From an American point of view, it is pretty much a ramada. The rooms were clean and basic. The beds are hard as a rock but linens were nice There were tents outside the hotel and mat storage which explains some of the other reviews but seriously, if you are paying 300 rmb to be at the best location on the mountain what could you possibly expect?? Due to location you will pay more than you think the hotel should be. For hiking on the mountain, to avoid the heavy crowds don't head up on the cable car until after 2 pm and wait until after 4 pm to hike when the masses leave. The hike to lotus peak and bacjpk is max 2 hours to get in before sunset. then hike again at dawn (6 am). It will be foggy when you start out but it burns off and it is well worth beating the hoards of ppl that flood the mountain. Bring as little a you can possibly manage if you plan to hike with your stuff the next day. Some of the descents are vertical with no handrails, and niether of us felt comfortable doing that with a heavy load. If you are doing a pre stay in old town, strongly recommend the hui boutique hotel. Inn keepers were a huge help and they will hold on to your luggage that you don't want to take up the mtn.

Well at first I would like to let you know the cost of travel up to the hotel. It takes up to 3 hours from Huangshan North Railway station with a bus to Tangkou (23 Yuan per person one way). From there you have to take another but from the same line to 🚠 cable car (around 20 Yuan per person). When you get to cable car you have to buy another ticket to get up to top of the mountain for (90 Yuan per person for single Journey + 190 Yuan to enter the park area). On the way back you need to pay return ticket for the cable car of 100 Yuan per person and all the rest of bus tickets. Big advise do not even think of taking any luggage up to the hotel as the journey from the cable car to the hotel is very narrow and tricky with lots of stairs and hills (around 1km walking distance). Max you can take is either small hand luggage or back pack. We were not advised about this at any point. We had few luggages and had to pay 180 Yuan to move it. Likely the hotel was helpful after long negotiation to arrange transfer from the hotel to cable car for free.

The hotel itself is another story where the room we were offered at first it was very small with no window view what so ever and on top of that there were noises. Eventually they gave us reasonable room. We paid for the room 2500 Yuan with breakfast. Its not worth the price unfortunately but I guess they take advantage as you staying up in prime location. While we were there they had disturbing works going on outside the hotel which again we were not informed about(it can even restrict you privacy in the room). The WiFi is below average. The menu it’s not great - average, more options would be welcome. The bathroom cleaning ness is very bad, you can see mould on the walls in the shower and ceiling. There is electric heating so you cannot control the temperature in the room.
Reception staff have tired to be helpful overall but you have to push otherwise they will not do anything from their own initiative. One or two people speak English. The hotel is located in one of the first stops of all group trips starting their journey at this point around mountain so expect noisy and crowded mornings.

One more advise, when you have a rain on a forecast for the day take umbrella or rainproof cloak as otherwise you will get soaking wet like we did 😂😂. Overall we have enjoyed the mountain views more then the hotel. It was a good learning experience for future.

Just to clarify I have given 3 out of 5 rating in my feedback due to only location of the hotel.

Please plan your journey carefully.

The location is amazing, the views are great by any reasonable standard and not bad even by Huangshan's absurdly high standards. Upstairs was a pleasant lounge, acceptable muzak and occasional free tea. The dorm beds were nothing special and there wasn't any soap in the bathroom. The staff had as much English as we could expect and went out of their way to help us. Didn't use the private rooms.

We slept in de dorm and it was very convenient! After reading some reviews, I thought we are just students so one night sleeping in a bad hotel and just enjoy the view is no problem. But it was a really nice stay. I also think that the Hotel rooms will be better than the reviews will suggest because they were cultivating the hotel. The price for the dorm was quite cheap (13euro) and the employees were very kind and helpful, Thanks to Bin! However, if you have the choice when to visit de yellow mountains don't visit it during the chinese holidays/free days, then it will be very crowded.

Located on one of the mountain peaks in Huangshan mountain itself.

It's a pretty bare bones hotel about 3 stars.
The rooms are just ok, nothing to write home about.

The nice thing about this hotel is that you can stay out late and wake up early to take in the amazingly nice scenery without tons of people around.
The day crowd would be all gone by then around 5pm before the cable car shuts down.

The dawn and evening views with the evening ambience are just stunning!
Took a ton of photos.

Just spend one night there and move to another hotel in the upper peak and back down to town the next day.

Overall:
Standard 3 star Chinese hotel.
Worth staying one night for the great evening/dawn views.

The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful in resolving a booking issue. The booking website (ctrip.com) charged our debit card for the hotel, but when we arrived, we found that the hotel was at capacity and did not have a room for us. Ctrip.com was not helpful in resolving the issue. The front desk, however, was very professional and contacted current guests to see who would not be able to make it to the hotel that night. They were able to find a guest who booked a room and couldn’t come. We were able to have a hotel room that night because the staff truly went above and beyond to help us even when it was not their responsibility. Otherwise, we would have had to slept outside in the mountains because Ctrip.com did not offer any reasonable solutions. I highly recommend this hotel to all guests traveling in Huangshan region. They truly care about their customers.

We stayed one night while hiking the stairs in the Huangshan Mountain scenic area. This is really the best location on the mountain - close to Celestial-Capital Peak, the most impressive climb on the mountain, and close to a tramway if that's your thing. The daytime crowds fade away as the last tram leaves in the early afternoon, and we still had time for some fantastic exploration in the evening.

We also had a great dinner with another couple we met on the mountain - very surprisingly one of the best we had in China.

We booked a 4 bedded & a twin room for a day stay. The twin room has added/ better amenities in the room like tap filter, bath towels, a computer & a tea set for making tea which are not available in the 4 bedded room. All the rooms has shower & shampoo, face towels, room slippers, heater. The beds are comfortable and they are pretty decent rooms in view that we are up in the mountain. The ala carte dishes we ordered for dinner were delicious. Breakfast was not so good though- the noodles like rubber bands, but porridge ok. To get to hotel, take a 10mins cable car from Yuping station. (Vs 3 hours climb up the mountain). After alighting from cable car, walk about 10-15mins (longer if you are stopping to take photos) to the hotel. The hotel is a relief sight after a steep climb up the last flight of stairs. The area outside the hotel is where the famous pine tree is & the scenery is beautiful. It is also the point where you start your hike down the mountain & up to Celestial peak. After the hike to Celestial peak & back, we had a wonderful view of sunset outside the hotel. If you don’t want to hike, the hotel location is wonderful for the view of Huangshan.

The location of the hotel is great, so we enjoyed the views in front of the hotel very much. But it's definitely not a 4 star hotel. In november it was very very cold in the hotel, but they did not want to close e.g. the entrance door. The lobby where you could have a drink and use the internet, closed at 6.00 pm? The girls working there had to go home, they told us. So we could only sit at the couch in front of the entrance door (not allowed to close). The restaurant was also very cold, the waitresses worked with their coats on. Hardly any choice and we had to be in time (we did not know) because otherwise the restaurant was also closed. Rooms have thin walls, we could hear our neighbor snore. We won't come back in this hotel. It's a pity, because the location is great.

Having read reviews about hotels on the mountain I had very low expectations. At least there was no unpleasant odour coming from the bathroom! The room was poky and shabby with two very narrow twin beds. We were on a lower floor with a small window with a view of a wall below the footpath. We could hear people talking and laughing in the next room. We called housekeeping to bring toilet paper to our room. A positive is that the shower had hot water.

The only guest sitting area I am aware of is open to the foyer and has tables and seating overlooking an amazing view of the mountain. We sat here for a drink on our arrival. Later in the day I decided to wait for my husband here but there was a group sitting smoking despite the "No smoking" sign on the wall. I am allergic to cigarette smoke so had to wait outside. I asked the young man at reception if smoking was allowed. He was very embarrassed, his English was limited but he told me it was his "boss" entertaining "important friends". I asked if we were not important guests and added that it was not his fault.

In our room was one green teabag and no coffee or sugar. My husband went to the desk to ask for some coffee and "Bin" at reception explained there was no coffee but gave him some good green leaf tea. He said that his mother grows green tea in one of the villages nearby which was better and he would bring some for us. This was obviously his way of showing that we were important to him. The next morning he arrived just before we left with a large bag of his mother's tea which he explained was "last year's".

Yupinglou Hotel is also known as "Jade Screen Hotel". It is built in amongst the rocks almost at the top of the mountain. The views are nothing short of spectacular. Most of us would be happy to sleep in a tent just to experience this location!
