hotel is great for exploring Lijiang (or Dayan) old town. Please bear in mind that taxis cannot enter here but have to drop you off at the gate instead. We weren’t aware of this beforehand (maybe something they should have communicated to us after making the reservation) but luckily the taxi driver called the hotel, which then sent a buggy to pick us up from the gate.

Staff was always very friendly and polite, even though not everyone spoke English. This is maybe something that I found slightly irritating, taking into account that LUX is an international hotel brand. So sometimes when you needed information you weren’t able to get it because no one was around that could understand you. We found it also problematic to get some general information upon check-in (we didn’t even get a map… luckily lovely Lea provided us with one a few days later). Lijiang is very difficult for non-Chinese-speaking tourists and the only place that you can rely on to give you some information is your hotel. Sadly I have to say that we didn’t feel like the LUX was helping us much to find our way around, know what to do or where to go, arrange tours… Instead we had to walk down the road to the Intercontinental where they had a very helpful and knowledgeable concierge team.

The room itself was great; beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The toilet amenities provided were lovely. However, our mini bar only contained about 3-4 items (not nearly as many as stated in the menu), so I don’t know if this is generally how they do it or if they simply forgot to stock it – for 4 days. There is only one English TV channel, a news programme, but this didn’t bother us much as we don’t go on holidays to watch TV. My main negatives regarding the room are that it is extremely dark with hardly any natural light coming in (tiny windows), and we could constantly hear the people in the room upstairs. Even in the middle of the night! I therefore do not recommend having a room on the ground floor.

The biggest let-down for us was breakfast. Their buffet consists of a very small selection of fruit, muesli and cakes. In addition you can order à la carte, but the choice for Western options is rather limited. One time I ordered the English breakfast which isn’t really an English breakfast but it was OK. The next day I order poached eggs on toast with a side of ham but got boiled eggs instead. And they didn’t have ham that day. The coffee wasn’t fantastic either.

We didn’t try their restaurant as you have to let them know in advance whether you want to dine there, or else it stays closed. Unfortunately I’m not one for deciding in the morning where I would like to eat for dinner.

Overall, it is a very nice property in a good location and staff try their very best to accommodate all your needs. However, we felt that most of them needed more training in regards to Western tourists. We definitely sense that the direction of this boutique hotel is a great one, wanting to deliver a very personal and intimate experience with unique touches. Unfortunately we feel that they’re not quite there yet. (The phone to make free calls is great but when we tried to use it, it told us that our balance is too low to make a call) Hopefully this review will help them to become the outstanding property it aims to be.

Large tastefully decorated comfortable room in an atmospheric location. Fresh fruit, biscuits was provided in the room along with tea/coffee & bottled water. Quality hair & body wash products in large dispensers. So much better for the environment than small single use containers. Staff were very friendly & welcoming.

Hotel location: It is located inside the South side of the Old Town. KFC, Starbucks are just around the corner.

Hotel lobby and ground: The hotel lobby and rest of the hotel areas are kept very clean and new. No problem there.

Room: If you are a light sleeper, absolutely avoid rooms facing the front entrance of the hotel. The biking and pedestrian road in front of the main entrance of hotel is extremely noisy during the night because of the other tourists dragging their luggages on the stone road going in and out of their hotels all night long.

Cleanliness of room is OK, interior decor is great and unique.

Toilet facility is good. Amenities are good. Beddings and pillows are OK. For a fussy person like me, I am perfectly O.K.with the room.

This trip was our Anniversary celebration trip and I need to thank you very much for the Front Office Manager “ Candy” for arranging such a romantic decoration for us(please see photos). Candy was very helpful and very professional. After the first night of stay, I found out our room was very noisy at night because it was facing the road and Candy helped us to switch to another room which was facing inside of the hotel and was very quiet. She also Recommended lots of places for good food and what to avoid. However, She seems to be the only professional person in this hotel. The rest of her staff is either lacking in customer service experience or they are badly trained. Not helpful at all.

Now let’s talk about the breakfast: first the breakfast area is not inside the same building of the hotel. Guests need to walk outside the hotel building for about 5 to 7 mins to another building to take their breakfast there. I suppose if the weather condition is O.K then it would still be workable but as you know, Lijiang often have showers and as a guest I would hate to walk under the rain just to get to the breakfast room. The stone road going to the breakfast building is very muddy and wet after the rain.

Breakfast quality is really bad here, first there were limited choices for breakfast, kitchen staff do not fill the empty food container of the breakfast table. So if you are a late riser then you will not have anything to eat. I went one morning for breakfast only and that was it. I took my other breakfast in Starbucks . As you can see from my profile, I have been to many hotels and trust me this breakfast is not worth getting up for.

Also, this hotel has no concierge so if you want to ask for places to go and advices to how to get somewhere then you are on your own or you can do internet search.

Overall, if they keep their recent pricing, I would definitely come back for stay but not food. If their prices increase more, I would definitely book the Intercontinental hotel which is just right next door from this hotel. The hotel staff training and breakfast are much better than here.

It was a very memorable 6-day journey with LUX*’s Tea Horse Road Lijiang and Benzilan. It is our first time visiting Yunnan. Also first time staying with LUX* and joining their private guided tour. We visited many places in the city of Lijiang, Shangri-La and Benzilan in 6 days and the experience completely blowed our mind. The experience in this trip has totally broadened our views about China, its culture and its people. It also taught us a great deal about how to appreciate this great country and its precious resources like the pu’er tea and the processing, brewing and tasting of it (which is really an art by the way), the cultural architecture combining the traditional Chinese Han and Tibetan style, the natural mineral-rich lands of Yunnan, the many blue glacier lakes, and the magnificent snow-capped mountains.

Thanks to the LUX*Tea Horse Road crew, the tour was very well planned and managed throughout. We are very impressed by how detailed they have planned the itinerary. From the moment we arrived at the Lijiang Sanyi airport, we were greeted by our tour guide Craig, to all the super delicious meals during the trip making sure we got the chance to taste the different local Yunnan favors and specialties, to our comfortable and luxury accommodation in both LUX* resorts in Lijiang and Benzilan, down to the well arranged sequence of different site visits and tours making sure us, 2 girls from HK, aren’t being too overwhelme, yet still keeping things fun and interesting for us to explore, and the drive northbound from LiJiang to Benzilan, and the different visits of the local Shangri-la cultural and scenery sites allowing us to understand more of the local Tibetan culture, to the very last day of the trip when we departed Shangri-la, we have been very well taken care of by the LUX* Tea Horse Road crew.

Special heartfelt thanks to Antoine for his help for arranging his dream team members to be part of this tour: the young and knowledgeable tour guide Craig (张凯) for his many interesting historical stories about China and Yunnan (and the romantic story about a local yogurt shop in Lijiang 😊); Our driver for the trip Mr. Lau (刘師傅), for being so patient, kind and friendly; Ms. Mary Liu, the lady who always has her sunny smile on her face and patiently served us breakfasts and dinners each day, even when we requested a late dinner, she’s still there for us ! And last but not least, the lovely Ms. Angel (拉姆卓玛) for her wonderful humors which have made our time in Benzilan and Shangri-la very enjoyable. We are also grateful for her sharing of her own stories, which have been an inspiration to us. They all should be very proud of what they have created with this wonderful trip, which is not only a good and well planned vacation, but also many inspirations and wonderful memories for us.

We actually missed the crew when we left Yunnan. We are glad to have met these wonderful people during this journey. For sure we will visit LiJiang and Shangri-la again. And for sure we will be looking for other LUX* Resorts and packaged tours in the future !!

Till next time ! Bisous 😘😘

The hotel is not so big that I have stay before, but I thought it was better than any hotels that I have stayed in Lijiang. The location is inside of ancient town, so we can go outside to walk or explore the town, it was so convenience for us. we liked the hotel style very much, combined naxi archtecture style, wood and stone, the smell of pine tree can make you relax, and a feeling to near nature. The service is so good, even though English is not so good, you can always feel the hospitality of any staff. They are eager to introduce local culture to you, and any assistance they can give you. we were so happy and touched. We are lost in ancient town, a staff came out and found us, and second day, we were going to outside, the staff gave us a local map. Another thing, the local government forbid cars to enter to ancient town, but hotel's battery car can pick up you in front of Intercontinental to the hotel, it was so good for us who had many luggages and bags.
All hotel facilities, rooms, even though books, presented us its tea horse culture, we drunk a lot of local tea, pu'er tea, the courtyard tea art is so wonderful.
In a word, I and my friends enjoyed this trip so much, not only the hotel, but also whole Lijiang beautiful scenery and people.

We stayed in the Lux for four days recently. It is situated in a quiet corner of Lijiang Ancient Town. This has its advantages and disadvantages. It is quiet and away from the throngs on the streets of the old town but it is very difficult to get throught those throngs especially at night so the walk back at night was difficult and at times frustrating. The hotel is also close to the entrance to the Intercontinental hotel outside the old town and this is a convenient entrance for arriving or leaving by taxi.
The building is very clean and tidy with pleasant courtyards. However for some reason it is lacking in atmosphere.
Breakfast was served by extremely polite, helpful and pleasant staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them in spite of the language barrier. Breakfast consisted of buffet of fruit, juice, yogurt, cereal and a choice from an a la carte menu. It was very tasty and nicely served.
The room was spacious and clean, with a vaulted ceiling, large bathroom and timber beams. Beds were comfortable. There were 4 tall narrow windows in the four corners of the room which left it quite dark.
We found it difficult to get information about local tourist sights from reception. The tour on offer to Leaping Tiger gorge was exorbitantly priced. We wanted to visit the first stage of the gorge with viewing platform but eventually went to another hotel and had no problem organising the trip from there for half the price. We were told at the Lux that it would involve a three hour hike which was not the case.
Bear in mind also that because the hotel is in the old town you must buy a pass and show it to enter the town during the day.
I found this hotel expensive and in comparison with other hotels we stayed in during our trip to China we did not get value for money. In fact we subsequently spent 4 days in a 5 star hotel in Hong Kong and there was very little difference in the price but a huge difference in terms of services on offer.
I chose this hotel based on the excellent reviews it received but I left it feeling somewhat disappointed.

We recently stayed at the Lux and I can say without question that this is one of the most amazing places I have stayed at. I have traveled around the world and am rarely motivated to write a review. The Lux handles every detail with style. The rooms are spacious and clean, the food is fantastic, and the service exceeds every expectation. For example, they greet you at the front of old town and escorted to the hotel, bring you tea as soon as you walk in, they walked us to dinner at 11 pm, they arranged for taxis whenever we needed to take a trip, they let us store our bags for an extra day after we checked out (so we could travel to tiger leaping gorge) and greeted us warmly when we returned. I could go on and on but this place is exceptional and you should stay here.

Thank you for your message! LUX* Lijiang provides transportation to/from the airport or any locations in Lijiang with the hotel car. There is also a dedicated golf-cart that picks up the guests at the entrance of the ancient town, where cars are not allowed to drive. The hotel is located in the southern part of the ancient town, few minutes walk from the main square. Mostly made of cobblestone small roads, Walking through the ancient town is a very pleasant activity and everything is close by. The hotel provides tours to the nearby attractions but can also arrange personalized experiences for guests of all ages to discover the Dongba culture and the local Naxi minority. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need any assistance, we look forward to welcoming you.
