My big regret is not choosing this hotel for the whole of my trip. I stayed here after a disaster at another hotel and arrived at 4am on 21st November. I'm not a gushing type - but the security guy and the receptionist on that night were both fantastic. Polite and very professional. The room - suite - itself was lovely; the bed perfect, bathroom classy and old style - I love the old fashioned tiles. The views over the pool and the pool itself is amazing. The whole thing feels classy but not Four Seasons classy - like more authentic, old money classy. Food (room service and the pool bar) was fantastic and the staff across the whole property was just great. As I said, I'm not gushy but I can't find a negative. Don't hesitate to stay here - it's a little pricier than the other hotels but worth the money - and next time I go to Rio I won’t look elsewhere. Congratulations to the staff and management of this hotel - it's a top place.

I didn't do a lot of research when picking at Hotel in Rio, I used the AMEX hotels collection and there were two options and landed on Copacabana Palace, boy did I get lucky with that choice. This is the caliber hotel up there with four seasons and other top hotels in the world. The staff is all wonderful and goes above and beyond to help make your stay great. It's in a great location and is very safe with a nice pool and other amenities at the hotel. Would go back in a heartbeat!

It all started with an armored car transfer from the airport booked 2 days in advance the was not registered in the system, to a 5 hour wait to check in. A front desk clerk who was unbelievably inattentive, that blocked my one credit card,, to not honoring the terms of the reservation, not until. I asked for the guest relations manager, that was fantastic, but a machine to work needs a whole bunch of bits and pieces to work. Over priced and over hyped.

Elevado com barulho assustador…Carpetes com manchas e mau cheiro. Atendimento com pouca atenção e descaso…disseram que já sabiam do barulho no elevador mas nada foi feito. Dream stay. Superbly located hotel, well-decorated and very clean. All the staff were attentive and very polite. Everything in this hotel is perfect, from the restaurants, the pool, the spa (I tried the plenitude massage), the beautifully decorated rooms, to the super comfortable beds and pillows.

I am a returning customer who spent my birthday week at the Palace. I stayed in the Penthouse and cannot say enough about how good they are at making me feel special and welcomed. From the cake and champagne to the towels in the bathroom everything made me feel very special. There restaurants and pools were all visited and exceptional. I also like the fitness center. My morning walk along the beach from the perfect location are my most favorit thing about Rio.

The Copacabana Palace is objectively one of the nicest high-end hotels in Rio, however I cannot say from our experience there we would necessarily come back (over staying somewhere else like Fasano for the entire time). Here were our pros + cons: Pros: The food was excellent, and the staff was very friendly/nice. The pool is heated more than most “heated” pools are, so it makes it easy to hang out there all afternoon. Service is fairly fast, and it’s generally easy to get same-day reservations at their on-site Michelin Star restaurants (although of course the sooner you can book, the better). Turndown service was excellent — Karen was amazing. We were on vacation with our best friend for his 40th, and they had a beautiful cake waiting with a nice card when we got to our room which was a welcomed surprise. Cons: When we got up to our room after checking in on the first day, it initially looked beautiful + clean. When I pulled the desk chair out to sit down and make a call however, there was a large piece of bloody/used floss just laying there (see image attached). There was also a random pearl on the floor that we returned to the front desk (I assume from the past guest that stayed in our room the night prior). When we notified the front desk, they mentioned our room would be re-cleaned, and that the on-site manager would be notified of what had happened, although nothing further was done about this and our room was not changed. It would have been nice to personally hear from the manager about this incident in-person, however this did not happen. Outside of this initial first experience, the cleaning was excellent throughout the remainder of our stay. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable (very hard/old). The other issue we had was with the Amex Platinum Fine Hotels Benefits not being credited appropriately/clarified at check-in. Just like any Amex Spa credit, this one included $100 USD as a “Spa Experience Credit” — one of us got a massage and the other a manicure/pedicure. At checkout, they gave us our bill and I noticed they forgot to apply the spa experience credit, so they manually did so at the desk – and the spa services were deducted from the bill. AFTER we checked out of the hotel, I received an email mentioned that they had forgot to charge for the mani/pedi, and went ahead and charged my card on file. When I responded, I said I only used $62 of the credit, so most of the rest of the credit should cover the other service. They responded promptly by saying those services were not included in this credit (however there was no mention of this prior). Of course if I knew this beforehand, we would have just booked two massages, and it would have ended up costing a lot less than the mani/pedi that we were just informed was not included in the spa experience credit. In the spirit of being honest, I found the whole ‘admin mistake late billing after checkout + not including those services without any prior mention’ incredibly tacky — particularly for a Belmond Hotel. Yes it was a marginal amount of money, however it was not handled correctly or tastefully. All in all, I would recommend taking a peak at Fasano if you’re looking for a polished stay in Rio with more of a Four Seasons style level of service.

We last stayed at the CP in 2016 and had a wonderful experience so decided to extend our stay attending a conference for another two days to stay at the CP again. Maybe it's good to just leave the wonderful memories of a place intact and not try to recreate the experience. It started pre-check in when I was sent the pre-check in email with the wrong name and dates of stay. In this day and age of privacy concerns this is unacceptable and much more care should be taken. At check in I asked about the room upgrade that could have been offered if available and was told that "you have the room you paid for" by the somewhat surly clerk. He did not identify the benefits that came with my booking through Visa Infinite Luxury hotel collection (which normally happens when one books through AMEX FHR) but when asked he said that we had the room 45 minutes early so that was the benefit. On check out when I asked for a 12.30pm check out, as once again late check out is a perk, when available, which in my experience is always agreed to in a 5 star hotel, the receptionist said "NO" and only agreed when we said our departure to the airport was scheduled for 12.45 and we were hoping to have a quick swim and walk on the beach before a shower and check out. Turn down service was not done due to us apparently having a do not disturb sign on the door which was totally not the case. As the water is not potable one relies on the evening service for drinking water. The breakfast was very disappointing- eggs to order served hard boiled when requested soft inside, poor selection of items including processed cheese only, very few savoury items and a lot of sweet pastry which is really not our choice of food. In terms of how this compares with most other hotels of this calibre I would give it a 1 out of 5. We had just spent 5 nights at the Grand Hyatt in Barra and all aspects of the GH were better than the CP. The good to balance out this negative review was that the drinks at the pool bar were fantastic and snacks provided were replenished without asking. All in all this hotel does not live up to its reputation and it was a huge disappointment. To add insult to injury, I reviewed my cc charge this morning and have been overcharged by $500! I have yet to be provided the requested invoice from our stay. I assumed it would be popped under our door or sent via email on departure but neither of those transpired.

The hotel is excellent. Very attentive and well trained staff. Hotel with wonderful facilities and great restaurants. The rooms have a more traditional style, I think maybe at this point they could be improved a little, but without losing the traditional charm.
