we felt spoilt and special from our pick up at the airport to drop off.
as it was my birthday we had the honeymoon suite lovely, we had the same driver throughout our 4 days,he spoke very little english but so helpful in directing us to entrances and ticket office and was always there when we returned at our own time. the nice lad at the hotel sorry i did not get his name went out of his way with advice when needed to taking us to reccomended restaurants and deciphering the menu, you must try the Tibetan so friendly and a different experience( yak meat, very tasty) we went to the theatre of impression at Jade Snow mountain, amazing followed by an unforgettable trip to Yak meadow, we were the only people on top of this mountain with awesome views after 30 min bus ride and 30 min cable car. the chinese all got off bus at the bottom by blue pool. This hotel is a must and thank you for my birthday gift.

We booked this hotel based upon the tripadvisor rating (#1 of hotels in and around Lijiang), and our desire to stay in an "inn" type setting. I'm happy to report that the reviews are solid, and this place is a real gem. The hotel is located in Shuhe Old Town. There are two "old towns" in this area-- Lijiang and Shuhe. These "old towns" are basically mazes of beautiful streets filled with small canals and classical architecture. While aesthetically pleasing, the content of the old towns is dominated by souvenir shops (imagine hundreds of small shops all selling the same things). The Lijiang Old Town has been encroached by numerous western interests (Pizza Hut, anyone?) and is loaded with obnoxiously loud bars and clubs catering to the foreign crowd and the "affair in Lijiang" domestic crowd. Shuhe old town retains more of its natural charm-- no western chain stores, much fewer and quieter bars and clubs, and far better value in dining and lodging. Shu He also boasts more canals and water features, and tends to be far less crowded. Although the two "old towns" are only a few miles apart, the local taxi and minibus drivers have colluded to impose a flat fee of 40 rmb per trip to travel between the two sites. The local municipality has supported this by making it virtually impossible to travel between the Old Towns via bus, without requiring a good amount of walking plus a transfer-- tried it once and it wasn't fun. Basic advice-- stay in Shu he, and limit your time in Lijiang Old Town to at most one trip (which can include a visit to Black Dragon Pool, Lion Rock, etc).

Anyway, back to the review. This place is located in one of the quiet alleys in the Shu he old town. It's a gorgeous entry which opens to a yard dominated by a sparkling pool. There are two more yards within, where one can kick back and relax, read, eat, and just soak in the atmosphere. The rooms are unique, filled with local flavor but minus the kitsch. Our room had two double beds, a couple of nice wooden tables, an ancient-looking wooden bench, and, the coup de grace, an ancient-style wooden chinese bed. The bathroom was clean and tidy, and I believe even boasted heated flooring. All windows open out to courtyards or scenic alleys. My only compliant was that there was no fridge, but hey it's a remote place so what can I say?

We enjoyed our time at the hotel. Staff were helpful with advice on tours and such. There is a cook on staff who will prepare meals which seemed to be pretty tasty (from afar). While we generally found Lijiang to be a frustratingly over-priced and over-hyped destination, the hotel was definitely a bright spot, and comes highly recommended.

Sent two nights here with my friends for a short trio . We stayed in the family suite which was great . The hotel is really clean comfortable and staff is great . The location is in not in the main which turned out to be great . The main town is lined with bars playing loud music and I'm sure it stays loud all night. We were so re dived to stay in this area as it was nice and quiet . This is a great hotel you can't go wrong with this choice

We stayed in a dozen hotels during a recent month-long trip. This was among the best. It's clean and comfortable, as well as attractive and conveniently located in Shuhe. The furnishing are a little funky, but that's more of an observation than a complaint.

Though it's a little boutique-y, Shuhe is delightful and full of restaurants and shops. It's a picturesque alternative to the hustle and bustle of Lijiang itself, which is just a few miles away and easily reached by taxi.

The staff at the hotel is superb. Everyone was friendly and accommodating to a degree we encountered nowhere else during our trip. If you plan to be in Lijiang--or near it--you won't find a better place to stay.

We stayed 4 days 3 nights as a part of our honeymoon trip in Yunnan. It was a good choice for a relaxing place after we arrived from Shangrila. When we arrived we called the hotel staff to pick up us at the front gate of Shuhe old town as the road is too bumpy if we have to carry by our self to the hotel (Tips: buy a china mobile number first, price 100Yuan). Then we met a very helpful staff named Jet, he speaks very good English. Jet helped us many things: he arranged our tour to Yulong snow mountain, helped us to rent a taxi/van, suggest us to rent bikes to Baisha Village, arranged train tickets from Lijiang to Kunming. He also recommended us some restaurants in the hood and also some good attractions nearby. We dont speak Chinese and got many difficulties during our first time trip in China so we were really glad to meet the english spoken staffs here.
The room is clean, spacious, unique- ethnic and the bed is really comfort with an ellectric blanket as we stayed during the winter. They have a party in the hotel courtyard and you can get a chance to dance spontaneous with the Naxi ladies.
The hotel has helpful staffs and it is a wonderful place to stay.

When we stepped in the first time to the hotel we did not realized how special it is. The entrance is quite simple but the room we got is amazing!
Very big room made of wood with unique design and beautiful porch, overlooking the hotel center.

Above all is Jeff (who speaks fluent English) with his endless efforts to help and make you feel at home.
I highly recommend staying in this hotel.

The hotel is beautiful and romantic. The staff is excellent and speak English. We are American and felt very comfortable staying here. They have a driver that picks you up at the airport and staff comes and gets your luggage as soon as you arrive. The rooms open up to wonderful common areas that allow the cool breeze to come in. The bathrooms have all the conveniences of what a good western 4-5 star hotel would have. There is free wifi and TV. There is one English speaking news channel. The beds are very comfortable. It is located in the heart of all the restaurants and shopping in the Old Town. There is also a cafe around the corner that is owned by a Chinese American where you can get an authentic American breakfast. We found it to be a popular meeting place for westerners. We highly recommend it.

We took the high speed cable car to the top of Snow Mountain. The oxygen tanks are not needed. If it is a clear day, it is a must see.

If you play golf, the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Golf Club is a must as well. It is the longest course in the world. Every player gets a caddie and they are very knowledgable. They speak enough English to help you on the course.

Overall we found the hotel and Lijiang to be a very nice place to vacation. It's only a 3 hour flight from Hong Kong.

Excellent hospitality, cute room, transported our luggage to the inn. We loved this Inn and the town. Had we had to carry our luggage and navigate our way to the inn from the taxi with a toddler, I think that we would still be looking for it. It wasn't as bad as it sounds, it was just great to have the help. Our room had a free standing wooden bath as well as a separate shower and we had a balcony as well.....the bath was great the room very rustic and so charming! Our other family members had a bath in their room also, They used the pool after some hot days and walks. Jet the manager was much more than helpful, he went out of his way to please us! The only thing missing for us, was a little fridge to keep our drinks cold....but you cannot expect it to be 5 star....loved it!

We stayed here in May and enjoyed our visit very much. We had a bit of a mixup with our airport transfer early on, but it was made right and we were giving a free dinner as well (which was delicious!). The hotel doesn't have a restaurant (but there are plenty of great ones nearby), but sometimes you can convince them to cook you a local meal.

Jet, the manager, went out of his way to help us at every turn, including personally walking us to places we were asking directions to and translating with the locals for us to make sure we got a good deal. He really made the stay for us and his service was spectacular.

There are a few things to note about this hotel, however, to prepare yourself for your stay. Jet was absolutely GREAT, but he was also the only English speaker we encountered at the hotel. If you need his services on one of his days off, it could be difficult. The hotel also requires payment in CASH, they have no way of accepting credit cards. We didn't realize this until it was time to pay, but luckily there was a China Construction Bank ATM nearby and the hotel was well priced so it was easy to get enough money to pay the bill.

The rooms are nice, with a more local feel than we experienced at any other hotel. There is hot water all day and we were provided a space heater which was more than adequate to heat our room. There aren't a lot of amenities and it does feel a bit rustic, but we didn't really mind because of all of the shops and restaurants nearby. Don't go in expecting a luxurious room, by any means, though.

The staff of the hotel, especially Jet, are also very into the local culture. On the weekends they have local dancing which every guest is encouraged to participate in, and if the kitchen is available they will be happy to cook you a delicious local meal (I highly recommend their local pork with mushrooms, and I don't even like mushrooms!). One of our favorite aspects of this hotel was their interest in giving you an authentic local experience.

One of the best assets of the hotel is its location in Shuhe. If we hadn't stayed here, we probably would never have found out about this great town. We preferred it strongly to Lijiang. It had all of the charm with much less of a touristy feel. Shuhe seemed like a great boutique community, with clean streets, mostly friendly shop owners and many different restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed just walking through town and seeing the sights. Baisha village is also a faily reasonable bike ride from here and has an even more quaint feel.

Overall, I was extremely happy with our stay and I can't thank Jet enough for his help.

Just to back up all the positive reviews already here, we stayed at Huifeng Inn for 3 nights recently on a friend's recommendation and were very impressed. Loved the attention to detail in the hotel's design- great ambience with antique and rustic style decor, yet comfortable and well-equipped. Staff (in particular Jet) made a real effort to assist with booking tours, transport, giving advice on restaurants etc. Also, we had booked a room with bathtub, but upon arrival found we had been put in a room with only shower. When we queried it, they offered us a discount on the room rate (without us asking for one) and actually moved us to a much larger room with bathtub the next day when it became available. Excellent customer service. Would definitely suggest to others to stay in Shuhe rather than Lijiang itself- far more atmospheric and not as touristy.
