Conveniently located within a short walk to the centre of Kusatsu Onsen. Nice small Japanese style hotel with reasonable size rooms. Staff are friendly and try their best to communicate in English. Onsen baths are not large but sufficient for hotel guests. There is choice of private as well as public make and female baths. Given the price of our...

really nice place! even if you don't speak much japanese, they are very accommodating and can converse in english. apart from the public baths, there are private baths (indoor+outdoor) which are really great if you want privacy. also had hands down the best food i've had at a ryokan. totally recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night and really enjoyed ourselves! It was amazingly quiet, relaxing and the food was phenomenal (though I frequently find this to be the case in Japan). They do not speak very much English at all, but don't worry, you will get by and they will try their best to listen to you....

My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Kiyoshigekan! We stayed for one night in a 6 tatami room (which was more than enough room for two people, had very comfortable futons, and had great amenities like a water heater) and ate both dinner and breakfast. I highly recommend the meals for any first time traveler to Japan --...

We stayed one night at this ryokan with a couple of our friends and had an amazing time. The rooms are of course traditional, so anyone whose stayed in a place in Japan where you sleep on futon beds won't be surprised. We didn't try the food so I can't comment on that, but the baths were amazing - you...

I had an amazing Japanese breakfast here. This ryokan also has great indoor and outdoor onsen (hot spring tub). if you're in favor of walking, this ryokan is located around 10 minutes from the station. Make sure you check the map, as it's easy to miss. The room is clean and tidy, with traditional tatami. Great traditional Japanese experience!

We stayed here for two nights in April 2014. We chose the place because of the English website and the cute youtube video. Upon arriving at the hotel we realized that the photos posted on the website were a lot nicer then the actual location itself. We stayed in a standard room with tatami mats. The owner of the hotel...

I stayed here for 1 night on late march. I chose this ryokan because they accept single traveler and has an english booking site. The price is reasonable and the place is about 15 minutes away from the yubatake. Plenty of slopes along the way so please take note when traveling with elderly people. The ryokan was easy to find...

The Japanese and English reviews for this ryokan differ. The Japanese tend to be less impressed than the foreigners, perhaps they have had more experience and expect more for this kind of price. Good points: 1. Excellent food - do NOT miss the evening meal - very traditional charcoal grill on each table and almost too much to eat. 2....
