We chose to stay in the Lapa district as our base for exploring Rio and we are so glad we stayed at this hostel in Lapa. The location is perfect as its near the subway that goes to all main attractions and beaches and you can also walk to the others such as the arches, Santa Teresa, cathedral, SAARA district...

Really nice hostel with friendly staff. Very clean and you get breakfast included. Was pretty expensive when we stayed though (160 reais) but that was during the Olympics so perhaps that is why. Some people said the area of Lapa it was in could be a bit dodgy but it's all well lit so didn't really feel in danger at...

Ive been here twice over the years. It is really a great and affordable hostel. The people working usually are great and they prepare Caipirinhas at the hostel. If you like nightlife this is truly the best location because it is in Lapa. If you prefer the beach then this hostel is not for you. I have met countless of...

This hostel was just ok, the rooms were HOT no fans at all and only limited air con at night which hardly cooled the room down at all. When we asked a male worker for a fan or air con on in the afternoon we got a straight NO. The female workers were lovely and very nice. The party scene...

Was there over the new year of 2014/2015. The hostel was clean and in a great location central to many tourist attractions as well as very close to the metro! Front desk staff are very friendly and helpful.

Ive been here now for 5 nights. Its been great, the staff is so nice. Welcoming, open, caring. Dont be suprised if you end up partying with them! I also like the hostel visually, with painting and the way its been decorated. Its located very close to lapa and downtown. So stuff like partying, seing the cathedral or the stairs...

i arrived late and tired and the warm, friendly staff made me feel right at home. the location is ideal for checking out all the Lapa nightlife. the hostel is in a narrow building on one of the main streets in Lapa. Your basic hostel bunk beds, decent breakfast.

I first came to Caipihostel to stay 1 night, but I had such an awesome experience there that I decided to stay one more night. The staff is great, friendly and helpful; the breakfast was a plus (none of the other hostels I've stayed in the area offered breakfast). The rooms, common areas and bathrooms were most of the times...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Things you should know before coming here:• This is a backpacker hostel and we praise the backpacker lifestyle. So, we chose to offer awesome facilities for free and a cheap price for the stay. All rooms are the same: 6 bunk beds (12 people), with spring matress, big individual drawer and bed light, wi-fi and security cards for each room. • We have air conditioning everywhere (in the rooms from 10pm to 10am) and a great common area with a happy hour bar, tv and a lounge area for smokers. We are really serious about having fun and sleeping. This means that after 11pm, the party must go on in the streets! Guests who do not respect this, will be invited to leave.• We don't have private rooms because we want you to meet new people and make friends. We also don’t have breakfast neither kitchen facilities because of some building issues. But food around here is really cheap.• We are in Lapa: a insane place with street parties, historical buildings, loads of bars and restaurants and amazing people from around the world; but it’s not a wealthy neighbourhood and you well see the real side of Rio, not just the postcard picture!• We’re not beside the beach, which means you’ll see more locals walking in the streets during the day, not only tourists. You can get there easily by bus (25min) or subway (20min); and what you spend to go there, you’ll save when you walk to the bars at night. • Remember: we only accept CASH! And the payment must be at the check-in. There are several ATMs on our street and the Police Central is in front of us. Read our terms and conditions too.• ... more   less
