The rooms were spacious and comfortable but you may be in trouble if you require a non-smoking room. I was here with a western tour group and several people had trouble finding rooms that did not smell of smoke.

Despite the name (Plaza Holiday Inn) this hotel does not belong to IHG. The rooms were spacious and clean; not luxurious, but comfortable. Nothing to complain about except for a light cigarette smell in the first room we were given. The mattress was a bit too hard (as it normally is in China), but I have tried worse. The room...

We stayed in this hotel for one night while on a Silk Road tour. The hotel is newer than most, and has a cavernous lobby that seems out of proportion to the hotel. The room was clean enough, but the main issue we encountered was that even though the temperature reached 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit), there was no heat in...

We are in Jiayuguan to visit the Ming Fort of the same name and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. Rooms are large. All the air con and plumbing work and they even sent us ice cubes for our whisky. Limited English is spoken here and the hotel caters mainly for the local tourist groups and conventions....

Jiayuguan was a Gobi desert oasis – but in 1965 a huge steel factory was built, this triggered a large population influx . But as the city is well located for some of the important landmarks in the region it is still reasonable to have it on your travel schedule. Not sure if the Holiday Inn is the best option...

Stayed there for 1 night. Cheap, clean, reasonable. Very friendly staff and many of them were there and eager to serve. Had a very nice and inexpensive dinner there. Food quality was good. And they extended their service hour just to serve our table. Breakfast was OK but not really offering a lot of choices. Free wifi. Location was a...

Great hotel along the Silk Road. Newly renovated and very spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Located on the outskirts of the city so have to take a taxi to get to places, but it was very cheap for a taxi ride around the city. Breakfast with a variety of selections are provided.

But otherwise, a very nice, clean, spacious room. The lack of English-speaking staff could be a problem. We asked for, and received, extra quilts which we used to pad the mattress. There are newspapers available for reading in the lobby, including China Daily for English-speakers, although this was a few days out of date. There is no coffee in the...
