I stayed at the JW Rio at the beginning of September and the hotel is amazing. The guys on the beach who provide chairs and towels to guests were great. I am platinum elite and was taken care of my whole stay. I enjoyed the hotel so much I am coming back in January for 15 nights this time. Great place and highly recommended to everyone.

If you’re expecting 5 star service from the hotel staff on the beach, forget it. I was utterly humiliated by their beach service staff in front of my family. Because I requested our chairs moved away from close contact with other guest. Well within the area the Marriott has used within the 20+ years I’ve been coming to this hotel. Eventually after multiple requests to their beach service employee to setup chairs and an umbrella só my family could wait out of the sun until a manager I requested arrived. Unfortunately, I was forced to setup the chairs and umbrellas where I initially requested. Furthermore the manager I requested never appeared on the beach to resolve this matter. Later after informing senior management, they agreed that my request should have been granted. Senior management also committed to addressing the other issues they were made aware of. Such as repositioning the staff more inline with the hotel entrance so not to confuse the guest. The beach service staff has an agreement with a tent set up on the beach to receive commissions for having Marriot guest purchase drinks. There are several tents that sell drinks for guest on the beach. But Marriott’s beach service openly promotes the tent which they have a deal with. Furthermore they set up there personal space directly behind the this particular tent and keep the guest crammed in beside this tent. I overheard one member of the Marriott’s beach service complaining to a competitive tent owner saying they should not serve drinks to Marriott guests. So far as of today’s date no one from Marriott’s management team has spoken to the other tent owner since they have been notified. Senior management committed to investigate this. Any guest who chooses to stay in a 5 star hotel should not be humiliated like this. As a Titanium Lifetime Marriot guest, I expected my horrific embarrassing unfortunate experience be dealt with effectively and timely. And not brushed aside as it appears.

My friend and I recently decided to take advantage of Brazil's open travel conditions and jumped on the plane to take a quick weekend trip to Rio.   We arrived in the morning, but were able to check in immediately and were even offered breakfast.  Furthermore, we were upgraded to an ocean view room.   Back to breakfast, selections were great with fresh fruits and made to order eggs/waffles.  Their Pão de Queijo, Brazilian cheese bread, was actually tastier than those from the top Brazilian steakhouse, Churrascaria Palace, but the greatest thing on the menu was coffee, which was simply amazing!   The club lounge was quaint with its own majestic view of the Copacabana beach. Ironically, we ran into a few American tourists, who were also from Chicago...what a small world!   Lastly, as our return flight was at 11pm, we asked for a late checkout.  Well, we were given a checkout time of 6pm.  I've never heard of an early check in of 10am and late checkout of 6pm.   Before I go, a special shout out to Aline at the front desk who should be recognized by the company as one of the top international Marriott ambassadors.  She epitomized Brazilian warmth, kindness and service!  Thank you, Aline! We will return with our families next time.

This hotel has on of the staff in all Rio. This hotel is a classic styled hotel, incredibly big. Great views, The rooftop only would be better with a fence that allow you to enjoy more of the amazing beaches of Rio. If you like to feel cared for come here, the food is just amazing, a perfect breakfast. The roof top pool and bar are nice, so is the gym. I look forward to be back soon.

I travel quite frequently and have stayed at this hotel a number of times. Not because of the price range but because of the service mainly. Excellent service from desk, room, dining and bar staff. All are exceptional. Food is great. Best steak and burgers in many a mile. Worth popping in for dining experience only!
