*Disclaimer - not sure if this guesthouse is able to accept foreign guests.

We had a comfortable stay in the rooftop twin room. The location was convenient - close to the centre of the Old Town and on one of the big roads, so orientation is easy, but still quiet at night. Hostel has 3 floors (stairs only), with the 1st and 2nd floor rooms arranged around a covered courtyard charmingly decorated in a mixture of traditional and modern. 3rd floor has rooftop rooms, with an open-air terrace to soak in the sun/hang your wet laundry. All rooms except the single rooms on the 3rd floor have private bathrooms. Not much in terms of service or food (not much of a deprivation given the proliferation of cafes nearby) but the owner can arrange for cars to take you to nearby attractions e.g. Cangshan Mountain.

“Rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor are standard Western style and darker, and only contain queen/king beds. Twin/single rooms are on the roof terrace, have skylights, and are consequently brighter (and warmer!). Due to the sloping ceiling, the terrace rooms are Japanese tatami-style, which may also explain the slight smell of wet wool.”
