We arrived to a lovely reception from one half of the hotel's owners, Lance. Immediately felt welcome, safe and at ease. The hotel is in Santa Teresa, not the tourist end of town, but that's only to its benefit. We loved the area, especially the bars and restaurants, not to mention the scores of friendly locals helping two obvious travellers... More

We loved every minute in Casa Cool Beans! Lance and Sergio were amazing hosts and extremely helpful in the planning of our days and making sure we were on the right track. We loved being in the quaint neighborhood of Santa Teresa and having many local bakeries, restaurants and bars within walking distance was a huge plus. Casa Cool Beans... More

This place is rated #1 in Rio and it totally lived up to the expectations. Beautiful property and amazing service. Lance and Sergio make sure you have everything covered for your stay and go the extra mile -- every day. And yet, they strike a good balance at not being overbearing, which can happen in some B&Bs. And property is... More

Earlier in our trip we stayed at their other location in Ipanema, but decided to stay up here for a different experience. If you have more than a few days in Rio, I highly recommended dividing your stay between the two locations as they are both awesome but different. Santa Teresa is removed from the beach area of the city,... More

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights at Casa Cool Beans and we really enjoyed it. We stayed in room 7 with its own balcony which was nice and we enjoyed an evening spent drinking champagne here before dinner. We barely saw Lance or David but Sergio, the hotel manager, was very helpful. The hotel is located very well in... More

As the cab from the airport careens up the steep and narrow roads of Santa Teresa, you might wonder what you have gotten yourself into. Don't worry! The neighborhood and Casa Cool Beans are simply wonderful. From the charming, artsy decor, to the immensely friendly staff, you will love your stay. At the delicious breakfast spread each morning, you will... More

I stayed at Casa Cool Beans with a girlfriend for a week at the beginning of May. I was impressed with the team when I booked but they got huge gold stars for getting us into our room two days early, at 24 hours' notice, after a coach strike in Buenos Aires meant we couldn't continue our visit as planned.... I returned to Casa Cool Beans for my 3rd trip in less than a year. Nothing has changed, the rooms are great, the staff is fantastic, the location is great. Lance, David, and Sergio, well what can be said about the best hosts I have ever had the chance to experience. It was like returning home, and that's such a... More

We stayed for 5 days in march/april2013. We arrived late into Rio and had a car waiting for us. Room was excellent, with a personal greeting in the room. The extra effort the owners go to for all of these little things makes a big difference. The service was great throughout, we were pointed in the right direction and given... More

We stayed at Casa Coolbeans for only 2 nights. The place is stylish and colorful, with art in every nook. Furthermore the place is immensely affordable especially for Rio! It is a 5 minute walk to the main street in Santa Teresa, and a 1 minute block to Bar Gomez - a great place to get a caipirinha and have... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
