Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a compact, comfortable room with a small open terrace in front of the room extending along the hallway in which to sit and relax. For a compact room, it was well-equipped with hair dryer, TV, kettle, kleenex, hand and bath soap and telephone. For a small charge, laundry could be done for you and hung to dry. When Judy discovered our plans to go to Tiger Leaping Gorge, she took it upon herself to call for bus information which she relayed to us and also stowed our luggage in our absence. Her friendliness and warmth made for an enjoyable stay at the hostel.

Airport to hotel: once in a taxi, give Judy a call and hand the phone over to the taxi driver. They will agree on a convenient drop off spot, and Judy will come there to pick you up. At the hotel: the place is in the middle of where the action is, yet the small court yard is like an oasis: relatively quite and very pleasant. The rooms were clean and comfortable; small but adequate (i guess not smaller than other rooms around). Around: an important additional advantage of staying here, is that Judy speaks very good English, and is happy to help you with your arrangements in and around LijIang. She is really helpful nad efficient.

Firstly, the hotel is conveniently located, close to the main areas but not so close that it is too noisy. It can be a little loud at night, but I am afraid this will be true of anywhere in Lijiang Old Town. Judy runs the place well, has exceptional English, and went out of her way to help us, including walking us to a good restaurant on one of the evenings. The other staff are friendly, and the coffee is pretty good also. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and they have two lovely dogs who mostly sit around and enjoy being patted. Recommmended place to stay.

Shanghai Family No.68 Hostel was one of our destinations during our trip around China. The communication ahead was without any problems. Judy helped arrange a taxi for us (the driver was just amazing). So even before arriving to the hostel it self we had a good feeling. Shanghai Family is situated just a few steps from the main pedestrian street of the old town so its a perfect place to stay if you want to be in the center of whats happening. Rooms are spacious, clean, wifi is reliable and fast. The outside sitting area is so nice that one doesnt even have to leave the hostel and can enjoy the great atmoshere of Yunnan. The 2 dogs make sure that no one uninvited enters. From maps to bus booking or trip suggestions - no worries staff will help you with everything. No language barrier at all. Since I am studying Chinese in Beijing Judy helped my improve my speaking skills! This place is in good hands. Thats for sure!

I stayed a couple nights here and it was great. The rooms were well setup and everything you need was provided. What I liked the most were the people working there, who were quite friendly and helpful. They even helped me buy my bus ticket back to Kunming and get it delivered to the hostel. Challenge them to a game of Catan for extra fun!

me and my husband we've been in China for our honeymoon, and we stayed 3 nights in this bed and breakfast: Judy, the owner, speaks english very well, and she's very kind, always ready to help us. Our room was very clean, romantic and cosy, with everything U need to feeling home.I can confirm all the positive review about this place, but there is something more...If U reserve a room in this B&B don't miss: 1) a dinner cooked from Judy's dad, we tasted best chicken in China in a traditional chinese family atmosphere 2) REAL yak meat... very close to B&B there is a restaurant very cheap, where U can try this yunnan traditional dish 3) take some rest in the B&B garden, with Judy's dogs, flowers, a swing seat and a good book.. life is about little pleasures, and this B&B is the right place to enjoy them! emi (italy) and orlando (cuba)

We stayed there for 3 nights. Pros: - Very helpful and friendly owners who arranged transportation and recommended food places - Cosy atmosphere - No-shoe-in-bedroom policy is great! - Rooms were extremely clean and well-appointed - Great location, off the main shopping street - 2 cute dogs Cons: - Didn't manage to sleep well due to thin walls, general street noise and inconsiderate fellow guests...dogs barked at night whenever there was noise outside the main door All in all, if you are looking for a quiet place with less crowd, Shuhe old town might be a better choice.
