I have never written a trip advisor review before, but I feel I should warn fellow travelers before they end up spending a fortune on a bunk bed without any linens (they have them in the closet, but they don't give them to you), bad service, and instant coffee. My husband and I ended up staying at Refugio Lo Valdes...

We visited Refugio Alemán Jan. 1st 2017, together with a group of friends (we were 4 in all). Our idea was to treat ourselves with a late breakfast and to enjoy the view and the architecture of the old house. We were reluctantly greeted to finally being "accepted" for a very simple breakfast that included bread, ham, cheese, eggs and...

Went with my veggie wife just for lunch. New admin since my last visit years ago. Only 1 option for lunch (chicken, rice and potato). No sauerkraut, no pork, no german dishes, nothing. When asked about greenies for my wife, answer from manager was incredible "she just eat the potatoes"...! I had contacted the admin by email before, and He...

Beautiful old chalet and garden, basic facilities (own linen, shared bathrooms, limited electricity), which we were expecting, so that was fine - the price is pretty steep though. Food and drinks can be provided, as long as you're happy to eat what's on offer that day, and accept that you won't know the price until you come to settle up...

This accommodation has the best views in the Cajon, and as compared to options in Banos Morales is nicely secluded. Though with this you are also reliant on the refuge for meals etc. There is no alternative in easy walking distance. This would be OK if the refuge produced quality food, but our experience was mixed. No local beer (only...

Lo Valdes is truly a "refuge" in the high Andes. We stayed here five years ago and enjoyed it so much we returned in February, 2013. The chalet building is amazingly well preserved from the 1930's. The rooms are clean and pleasant. We had the front room with a large window framing the Volcan San Jose topped with glaciers! Beautiful!...

This lodge provides a great place to spend 2 or 3 days to take in beautiful scenery, hike a couple of trails, and maybe visit thermal baths. The lodge is accessible via a gravel road from San Gabriel, just beyond the fork to Cajon del Maipo and Banos Morales. We took the bus from (#72) from Bellavista de la Florida...

I visited el Cajon del Maipo with my brother this month. The Cajon is incredible, actually within the Andes, but the place we stayed at forced me to write this review mostly as a warning to fellow travelers. We picked this place after comparing with other options in the area, specifically because of all the services they provided, according to...

I feel blessed to have been to stay here...we got a recommendation from a friend in Santiago to stay here and it was well worth it. The view of the Andes is amazing, and the refugio is the perfect retreat. There are miles of hiking paths all around you and the Termas de Colinas (hot springs) are about 30 min...

Prices are a little steep for a B&B with shared bathrooms and showers ($48 pp/pn); having said that, the next decent lodging is 30 to 40 minutes back towards Santiago down a dirt road. The lodge is located on the south hill of the valley, just above the village of Lo Valdes, where the creek from the El Morado glacier...

“If you do stay here and your height is above average make sure to try the bed when you get it, the first night we stayed in a room called "arenas" in which your bed is adjacent on three of its sides to the wall and when we finally went to bed late at night I found that i did not fit in the bed and since its against the wall I couldn't even stick my feet out of the bed, slept terribly.”
