Nestled between the iconic beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana has been lauded for its prime location and luxurious amenities, including its pools with breathtaking views and top-notch beach services. Guests have celebrated the hotel's vibrant atmosphere and the attentive staff, although some have pointed out service delays. While the rooms offer modern comfort with stunning vistas, the noise level and occasional housekeeping inconsistencies have been a concern for some. Opinions on value are mixed, with additional costs sometimes overshadowing the overall indulgent experience.

Beautiful view, wonderful location, delicious breakfasts, decent service! The location of the hotel is super, you can walk on the nearby beaches (the nearest Copacabana, then Iponema, then Leblon and while you are walking have already reached various shops and the large Shopping Leblon shopping complex, where you can cool down a little under the conduit and buy an Ice Frappuccino. We went for a long walk and even with our 10-year-old son we enjoyed a long walk! On the beach line there are a large number of oncoming passers-by, on the opposite side quite free! Expanded features with the Fairmont gold offer, will make your stay more comfortable. This is breakfast in a separate restaurant on the 4th floor, where it is quite calm and all attention is paid only to the hotel guests, while breakfast on the 6th floor includes the service of everyone from the city who comes for breakfast. Comfortable separate sunbathing area with soft cushioned sunbeds, Copacabana view and cool shower, but if you want to swim, please pool or crowded beach with sunbeds from the hotel! Here you can order drinks and light food from the bar! All for your beautiful holiday. Room service is daily, with water and bar upgrades every evening. Rooms have iron, hairdryer, all necessary toiletries (cotton sticks, discs, brushes, hats), bathrobe, slippers, lotion, hair conditioner. There are pleasant surprises in the closet in the form of a beach bag and shale. In short, it will be comfortable and generous hospitality will make you feel welcome in Rio! If the view of the city, even if the 12th floor, then prepare for construction noise (a new hotel is under construction, smells from a nearby cafe and loud bus noise! We changed rooms the next day, of course on request, but if you're still in the booking stage, book the ocean view right away! Breakfasts are included and stunning, there is a small buffet with fruit, yogurt, fish and meat offering, as well as bakery abundance. Fresh juices, coffee, tea on request, offer with different dishes already on the table. The service is very polite and fast! Thank you very much for your hospitality, we are very happy and will definitely come back again!

I stayed here for three nights as part of a larger group tour of South America. Very good customer service, friendly and polite staff who were always willing to help and had a smile on their faces. Excellent rooms with very comfortable beds. It was great to have an iron and ironing board at my disposal. Reception provided me with two adapters as the ones I had with me were unsuitable. Breakfast in the dining room had an ample supply of lovely buffet food but also waiter serivce available. On the day of depature I was allowed to keep my room till 2pm and as I had a late afternoon flight I could store my luggage with the concierge and use the gym to shower and change clothes.
The only thing I can fault is the unnecessary charge for hotel guests if they wanted to have a drink and listen to music in the pool lounge in the evenings. I think this needs to be changed. The hotel is well located at Beach Posto 6 and has beach side bar, tables and sunloungers. Nevilyn at the Tropik Beach Club was charming and very pleasant during my visit there.

My wife and I stayed for five days and had an extremely pleasant experience. The hotel is very well located and offers rooms, quiet and equipped with blackout curtains. The cleaning service is impeccable, and the king size bed with high quality sheets guaranteed great nights of sleep. On the 6th floor, the hotel has two pools: one with infinite edge, ideal for enjoying the morning sun, facing the sea and with a stunning view of the city, the other facing the afternoon sun.
Next to the first pool, there is the bar and restaurant where breakfast is served, which stands out for a wide selection of fruits, breads, sweets, cakes, juices and protein options. It was one of the best morning cafes we've ever tried. We had lunch at the restaurant on one of the days and were impressed with the quality of the dishes and desserts served.
In addition, the hotel has a beach support point with loungers and a bar where you can order drinks and snacks with comfort. At night, the bar next to the pool turns into a point for a happy hour, with live music and an excellent list of authorship drinks. The food also surprised us by its quality.
But what stood out most was the impeccable care of the team. All staff were extremely attentive, helpful and genuinely committed to making us feel at ease, offering information on hotel amenities and valuable tips about the city. A special mention to Meirelles, who welcomed us on arrival at the hotel, to Carol at the reception and to Pereira, Thiago, Dani and Maitê, who served us in the restaurant and during breakfast.
We will definitely come back more often. We felt like we were really at home.

This is my fifth hotel stay in Rio and the first time I would not book a hotel again. This is especially because the high price does not match the service and I do not want to pay just for the location.

The rooms are very nicely decorated, modern, small for the price and have a balcony, which is rare right on the Copacabana. Unfortunately, a desk is missing in case you have to work.

It is partly a bit noisy due to music (from the hotel) and road traffic in case you are sensitive.

The service is always friendly but overwhelmed at breakfast and Check-out.
The food was a weak spot for me. Dinner was okay but price/performance did not fit. We had better steaks (and side dishes) in the hotels for significantly less money on our trip.
The service at breakfast was very friendly but totally overwhelmed. There are 2 employees at the door talking and a nice lady tries to serve all the table.
There was a very delicious dark bread, which is rare in Brazil and also a very good coffee/cappuccino.
Many foods were empty, there were hardly any cereals, only one type of milk, mineral water has to be paid for, no strawberry jam, there are no berries, the pancakes were hard as a stone, the scrambled eggs have to be fetched yourself and queued up. In my perception, a management function is missing that coordinates processes.

There are two pools, a nice quiet little pool behind the building and a very overflowing one with beautiful views. However, here you queue to get a place and is very close and also right next to other guests the food.

The fitness area is well furnished, I personally only miss a cable crossover for a longer stay.

We were advised to contact the concierge for business. Since we had little time we are the Recommendation. I briefly said hello to the concierge and asked him what is the best way if you want to visit Sugarloaf Mountain in the late afternoon.
He paused for a moment and then taught me that you start a conversation with “Hello” instead of “Hello”. He is basically right about that, time for good manners instead of a hectic hello should be had but to me it seemed rather arrogant at that moment.

Unfortunately, his performance was poor for us, he quickly booked two tickets and we drove to Sugarloaf Mountain on our own. Once there we had to find that we had to wait in the very long line for hours to get into the cable car. On site we were advised to book the Fast-Pass ticket if we still want to climb the mountain at the weekend. However, this cannot be done at an additional fee, we had to book more new tickets for 100 EUR and our 61 EUR tickets were useless. However, he did not offer us this important hint or the choice (you have both offers on the booking pages).
When we got back to the hotel, the concierge was unfortunately not present but a very friendly colleague wanted to request a credit for the unused tickets.
We are curious if we will receive this, so far we have not received any further information.

For a supposedly 5 star hotel, service was abysmal. Out of the 5 hotels we stayed on our tour of South America, the Fairmont was definitely the worse. Every night I had to request a change of towels, water & general top ups (in our experience a non existent turndown service). One day, on our return at 5.15pm after being out all day, no housekeeping done at all since leaving in the morning, Another day, a coffee stained sheet had not been changed & we had to again ring for housekeeping. On two days at breakfast I had to request removal of dirty dishes and in the end removed them myself.
On checking out they wanted to charge us for the breakfasts we had already pre-paid for!

The hotel is located in a great location between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. The staff cleans the room a couple of times a day, so you are always welcomed with a fresh room, and there is always water in the fridge. The breakfast and pool area have a phenomenal view, and the staff is very attentive. The gym is great. I can hardly compare this experience to any other hotel experience I have ever had. It would change your trip and experience.

I stayed at the hotel with a group of friends to celebrate a special occasion. The reception staff are very attentive, we arrived before check in time and as soon as the rooms were ready, they sent a message on WhatsApp letting us know.
All rooms were a comfortable size for two people and the cleaning service was very good.
Overall, we were happy with the accommodation.
We just had an uncomfortable situation at breakfast. We called reception and asked if we could have a cake. It was authorized and we were informed that there was a fee (100 reais + service) for us to take it. As soon as we arrived at the cafe, we gave the room number and informed them that we had the cake. However, when we arrived at the table to surprise one of the guests, a woman from the team rudely interrupted, saying that we couldn't bring outside food. We explained that we had already contacted reception and that it had been authorized. Given this response, she said that we had to pay and we replied that the reception had already informed us about this.
It was a one-off event, but it shouldn't happen in a hotel of this level.
Everyone at the table was guests, we had paid for breakfast (almost 170 reais per person) and followed all the instructions provided. The way this employee approached us caused us embarrassment and we were extremely disappointed.

My wife, two children, and I stayed at the Fairmont for 4 nights from August 12-15. I cannot say enough about how great the location is or how fantastic the staff are. Everyone from the Front Desk, to the Concierge, to the pool/bar staff, to the restaurant staff were absolutely fabulous (special credit to Junior at the coffee bar, who humored my attempts in my limited Portuguese multiple times a day always with a smile, and was exceptionally kind to my children). The entertainment in the evenings by the bar/pool were truly top notch. The location at the juncture of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches made it ideal for exploring the beachfront part of the city on foot, and it was very easy to get cars throughout town.

Now to the facilities. The public areas again were top-notch, befitting a luxury property like a Fairmont. This is especially true of the stunning pool facing Copacabana beach and the restaurant, and also of the lobby and cafe spaces. The rooms are a different story. They are very nicely decorated and with every amenity, which is fantastic. But look behind the facade and there are things a luxury hotel should be doing better. Our first room had a balcony door that did not close entirely--that is a problem in any city, but especially one as noisy as Rio and ESPECIALLY when a new building was being built just a few blocks away. The noise was unbearable, and apparently the hotel's engineers were unable to fix it (that said, we asked to be moved and were immediately accommodated in a room without those issues, a further testament to the high quality of service at this hotel). Even our new room had some issues, though. The shower had some drainage issues; the toilet constantly clogged (even when using the trash can for toilet paper); and overall the tiling and drains looked worn. In the room itself, the electric switches made no sense, and some did not work every time we tried them (for example, it was very difficult to figure out how to turn all room lights off without turning off the master switch, which resulted on morning in us waking up with uncharged mobile phones because we cut all power, not just to the lights).

Overall, this was a great experience, but the owners should seriously consider investing in basic things in the rooms in order to bring this up to the level I expect from a Fairmont.

The Hotel does not disappoint at all. The accommodation is perfect! All hotel professionals are extremely dedicated and committed to the guest's well-being. I make special reference to Daniela (a sweet person), Josué and Tiago, who are part of the breakfast team. As for room service, I make special reference to Leonete (very attentive), who prepares the suite at night with great care. My husband, I and my daughter are very satisfied! It will be our usual hotel!

We arrived on 21/12 at 17:00 to check in, after everything was filled out and the security card passed, the attendant informs us that our room is not available, and that he could offer another room until it was even available, it was not in the past time. We did not accept and we said that the check in was at 15:00, so he left the reception without telling us what to do we were standing for about 20 minutes and the supervisor of the reception arrives saying that he got a room, we arrived in the room and it was a room adapted (the detail that we were not informed this and even asked if we had an interest in this room) returned to the reception because we were with a child and the BWC without driving for the next use. I asked to talk to the supervisor again , here comes the manager Patricia , with her face shut , saying that the hotel has no obligation to warn about the adapted room and that no guest had complained about it , I asked what time our room would be ready , and she told me that she would not have as
We were informed and that well all the rooms are ready by 18:00 , I asked what time of check in ? apologized mechanically without the slightest desire and the slightest empathy for what happened to do and showed me another room to see if it could be , we changed room but it was almost 18:30 , we still had to wait for the placement of the extra bed , to facilitate the staff placed the couch blocking the passage to the balcony , being the same cabin on the side , we ended up raising the couch to put in
Another place where we can walk in the room without beating.

Team totally unprepared for unforeseen , constant exchange of staff , was never the same to give the return . The check-in was 15:00 hrs we were able to install us 18:30/19:00 and with the feeling that the hotel was doing a great favor for us. The other employees tried to be cordial , but the manager who should be the example was the most arrogant of all .

Unfortunately we still have 5 more nights. A pity for a hotel that is Virtuoso, we've had some counter times on the trip, but none like that kind of service.

Answer from Ken J

Generally the rooms are a little bit nicer than a superior/.executive room so I my experience it really depends on whether you spend a bunch of time in the “gold floor lounge”. This is a stunning hotel and the poolside bar and restaurant is exceptionally a place to hang out so I wouldn’t have used the gold floor lounge at this property. Accor really looks after us so we were upgraded to a suite for the extra space (we travel with two kids) and using the terrific amenity of the hotel and the beachside designated guest area worked out much better. So personally I’d save the extra money and spend it on yourselves on the beach or by the poolside. The superior/executive rooms are just fine.
