The hotel itself is wonderful. Sadly the 6th Street area in Austin is overrun by bums, panhandlers, and beggars. Several dozen were readily apparent, and the area no longer feels safe, at least to us. I recommend the hotel highly, but stay off of 6th Street unless you like being

This old classic in the middle of Austin’s scene is the definition of Texas stately elegance. At the junction of 6th a stroll in any direction finds good food and great music. Do not leave without spending time at the longhorn themed bar.

If you would like to step back in time and enjoy the beautiful architecture of a grand hotel, you will not be disappointed. Christmas season is a wonderful time to visit and enjoy the beautifully decorated lobby. Many venues in downtown Austin are close by as well.

We picked The Driskill because of its reputation for being a “traditional and classic” hotel and accepted its daily high rate. The hotel’s interior is classic and traditional, but unfortunately, the atmosphere was far from it. There were numerous parties at various locations wi

is the restaurant casual dressing or more formal?
We were at the bar and people was casual but elegant, not shorts or sandals... kind of like date night - I have to imagine that the restaurant for the hotel would be elegant as well.

How far a walk is it from the Driskill to the restaurants and shops in the South Congress area? Thanks. I want to be able to drop in there and am wondering whether we should book something closer.
SoCo (south congress) is 5 blocks from the Driskill, so not too bad if you don't mind the walk. I stayed about a month ago, walked from Driskill to Zilker Park and back, but did it for exercise and put some miles in that day. 😅

Booked the senate room on top floor.... are the bathrooms nice in these rooms? Looking for a bathtub that you can actually take a nice bubble bath in!
My room had a regular tub/shower combination but I was in a standard room type so as the other reviewer stated, probably best to reach out to your travel agent or directly with the hotel.

"Pick one away from the elevators . . . very noisy otherwise."
"Opt for the historic building or a room with a view!"
"Historic section MAY be noisier than new section. New section is more difficult to reach: elevator to mezzanine, walk to another elevator."
"Rooms on the 6th street corner can be noisy but for me it was fine as I was out until the clubs closed anyway."
"Homes accessed from the Mezzanine are quiet and easily access the bar area and meeting rooms."
