Clean, efficient and the service very friendly. Runned by Christians. I like the breakfast (which you can order the night before) is ample. Coffee is good. They will try their best to help, even in choosing a place fro a good meal, and will bring you to honest shops.

My priority for visiting this place was Tiger Leaping Gorge. The Maple Leaf is located right in the Shuhe area or the old town. Much of the area is closed to vehicular traffic. The taxi driver dropped me at the wrong place. A call to Paul and he came on a motorbike to pick me up without any fuss or bother. A very small intimate hotel that is very bright and breezy with a relaxing area in the foyer. Trips organised, menus translated, nothing was a bother to either Paul or his wife, Sally. Really wonderful hosts and would recommend the hotel very highly to anyone who is visiting the area.
Only one small problem was the rooms seem to be insufficently heated. Electric blankets are provided for those who like to use them.

If you're finding a place to stay in AND want to tour around the beautiful city of Lijiang, this Inn is the best place you can get. With sweet rooms of comfort, to unlimited amount of hot water (not a lot of hotels have this), a very well-organized tour guide, and not to mention the awesome breakfasts, the delicious banana breads, and the comforting, VERY generous owners of this Inn, I highly recommend you to try to book a room in this Inn. I guarantee you, you will have no regrets.
Its great there! MAPLE LEAF INN!

we stayed at the Maple Leaf Inn for 3 nights (4 people in 2 rooms) the rooms were good but a few things happened that left us with a very bad taste.

1. we payed in advance for 3 nights via Agoda website. 3 days prior to our arrival we sent email requesting to delay our 3 nights stay in just one day delay. The staff answered that their change policy is 7 days notice so they could not change it. I called and explained that on Agoda confirmation is written 2 days prior to arrival but the girl said that if I cannot email her this printed confirmation she could accept it (now, were do you find a fax or a scanner, i tried to explain but she wouldn't accept it) when we arrived to the hotel I showed it to her - she said that im right BUT now its too late and she cannot refund.

2. The hotel offered a day tour to the villages around including a visit at Dr. Hu in Baisha. We paid in advance. On the morning of the trip, the girl in the counter said that the guide called sick and that we will have to go with the driver only but the driver do not speak a word in English so he will drop us and wait for us to travel alone in the villages. We requested to cancel the trip but she said they could not refund us because we cannot cancel on the last minute. we insisted, so they made a phone call and all of a sudden some guy showed up saying he is the guide (this guide was actually an actor that had a show to attend to at noon, so he took us around the theater and then we watched his performance and headed back to the hotel. obviously it was not the day trip the hotel sold us but it was nice and he was a very sweet guy so we enjoyed it very much). when we came back to the hotel, we heard him arguing with the lady at the counter, after a few minutes he came to us asking for money because the hotel did not pay him what they had promised him in the morning. so we gave him extra money.

3. on the last day we checked out at 12pm, left our luggage at the hotel and went to Lijian old town. around 4pm we took a taxi from Lijian to the hotel, we asked the driver to wait for us so we can take the bags and we will continue with him to the airport. we agreed on a price in advance. when we arrived to the hotel, the lady at the counter said that its better if we will take their driver to the airport, but we refused since we already agreed with this driver and we did not want to cancel with him. So she told him a few words and all of the sudden he said he cannot take us unless we double the price. we said fine, no problem, we pay double. then she told us that we also should add more money for the road tax, we said that we will not add more money because we already payed double, so she told the driver to take a side road because we did not want to pay for the tax. The driver took the side road, and we were stuck in traffic from hell, we almost missed our flight. All that because we didnt want to take the hotel driver.

Such bad service can ruin your stay. we traveled 2 weeks in china and it was the only place we encounter such a bad behavior.
could be that we just had bad luck with that certain lady at the counter, but this was too much, and we left the hotel with a very bad taste.

I have traveled a lot, and this Inn is in the top 5 of places I have stayed in. It is not a 5 star hotel but a family run Inn. Clean, welcoming, helpful, good size rooms, easy to get to location in Shuhe old town, makes a good breakfast and a good (real) coffee.
If you want to see Lijiang area this makes a good base. We stayed 4 nights and loved it.

This was a discovery trip for us to see if its worth bringing the whole family over. The answer is overwhelmingly yes.

The rooms are clean, the staff are attentive and the location is perfect. Combine this with a very reasonable price and a family atmosphere makes this place stand out.

We were very glad to have chosen this place based on previous reviews and would encourage others to follow our lead.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maple Leaf Inn. The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke perfect English (thank you Sally and Paul!) They were always available to answer any questions. We booked a tour through them for Tiger Leaping Gorge and they also arranged for bicycle rentals - the ride to Baisha and beyond was a highlight.
The room was clean and comfortable, wifi worked great and breakfast was tasty. There is a pleasant enclosed courtyard where breakfast is served. The bathroom is clean and modern with an excellent shower and plenty of hot water; one thing to be aware of is that it is an open design - the shower is in the corner with no dividing wall or curtain, so most of the floor is wet after a shower but the floor dried quickly and we didn't find this to be much of an issue.
The location is great, near the front gate and convenient to the sights but quiet at night. Shuhe was a good choice rather staying in the much busier "old" town of Lijiang. We highly recommend Maple Leaf Inn!

Warm and friendly service. Made me feel like at home. This place was comparatively much quieter than the old town, with less tourist so the environment was very relaxing. I loved the homemade banana bread (which was pretty much available twenty four seven), plus they serve decent breakfast (really good homemade bread, bacon, eggs, orange juice, tea, coffee -basically what I usually eat for breakfast). Also they arranged all of our tours and tour buses for us throughout our whole stay in Lijiang (a total of 5 days). All of the staff were very friendly and they even cut out a piece of aloe vera leaf for me when they noticed I was sunburnt after my hike on the snow mountain.
My friends and I stayed on the second floor of the inn, so at times the bathroom smells (probably from the sewage? I'm not sure). But we figured out when we leave the exhaust fan on the whole day it turned out to be fine. So, besides that everything else was superb which made my stay in Lijiang very enjoyable.

From the moment we got here to the moment we left (literally as Will the owner ran back from being out to make sure he said goodbye to us), this place was brilliant.

The rooms are super cosy, the indoor courtyard is a great place to chill, and the location is fantastic. Oh and the banana cake and ginger tea are superb.

Few tips about the area:
1) Bike ride to Baisha takes about 45 mins and very easy to find your way. You cycle through fields of tall sunflower with a glorious mountain backdrop.
2) Taxi's to Lijiang are 30rmb, bus is really simple and drops you next to Lijiang old city, on the way back it drops you about 10-15 min walk away from Shuhe - costs 1rmb so worth it!
3) Tiger leaping gorge was amazing! Do the high walk, less dust and better photo angles.
4) Go to black Dragon pond & Lion Hill in Lijiang, be aware the pond is dried out at the moment. Still a nice walk around it and good photos to be had.
Enjoy.
